  1. TooTu and Mae989, it's the end of term this Friday so I would expect you'll hear by then, if not before. They've certainly had junior results out before the Easter break in the previous two years and I think they're still going through audition results as Upper School auditions were early last week...
  2. I don't know anything about YDA except that the training is good as evidenced by students getting offers in later years at Elmhurst and White Lodge. Which begs the question why students still hanker after getting into one of these two schools even after starting at YDA in Year 7? That said, each vocational school out there has it's own merits and demerits and there isn't a one size fits all. My own DD has settled in really well at Elmhurst and absolutely loves it. She had always wanted WL but came away from finals last year saying she didn't want to go there after all, not 100% sure what happened during the day but she had felt more relaxed at prelims, finals and summer school at Elmhurst, all of which must have helped. But I also know of several DC who didn't get on at Elmhurst, some of whom found the reality of dancing every day not what they actually wanted, others preferred to go to a school like YDA where they could still go home every night as boarding and homesickness was the issue for them. Sorry Noobag as not sure my thoughts will help you at all. Huge congrats to your DD for having two offers and huge commiserations to you now as making the decision which school will be agonising. Good luck with it and whatever decision you make, enjoy it!
  3. CMA, my DD has been asking me this too! Anyone??
  4. The results come out before all existing MAs have their assessment. I think this is one of the reasons why there is a lot of movement on the short waiting lists in June/July. They go on what they know now with places (Y9s leaving etc) for the offers.
  5. Excellent news Happymum, so so so happy for you and your DS. I know my DD will be thrilled when I tell her, as will your DD too!! Hope there's lots more happy news to come from all others waiting for their post...
  6. As far as WL & Elmhurst are concerned, it's actual places/beds as opposed to number of MDS Awards available. That said, most if not all who are eligible get them I think. I don't know about Tring or Hammond.
  7. My DD is in Y8 at Elmhurst and is just one of 12 girls in the year group. And from memory, there are only 12 girls in the current Y7 year group too. Current Y9 is 14 girls (had been 15). Think the max they take in a year group is 15 girls but yes, this does alter year from year and they don't always fill the spaces as depends what numbers they already have in other year groups. So as Happymum said, think along the lines of 12 normally, as with WL. Sorry to be a bit pedantic...
  8. I think it's new this year as the last 2 years the only discussion my DD had was a couple of brief questions from the Physio along the lines of where else she'd auditioned and how long she'd been dancing. But doubt it's anything too onerous, it's a lovely friendly school and she loved both finals she attended there. Good luck to your DC next week
  9. Happymum I agree with Piccolo! Do hope all went well for your DS and looking forward to hearing all about it. Am now going up to the school tomorrow so see there perhaps?? DD was upset when I originally said I wouldn't go so anything for an easy life!
  10. Oh no Happymum!! Hope the bruising calms down but know if won't affect your lovely DS' dancing. All the best to him for this week, I will be thinking of you and all the others DC at Tring and Elmhurst this week (I'm assuming Elmhurst finals are also this week?).
  11. Lena, my DD felt the same last year at Finals and so the No was easy to accept. Less so the No from Elmhurst last year but as you know, she picked herself up, kept trying hard and got her Elmhurst place part way through the Autumn term for Y8 following summer school. She loves it where she is too which is a relief but now worrying about her assessment next term. So it doesn't stop but this year off the audition trail has been nice for my nerves but still stalking the forum as love knowing how everyone else is getting on. Commiserations for the not gets and congrats for the yes's. x
  12. Depending on where your friend is - we were recommended a school in Swindon where my elder DD did privates last summer and half of the autumn term before going to vocational school (we live between Oxford & Swindon). My younger DD now goes to the school in Swindon too. If sounds possible send me a PM and I can give more details.
  13. I really struggle to find blonde hairnets - Boots only ever has black or brown hairnets although they do stock blonde bun nets which I find too small for my girls. How I wish at these times they were both brunettes like me instead of blondes like their dad!
  14. Last year it was after the finals so would think the same this year
  15. Bluebird, my DD was one who was offered a Y8 place in October at Elmhurst although she had reach finals for Y7 and Y8 for Elmhurst and Y8 for WL. She did Elmhurst summer schools in 2015 and 2016 and yes, you are quite correct, her full-time place offer came from finals and their assessment of her during the last summer school. When in Y6, she was devastated by the No's but picked herself up. She was SWL for MAs and then got offered a Y7 MA place once the dust began to settle after all the movements at the various schools following full-time offers. She really made the most of her time at MAs and last year's audition we only did as practice so she was super relaxed in them, particularly the WL one. Ladies, it really is possible for your DC to get there, albeit maybe not in the way you initially hoped for, if they are determined enough. My DD says now she's glad she had to work harder for it as the No's made her really think about what she wanted and how to go about getting there - she thinks a Yes the first year would have made her a bit complacent and possibly not work as hard. But we will never know if that would have been the case. All these DC who audition are amazing as it is stressful and they do continue to amaze me how they do pick themselves up and keep going. Good luck to all the Yes's and please don't give up if it wasn't the result you hoped for.
  16. I've done a mixture. When my DD auditoned for JAs 3 years ago we did the pictures with her teacher. The following year for WL and MAs I did at home and then last year I did some in our garden and some with her MAs teacher. This year I did them with her new teacher but we then didn't use them as unexpectedly came off the audition trail. They use them more as a reminder for JAs whereas the summer school's selection is made from the photos. Good luck with it all
  17. My daughter auditioned 3.5 years ago when she had just taken her Grade 1 exam and, on that occasion, was unsuccessful. She auditioned again last summer and was one of the children pulled out for the scholarship bit but didn't get one as she stopped 'performing' and showed off her technique instead - so important for EYB to perform at all times! She was given two lovely duet roles though in The Sleeping Beauty Oxford performance and absolutely loved it. She's now at vocational school so doubt she'll be able to audition again but she said it really helped cement her ambitions and she is so happy to (a) to have the opportunity to perform with them and ( that the next step on her way to her dream was achieved 2 days after her final performances. When she auditioned the first time round, she did find it qutie daunting as had never auditioned for anything before but that also ended up being a positive experience as she used it to help her for her audition the following year for RBS JAs and everything else that has come her way since then. Like so many, she didn't really know many people when she started EYB, particularly as the few she did know were all doing different groups to her but she still made new friends.
  18. Last year Yr8 was definitely 2 weeks from the audition so wonder why the delay this year?
  19. It was 6 girls in total so there were 5 disappointed girls but one of those 5 is now at Elmhurst. I don't know ref the boys as my DD was one of the 6 Y8 girls last year up at WL for Final days. I think there may be as many as 3 Y9 girls places possibly available at Elmhurst for this coming September but I also know they don't always fill the spaces if they don't see exactly what it is they're looking for.
  20. Not sure yet Happymum - need to sort things out this weekend if poss when DD is home!
  21. Last year I got the email from the Bath auditions at approx 5:30pm when out at a friend's who had just asked me when were the results in. I checked my phone to find it has just arrived and then had to get her to read the email as I couldn't believe what I was reading - my DD had been called back for finals, totally unexpected as she only did the audition for practice, already being an MA. So still lots of time left before they may start coming out...
  22. Certainly think there will be at least two Yr 9 places for Bath as my daughter gave her place up at the end of October when she moved to vocational school and one of the other girls is moving back to Japan with her family at the end of March. No-one was assessed out last year in Bath although assessments aren't until May in Bath, earlier in London. So don't despair, spaces do come up.
  23. Don't be despondent, all the schools look for different things and I too know of DC who got yes from RBS but no from the others. It also depends on how they dance on the day too and this no might make your DC more determined. And no is often a 'not this time'.
  24. Going back far more years than I care to own up to, we used wear satin shoes with ribbons for our RAD exams. We were expected to have a new pair for each exam which we then wore for class until they either fell apart or we'd grown out of them. No leather or canvas shoes allowed by the school but I know that was the school's preference.
