  1. Really enjoying all these reviews. Sadly I had a ticket for 1 November but was too ill to go (awful virus). I do have tickets for Friday 16 though so am looking forward to that, trains etc permitting. I haven't seen the RB Baydere since Bussell danced Nikyia! By the way there are tube strikes tomorrow and Thursday on some lines if anyone is travelling.
  2. Does anyone know when casting for symphony in C will be announced? I would rather know before booking.
  3. Thanks RobS for your great photos - did you get one of Hirano? vanartus I agree with all that you have said. After reading the reviews I contemplated not going last night. So glad I did now. I was v close to the stage and it made such a difference to see close up the expressions of the dancers. Plus as my expectations were not so high as they might have been if Watson had been dancing they were in fact exceeded. Terrific performances from all and full of energy. Osipova could have been Salome in the pdd at the end of Act 2. Rudolf never stood a chance! I agree this ballet is tragic with no redemption or hope and that makes it difficult to watch at times and for me uncomfortable, especially the pdd with Stephanie. by the way I can confirm that the stalls circle seats were removed yesterday, I assume to allow the sound to travel up. Thanks to to all posters for their knowledgable and insightful posts, as ever.
  4. Thanks to the balletcoer who posted the info about the Barbican cinema rerun. Managed to get to the screening and thoroughly enjoyed it. Act 2 made me think of Raymonda and Act 3 of My Fair Lady. It was only £10.50 for the ticket too- a bargain!
  5. Best wishes to Hirano, Osipova and tonight's cast. Hope all the balletcoers have a great night too.
  6. Oh dear, is this the ROHs "Ratner" moment. This has really spoilt the start of the new season for me, and it was already a disappointment to see the announcement of Mr Watson's continued absence. The ROH does not seem to recognise that there are many other attractions competing for my time and money. I don't have limitless amounts of either! With concern about the impact of Brexit, many people will be carefully considering how they spend their money over the next year in particular. They may decide to reduce spend on culture. Perhaps ROH is relying too heavily on the loyalty of the audience for the company and the artists.
  7. I wish I could have seen this - I love the music and it seems that it was an enjoyable performance.
  8. Did anyone see this live or watch it on BBC 4 last weekend? My other half spoilt it by telling me in advance who had one! However, I guessed second and third positions. Terrific performances from all.
  9. Went to visit yesterday and it's very impressive. I didn't stop long enough to see the cafe prices. The terrace is lovely.
  10. What fun last night (and I was in sorely in need of it). This was a new programme for me and I thought it was terrific. I haven't seen a serious version of Les Sylphides for so long and I am now wondering why. I would love to see the full Raymonda too. I must admit I thought of a certain bolshoi ballerina. It was a very appreciative audience.
  11. Spartacus is not my favourite but if Lobukhin was dancing I could be persuaded to buy a ticket!
  12. I agree with you jmhopton. I think the 2010 season was the best that I have ever seen, with Giselle, Paquita etc. Like you I am looking forward to seeing new dancers - I hope Obraztsova. I might even see Spatacus if it has the right cast! However, last summer even the mariinsky tickets for the triple bill struggled a bit. As usual Swan Lake was the banker.
  13. Just seen the photos in the Evening Standard - wow it looks fabulous. I can't wAit to visit on Friday. I hope it feels more welcoming to people, like the Southbank. Thanks to all the donors.
  14. I think if I recall correctly, That every performance of Bolshoi's bayadere that I have seen in London has had the children with 'blackface'. It doesn't seem that it has changed.
  15. I saw Asylmuratova dance Juliet in London towards the end of her career - unforgettable. Age is not necessarily a bar on an artist performing this role in my view ulanova wasn't a teenager when the bolshoi performed the Lavrovsky R and J for the first time in London either I believe
  16. Having been denied the opportunity to see Hallberg and Osipova's Giselle I would love to see them in R and J. However, I thought I saw a Facebook post mentioning Muntagirov but that could be speculation.
  17. To the RB I assume? I am disappointed that the rep seems a bit repetitive but i am looking forward to seeing Bright Stream and Shrew (which I missed last time) and of course Bayadere. 32 shades and 4 ramps! Depending on casting I could be tempted to see more but doubt I will be able to afford it if prices are similar to the last Mariinsky season!
  18. First thanks to Bruce and Floss for sharing their expert knowledge on Tudor and Ashton. I think it is very sad that the uk art form is missing out on these pieces. I hope that they won't be lost. Unlike many others who have posted i really enjoyed Six Years Later and I think the second part to The Marmalade would make a great YouTube clip. i think my approach to these events is similar to BMC, I don't expect to like everything but hope the balance may be more positive than negative. I apply the same approach to triple bills and there is usually at least one piece that I don't enjoy (last season Obsidian Tear).
  19. It is a loss to the art form that we don't have a regularly performed full length Ratmansky here in the uk. i would also be very delighted to see the full length Tudor - The Leaves are Fading.
  20. Oh I loved the Assaf piece - and it seemed very popular up in the second balcony. The only piece I didn't like was the Perez piece and I thought the "music" was awful. I just couldn't connect with that at all. I hope that Osipova continues to develop these new works as I think that they are getting better each time. Some from the past that I liked were Pita's Facada and the Malliphant. Whatever our views I expect that Osipova will continue to develop them as long as she can finance them and there is an audience.
  21. I agree mummykool. I was surprised (in a good way) and moved by these pieces. Agree about the Ratmansky. Also it was great to see David Hallberg in fine form. The audience tonight wanted a further curtain call but this was denied, sadly
  22. Some returns for Baydere have gone up on the website if anyone is still looking for Nunez/Osipova and vice versa.
  23. Best wishes Lisa in your new job. Hope it all works out for your son too.
