Lockdown and General Streaming Thread

Recommended Posts

Are some of the above things still related to Lockdown in some way?
Is it time to change the name or start a new thread for such videos?
Obviously if there is some genuine connection with any of the big lockdowns then probably okay but hopefully we can soon put the word lockdown behind us?

there is a severe lockdown in Hong Kong at the moment.  And anytime Covid pops up in China we know those lockdowns are harsh.

The point I was making is that there are lots of things to watch now if you happen to be in lockdown!
I thought originally videos/ streamings were produced or released from previously in a lockdown because nobody could go to the theatre.
Im just not sure if general videos should really still come under a lockdown thread. If a Company in Hong Kong or China for example should release a video etc as a direct link to them being in lockdown then that’s okay for a lockdown thread but not just any videos or streamings any Company might ordinarily generally release.

What's next for us

COVID-19, how we have been affected, and next steps

Following on from our message earlier this week, we have set up a page on our website dedicated to news and updates concerning English National Ballet activities affected by COVID-19, which will be regularly updated.

I've set up a separate thread to cover what seem to be English National Ballet's ongoing online activities below.  If you know of anything from this thread which is still ongoing and needs to be moved into it, please let me know.

I’m not sure if this is the right thread in which to post this news but here we go!

Very recently, many Russian archival films of a cultural nature have been made available, for free,  on the “Sovetskoye Televidie Gosteleradiofond” YouTube channel. These include many rare treasures of dance/ballet, among them the complete 1970s CREATION OF THE WORLD (aka ADAM AND EVE) by Kasatkina/Vasiliov to Andrei Petrov’s score, danced by Moscow Classical Ballet, starring Maximova & Isaev:

There’s also Vladimir Vasiliev’s MOZART SYMPHONY 40; Lacotte’s NATHALIE (also starring Maximova & Isaev); a rare Bolshoi SLEEPING BEAUTY w/ Semenyaka as Lilac; etc.

Happy hunting in this  performing arts sub-channel (playlist) within Sovetskoye Televidie Gosteleradiofond:

Following-up on the above:

As TODAY (4 April 2022) marks Pierre Lacotte’s 90th birthday anniversary, what better way to celebrate than to watch his ballet reconstructions (informed revivals), such as NATHALIE? In addition to searching through the above list, here’s a direct link to NATHALIE starring Maximova & Isaev:

Can't find it anywhere today. can anyone help, please?

no I cannot find it either.  It seems it truly was “live” only.   So sorry for you.

I’m sure it’ll get uploaded in future.  Someone will have downloaded the whole.  There are plenty of clips about in the meantime.

I had a few quibbles  … Osipova’s shoes were so badly shaped at one point in Act 2 she had to make an obvious hitch in the adagio pdd to get back on top of the platform.  The narrative in Act 1 was ropey.  It felt like they’d mashed together the local version with the RB version.  She was also wearing her RB Act 2 costume which didn’t match the local wilis!

Asides from these it was her usual super performance … all childlike, playful and innocence in Act 1.  Increasing bewilderment to demented wildness before dying.  Tragic care for Albrecht in Act 2.  Super speedy turns and lovely buoyancy in her jumps.

Daniel Camargo has princely stature and lovely lines with a beautiful unflashy technique.  Just right for this role.

It was a treat to be offered this free and to be able to see it halfway around the world without technical problems.

The full length Paquita from Munich is currently on a popular streaming service. This is the revival by Alexei Ratmansky which was dropped by Igor Zelensky because he didn't like it.

The recording quality is not the greatest.

The Paris Opera ballet Paquita is also there in the version by Pierre Lacotte.

Interesting comparison.
