  1. And I noted the Prince had his cloak left at the side in the vision scene so he could put it back on for the journey. Could do something similar with the current production and the Prince's red coat, perhaps?
  2. Driven potty queuing for the loo? Hmmm! Those two doors used to be marked entrance and exit, and one queue outside splitting to two inside, depending on availability. seems a fair way to me. And it's better than the slow queue that went all the way round the stalls circle, or all the way down the stairs, for the meagre supply in the old house.
  3. I had the good fortune to visit the Props Department when they were making this SB carriage. It has that large section at the back because inside is a mobility scooter driven by, I think, a stage manager (unless it's changed since the original). They had also finished making the cradle, and it was there complete with baby doll who'd been given a bottle by one of the staff (and it wasn't a milk bottle!). Anyone noticed that the adult bed has similarities to the cradle?
  4. Oh dear, I was hoping we might see Nehemiah Kish back soon. My best wishes to him.
  5. Looking at that photo, it would appear dance is a man's world! (Not said too seriously)
  6. This discussion of whether Giselle killed herself, and a possible version where Hilarion is still alive at the end, set me thinking:- A new, 3 act version of Giselle. In Act 1, same as RB to begin with, but when Giselle goes mad it's mad with anger and she kills Loys/Albrecht. Act 2, trial scene, Giselle tried for murder, found guilty, and executed (poison? hanging? off stage?) and so buried in unconsecrated ground. So to Act 3, except it's Hilarion Giselle's spirit realises she loved all along and she saves him (Gives Hilarion some more good dancing to do!) (May be this should be moved to a new thread?)
  7. I've pm'd you. Main ones were Drosselmeyer Marriott, Clara Westcombe, Hans-Peter Kay, Sugar Plum Takada, Her Prince Hristov, Rose Fairy Stix-Brunell
  8. I did see her in it, tho' my first Aurora was Svetlana Beriosova. With both of them, no high extensions or excessive balances, and impeccable manners towards and sweet smiles for each of the suitors in the Rose Adage.
  9. Radio Times says "objects include porcelain figures made by Anna Pavlova"
  10. I wanted to read the FT Tony Hall-BBC article listed in the links, but the FT site insisted I register to see that item, even for the 8 free a month, giving them my email address, which I have no wish or intention of doing. Anyone know if one can see a small number of items without registering?
  11. As long as he doesn't get tempted to try and shoot the nutcracker so that he can save the day by stepping into the part himself! (And best wishes to his soldiering)
  12. And in the evening performance Sarah Lamb was with Steven, and gave American pzazz to the role, plus Zenaida Yanowski excellently suited to the other Rubies role. Laura Morera was beautiful, and soft-footed, in Emeralds, while Marianela and Thiago showed that Diamonds are not just a girl's best friend (thanks mijosh for that comment)
  13. Pharoh's Daughter? I seem to remember some sort of descent into somewhere in that, although can't remember any boiling water!
  14. A well deserved Grand Tier Christmas treat, considering all the pleasure you give us with your photos.
  15. And, apart from his minor difficulty in reassembling the nutcracker (at least he didn't do what Marriot did once!), Bennet Gartside was, I thought, a very good Drosselmeyer indeed.
  16. And assume it'll be first cast for the cinema relay evening 28th April.
  17. Four Tybalts in this run, Bennet Gartside, Eric Underwood, Tom Whitehead, Gary Avis, and, as you say, all good with different interpretations.
  18. I see, announced on the ROH site, that Luca Acri is taking over from Ondiviela in the role of Hansel on 25 Jan evening and 28th, and the 24th, 25th mat and 27th witch, the 'tbc' is now Alexander Campbell (in the original performances this was Brian Maloney) Best wishes to both of them for their new roles.
  19. Trying to think of ballets with place names. Asphodel Meadows? That one possibly is set where it says. Flower Festival in Genzano? Hmm, don't exactly know where that one's set.
  20. Don Quixote (both Basil and Kitri who, in the latest RB version anyway, 'borrowed' Basil's guitar) And do Kitri's castanets count? And Sylvia, if those little bells in Act 2 count as a musical instrument.
  21. Yes, I was thinking of Giselle, and said at least three because it might be five, two occasions when it might be leafy sprigs rather than flowers. (And apologies for late response, but I hope for the best of reasons, I was out all day yesterday at two performances of the Royal Ballet's R and J)
