  1. I am not condoning the practice of RBS in making offers to competition winners but remember that they don’t all accept and are not eligible for the government funded places. There are places funded by private donors. I do agree that training in the UK needs to match the standard of those received overseas however it is often a very different system in terms of academic and dance training and some competition winners are not always technically the best dancers, or so DD tells me.
  2. DD just wore non-dance brand t-shirts, joggers, leggings and hoodies and has never felt out of place. Take her warm-up boots and she will have the t-shirt. A new leotard and skirt is nice for a well done on getting in present but I wouldn’t go all out with new kit. Hope she has a lovely time.
  3. Congratulations to all getting a place. We would have loved to apply but had already booked and paid for another summer school before this was advertised. Look forward to see how NYB goes forward after this summer.
  4. Those on the 2020 waitlist were made offers but I haven’t heard of any waitlisted from the current applications. We know of two very happy dancers who have places so hope your DC’s friend was also offered a place.
  5. I give my DD an allowance and if she was using it to fund a smoking habit I would not continue - she is aware of this. We can't afford for her to smoke never mind it being unhealthy.
  6. I read here last year of some very late finals offers so I am sure they do review and consider all applications. DD's friend was a last minute application a few years back and was offered a finals audition and wait list for scholarship. Just unfortunate that there was no call with an offer.
  7. Elmhurst does assess out but not in the same way as WL. They have a clearer assessment and improvement system where you have a series of "warnings". Tring also only guarantee funded places for a year at the time so effectively assess out also.
  8. Current WL pupils were told yesterday if they have places for next year: in the case of Year 9s it will be a place for Year 10 and 11 and for those in Year 11 it will be a final audition for Upper School. Those in lower years will be "helped" (not sure how officially)if they wish to get finals auditions at other schools and those going to Upper School will have been applying elsewhere anyway. Not all choose to stay and will have planned to leave at the end of the year from all year groups. Some decide to leave the school before the end of the summer term but most appear to stay on and finish the year. We know personally of those who have decided the school wasn't for them and had planned to audition elsewhere, those who have been assessed out and found places elsewhere and those who have decided dance is not for them and left. The same will happen at all vocational schools.
  9. Thank you so much - this maybe a better match than Elmhurst - we will definitely pass this on.
  10. Thank you - saw this posted and past it on.
  11. Thank you - this makes sense. She just doesn't know what to do this year now.
  12. It is the FdA Professional Dance Performance where she planned to do a classical ballet pathway and then do a third year on the BA (Hons) Professional Performance (top-up). She chose this over two other offers. DD can't get out of her exactly what happened so I have come here to see if anyone knows anything happening at LSC. DD is just finding it difficult to support her and I didn't know what to suggest.
  13. Does anyone know what is happening with London Studio Centre? DD is consoling her friend who has said they received an e-mail to say her course now won't run.
  14. Yes there don't ever appear to be as many boys in MAs - lower as a percentage of the total than the JAs or SAs. There have been a few boys at other centres in the past as noted by @coniger, also Newcastle from memory. I would just ask them.
  15. I have already seen one course charging the same for their on-line offering.
  16. You have possibly looked at this site but incase you haven't seen it. http://educational-grants.org/
  17. Can anyone tell me the time of Royal SA1 boys classes in both Birmingham and London? Thank you.
  18. From reading their funding policies in the past I thought that MDS was only offered to lower school although some current pupils were able to take this into 6th Form. An MDS for 6th Form would surely be financially better than a DaDA. Is this a revision of the policy? They also gave a top, middle or bottom ranking although in reality I don't support many will get waitlist places and DC need to make other plans.
  19. In this case they will most likely be self-employed. The venue may already have been paid so their terms will have to be taken into account by the organiser which I appreciate is their issue rather than the participants. My feeling is that refunds should be made if the alternative offering is not suitable. At the very least e-mails should be not be going ignored. I know quite a few people who have been unable to get refunds on travel and hotels for recent dance events that were cancelled although some have been offered credit notes. For a non-dance related event despite paying in full in advance for a good deal, and the hotel still open at the point we cancelled, we received a full refund on cancellation without our asking.
  20. I had an e-mail yesterday about the cancellation of events at Southbank and today one specifically relating to Emerging Dancer giving the new date. They will move all tickets to a new date, 22nd September, and if you are unable to make it you can get a credit voucher valid for two years or a refund. The deadline for the latter two options is 6th June.
  21. As of now, according to their social media, they are going ahead.
  22. Did they not ask those attending to respond with regards to travel plans? They will have made this decision off the back of this and other advice. Other Easter intensives may now follow their example.
  23. Sorry, I need to take back my optimism!
  24. The closing date for the GM role was end of February so time yet for interviews and any appointment to be announced. I can’t see them running any of the proposed masterclasses and workshops until later in the year at this rate.
