  1. I believe Mendizabal is on her way back from injury, but not quite ready for Manon.
  2. Cassandra, in the Linbury, details in above link, was included in the Period 1 Autumn booking, still a few tickets left, and the insight, on 9th September, became available as part of public booking for Delloite Ignite events. I'm looking forward to it even more now the full cast is announced.
  3. Of recent jesters, I felt Fernando Montano incorporated pathos into his interpretation.
  4. A wonderful evening. Many times I found myself holding my breath. As others have said above, If you can get there, GO!
  5. Lovely photos. A bit concerned that it looks as if Miss Cope is pushing the Eifel Tower over while Robert Fairchild is attempting to stop her!
  6. I suspect Carlos, and many other ballet dancers, would be able to side step / spin round many a bewildered rugby player
  7. Yes, they've been there a while, and yes, they're good. Is THAT why the Royal Opera is performing at The Round House next January? And, daisydance, there's a coffee shop in my high street (called 'The Dessert Lounge") that sells the Minghella ices.
  8. Perhaps ROH missed a trick here? At the Saturday matinee they could have provided a special afternoon tea for young ones for whom Sweet Violets was not suitable, but who would enjoy Serenade and DGV (and the tea).
  9. I think I can remember occasions, yes. And notices "politely asking audience members to refrain from smoking". And with many of the theatres, with bars/lobbies opening directly off the auditorium, the smoke would drift in from those. How I rejoiced when I could at last go to a theatre or cinema without fearing an allergic reaction to the tobacco smoke.
  10. Just as well, then, that you have your camera on a tripod, or some photos might be a bit blurry! (I looked to see if there was a 'sighing' smiley)
  11. My condolences to Emma and her family. From the reports, Anne Maguire was a true and wonderful teacher, a great loss to her family and her school and its pupils past and present.
  12. Bus RV1 from London Bridge Stn to within 1 minute walk of ROH, or enjoy a river bus to Embankment pier. Bus 15 from Monument, I think, to Royal Courts of Justice.
  13. Yes, I know Faust is actually the opera currently in the Royal Opera schedule, but who had the brilliant idea of casting the Royal Ballet's Eric Underwood as the "Male Principal Dancer"(that's how he's described in the castsheet)? He's having a ball, albeit one masterminded by that demonic begowned Bryn Terfel. A friend in the chorus said she thinks Eric is a fabulous dancer, they are enjoying having him in their production. Both his dancing and characterisation are good. And unlike his colleagues in the Royal Ballet's Winter's Tale, when Eric turns his "pregnant" ballerina upside down she screams. I hope Mr Underwood is not enjoying himself too much - we don't want to lose him permanently to the opera.
  14. The only time I've asked to switch seats was when I later bought an extra ticket for my granddaughter, who I hadn't known would be visiting when I did the original booking. I initially sent my granddaughter to the better seat, and then when the person came to sit by me asked her if she'd like to exchange with my granddaughter. So the person I asked to switch ended up, very happily, in a better (and more expensive) seat, and my granddaughter was happier sitting with me.
  15. Anyone see the new Minister of Culture at the wonderful World Premiere on 10th April of a Shakespeare inspired ballet by a British choreographer danced by a world leading British Ballet Company? (Thought I'd put this here rather than The Winter's Tale thread)
  16. Agree with Jane S, liked Acts 1 and 3 more than Act 2. It takes all sorts. But generally, an excellent evening. Looking forward to more of it.
  17. When Wheeldon talked to the Ballet Association he said Autolycus was not in it, but some aspects of him were included in the shepherd'a son, Clown.
  18. "I thought that was strange too, Margaret, but I think it just means 'red button' " I know it does, but my mind jumps to the wish! Or open it up to BBC ROH? Mmmm!
  19. When I see "BBC RB 301" I think Hoorah, the Royal Ballet has its own BBC channel. What more treats will we get on it! Or does that 'RB' mean something else?
  20. I believe the 'finger pointing' fairy choreography was in reference to electric sparks, the dance having been created at the time the theatre was first lit by electricity. And it was a joy to see James Hay as Florestan.
  21. And in recent years we have had new full evening works in the Linbury, the Kafka/Pitta Metamorphosis, garnering much praise and awards particularly for Ed Watson, and now on DVD, and then Liam Scarlett's Hansel and Gretel. (And most of the Insights and such events are now in the smaller, seating-wise, Clore because the Linbury is in use by visiting companies.)
  22. And note, also, The Wind in the Willows at the Duchess Theatre (family entertainment), which began life at the ROH Linbury with RB dancers.
