  1. Bristol Russian run adult ballet classes. Unless that's where you already go.......
  2. Oh right, should be results very soon then. Good luck.
  3. Aren't CBA assessments this coming Sunday? I'm sure group 6 is anyway. Results are then around 2 weeks later, although were longer last year.
  4. Dancemom2 my opinion (and only my opinion based on our experiences with RBS) is that a place at SS will not increase her chances of a place at Upper School, neither does being an associate or having any prior connection with the school unless you have been through the lower school. Upper school places are few and far between and selection is based on how applicants perform on the day and at finals. This year at finals there were 30 candidates and only two offered places. SS selection is made on the photo application and also appears fairly random. My DD, (very surprisingly to us as shes definitely been off their radar for years!) made finals for US this year but only got SS off the waiting list. She has been offered places at other top vocational schools this year but others who haven't were selected for SS over her initially. I'd say if you are offered SS grab it if you can for the wonderful experience, but not a deal breaker if you can't make it.
  5. I also cried in the cinema! I have nothing to add to the above except to single out Valentino Zuchetti who I thought was just amazing. Wonderful send off for Zenaida, what a truly beautiful gracious lady who will be much missed.
  6. So if they are inviting yr11's that would indicate they are willing to look at students for US too?
  7. Thank you all, to be honest I shrieked when I saw the email? Really didn't see it happening! Been there worn the t-shirt etc......
  8. Congratulations to your DD Taxi! What lovely news?
  9. We have just received a very exciting email, DD has a place at Covent Garden Summer School from the waiting list! She's not an Associate but did get to Upper School finals this year.
  10. My DD is an associate and is yr11 there are also some yr12 and 13's in group 3.
  11. I'm sure Swindon Dance that are in the Town Hall Studios in Swindon offer adult classes.
  12. I'm afraid I never had today on my list either. Checked my email when I got home too, no 7th May mentioned, sorry
  13. Amazing news! Congratulations to him! Look forward to hearing his final decision x
  14. Have you Googled laundrettes in London? There might be one close to the hotel. I believe Earls Court Premier Inn is walking distance from the school too.
  15. Putney Bridge Premier Inn is a very short walk to the tube, then 2 stops down the District line to Fulham Broadway and about 10 mins walk from there to the school. Theres a Sainsbury's at Fulham Broadway to buy packed lunch on the way and various cafes/restaurants there too. The restaurant at the hotel serves breakfast but it costs extra and you can also eat your evening meal there but it's expensive. Nice walk over the bridge into Putney where there's lots of restaurants but we only did that once last year. The other evenings we bought pasta salads in Sainsbury's or ate in Pret or Pizza Express at the station. None cheap though. No laundry facilities. DD is doing two weeks this year but will come home in between so laundry not an issue for her.
  16. Congratulations to your DS Gollyrox. We gave up my DD's scholarship over Easter so although we will never know for sure, it gives me a warm feeling thinking it could have been awarded to another forum members DC ?
  17. I will send you a personal message, it show you've received it as a notification at the top of this page by the three little white lines of you are on a phone.
  18. The Premier Inn will accept anyone from 16yrs upwards. My DD will be staying there whilst at ENBS summer school. PM me if you'd like more details.
  19. I agree with you Lisa, they both stood out for me too.
  20. Wow! What stunning boys, thank you for sharing. I'm afraid I don't know enough about Vaganova to make any comments on the speed or their physiques, I just think they are amazing to watch.
  21. They usually run one in October half term but also did one right at the beginning of January this year. The February intensive is good as well so I'm told.
  22. I would hope that ALL the dancers chosen for RBS/ENBS finals (along with the other ballet schools) were selected because of their natural dance ability, musicality and stage presence. With the addition of good clean technique and facility. I very much doubt any dancer would make it to finals without those essential attributes. As there are only a small number of places, physical attributes are bound to play a significant part in narrowing down the candidates, along with potential for employment. It would seem that the top classical companies all have a common desire for a certain aesthetic which on the whole includes a lean but strong body, long limbs and good feet (plus others I expect). I'm not sure height (apart from extreme either way) is such a big issue, the RB corps has a large range in heights.
  23. When my DD started to get really serious about ballet (she is an all rounder) I asked both her associate teachers and her private teacher their opinion of her continuing with tap. They all said there was absolutely no reason for her not to continue and no damage would be done to her ankles. The only think they advised against was really heavy tap as she may get shin splints. She gave up her tap associate place and just stuck to ISTD tap.
  24. The ISTD Tap grades are very structured and children (my DD included) can take their first exams from the age of 5/6 years old. They are certainly not just stamping around making a racket. Tap helps enormously with rhythm and musicality and is a lot of fun. That said it can be started later to no detrimental effect, those that start at 8 can catch up quickly. I can't see how any youth (ballet) companies would insist on tap, but I'm sure NYB included a tap number one year in their production. In our experience doing Tap has not had a detrimental effect on the standard of my DD's ballet. She will be taking her Advanced 2 exam at 16 years old this summer before heading off to vocational ballet school in September. She plans to take her tap shoes with her to see if she can catch an open class occasionally.
