  1. I think that state of mind is called “flow” Maryrose.
  2. Sadly not in this run- there was some comment about that earlier I think. I hope to catch tonight’s performance at the cinema.
  3. My goodness just seen a small photograph in the Evening standard - yes very like project Polunin minus the Swarovski crystals. If I had attended I am not sure that I would have been able to keep a straight face.
  4. very glad I got to see him on 20 November. That’s the issue re dancers - you have to catch their dancing while you can.
  5. Thanks for the report. I would have gone but for the rail strikes which has prevented me booking for a number of shows, annoyingly.
  6. This morning the death of conductor Mariss Jansons was announced. Very sad news. I remember his Vienna New Year concerts
  7. thanks for the reports. I do love this ballet but have not seen this production- I have seen BRBs - is it the same? at the moment I have a ticket to see Morera
  8. Hope the incident at London Bridge hasn’t affected anyone. Sounds like disruption continues today. SWR strike starts Monday - special timetables are in place for some lines. However, I expect overcrowding and also late services have been dropped. Anyone going to lengthy performances may need to check trains.
  9. I have the bbc music Guide for Tchaikovsky ballet music , by John Warrack. it was published in 1979 and is very interesting to read. I have found the section on SB helpful
  10. I checked my records for the previous performance of SB that I saw with Osipova and Hirano and it was March 2017. My view is that Act 1 was better in 2017, act 2 better this year, act 3 better then. Ms Osipova has, by moving to the RB, developed as an artist in a way that would not have been open to her had she remained in Russia. I hope that she continues to do so.
  11. 9 That’s very true. There were some nasty comments on the Raymonda clip on the ROH Facebook page. No other RB dancer seems to generate such nasty comments. I wonder if it is because Osipova is Russian, from the Bolshoi. with respect JNCs comment above - I had every reason to know that Osipova can dance the choreography of both Swan Lake and Beauty as I have already seen her perform both at the RB previously. I had made considerable changes to my personal and work diaries to attend this week and I would have been very disappointed if the casting had been changed. Indeed, I recall the angst when she was injured and couldn’t perform SB and Giselle. People would have booked months in advance and may have traveled from overseas to see Osipova and Hallberg this week. Where I was sitting there were quite a few Americans, for example.
  12. Gosh that had to one of the most toxic reviews I have ever read. Did mr monahan drink a pint of bile before writing it? I was there and I had bins and didn’t see the same things at all.
  13. I was predisposed to enjoy last night’s performance, after a long day at work and I did. Helped by good seats, orchestral plying of Tchaikovsky’s great score and of course the dancers. Magri was a gracious and warm lilac fairy, the fairies and fairytale characters charming. Sparkling bluebird and florine from Acri and Choe. Act 1 - agree that Osipova did seem to ‘flutter’ her hands each time in the balances. I assume she chose to do that but will be interested to know if she repeats that in her next performance. I am not sure she ran out of steam as such but she did finish ahead of the music. Act 2 - the vision scene was just beautiful with Osipova and Hallberg. I think it was Hallberg’s best performance at the RB that I have seen. This clearly suits his style. Act 3 - a majestic and highly satisfying conclusion.
  14. How interesting to read the views about SB the ballet. It is one I have always loved, some productions more than others. But it has wonderful music, costumes etc. With all the casts to savour it should be a great run an£ of course special to the RB. in contrast it has taken me years to come to love Giselle.
  15. Enjoyed the encore performance very much. The second movement was so moving. A second viewing helped me appreciate the Enigma more. Raymonda fabulous again.
  16. For those who use SouthWestern Railways be aware that there may be strikes throughout December.
  17. Interesting post Helen. I too am disappointed that Osipova is not dancing Swanilda. I well recall her Bolshoi performance, albeit I only saw it in the cinema. I wonder if she didn’t want to dance it.
