  1. Wikipedia is hosting an editathon at the Royal Opera House on 25 October, with a view to improving the articles on MacMillan and his ballets. Further details can be found here.
  2. Aren't they the footmen from her coach? I assume the kissing is just naïve politeness (it is France, after all).
  3. Graham Spicer (@gramilano on twitter) has an article on the Ashton bill http://www.gramilano.com/2014/10/royal-ballet-celebrate-founding-choreographer-frederick-ashton/ that mentions some casting. Includes Crawford & Pajdak dancing the Brahms waltzes and Hayward debuting as Vera in MitC.
  4. Yes, he now has trousers and I thoroughly dislike them. They bunch around the knee and look out of place, particularly as the soldiers and other male "dancer" roles are in tights.
  5. There's already a full discussion on this here. Further discussion on that thread please.
  6. When I started ballet (in a class full of girls much younger than I was) I wore track suit bottoms and a t-shirt.
  7. Lamb's Manon (with Pennefather) is one of the finest, most emotional and moving things I've seen on the ROH stage.
  8. Exclusive? Well, if you mean open to ROH ticket-holders only, then yes. Very expensive? Not really, there's certainly more expensive places about. Out-of-bounds? That's balderdash, except when there's a special event (e.g. a first night reception). Anyone can go in and you'll often see a table-full of ballet regulars in there.
  9. How many companies put on a performance every night (except when on tour)? (In RB) if there is a performance, there is also a 60/90 minute break at dinner time.
  10. The Vienna State Opera Ballet began a separate company, The Vienna State Ballet in 2010.
  11. Men have to wear ties at The Ritz. The story about The Queen's Table is balderdash.
  12. Let's not make suppositions or judgements. We don't know what has happened.
  13. Just had an email from ROH advising that the casts for two performances of Month in the Country are switched, so it's now: 5 November: Bonelli/Osipova 12 November: Pennefather/Yanowsky
  14. We've had afternoon tea in the Fortnums' tea salon twice and it's lovely. Sandwiches, cakes and scones replenished on request, which I doubt will be the case at ROH. And a stunning tea list.
  15. I once competed in a ballroom dancing competition that was held in a shopping centre (in Hatfield).
  16. Scottish Ballet took that name in 1974. ENB name change was, as Janet said, in 1989.
  17. That's interesting. However, the official line is that the name was changed to reflect that the company had become a significant touring company.
  18. https://uk-offers.timeout.com/deals/entertainment-push?cid=TOL%7CDD%7CEM%7C_CTA%7Centertainment-push%7C2014-07-18T17:37:34
  19. Well, there is a significant number of standing tickets held back for students, so it's not just Friends booking them all.
  20. That's because they are in the process of updating the systems on which the database is founded so some of the more recent works are not yet on there.
