    YBSS 2014

I'm jealous too Oldermum but also looking forward to next week ... see you there!
  3. Yes we saw it and really enjoyed following the fortunes of the pupils .... was great to see inside the school and interesting that the Company operated a bit like RB in that they select their new members (corps I presume) from the school. What struck us was how confident and articulate the pupils were.
  4. We saw ENBS on the Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it - the standard was high and each year group contributed to a very polished and professional performance. Both schools have their merits and attract many applicants .Who is to say if one is better than the other - all their graduates are highly trained and talented.
  5. Are you talking about the end of year performance Rede or the summer school?
  6. Hi tutu anna, welcome to the forum .... wow quite glad that we are not living in Japan ... the training sounds brutal! Good luck to your DD
  7. Thinking of you today Regattah and hoping that all goes well.
  8. I went to watch the presentation class at the end of the first week. My goodness that have been working hard and put on a wonderful display for us. Lots of talented DS and DD. I am always amazed at how much they cover and remember in 5 days!!

    Ballet Tights

Hi Jane - I will be ecstatic if 6 - 8 pairs will cover a year ... not sure what my DD does to hers!!
  10. As DD is starting at vocational school I'm looking to reduce costs where I can. I'm looking at various options on purchasing tights in bulk and am wondering if any balletco parents want to join me. I'm going to stick my neck out and say minimum order will be 10 pairs. If you have an interest please send me a PM and let me know stating whether your DDs want a particular brand or are happy with generic convertible tights. I will not be looking to make a profit - tights will be at cost plus postage if I get enough interest and can secure a decent discount for us all. It might not work but I won't know unless I try ...
  11. I think that you are correct T4B, but RAD is a worldwide syllabus and therefore open to all,British or otherwise. YBDY is/was a competition that was accessible to all British DC without the cost involved in competing in the "International" events and offering a very different alternative to the Festivals that are the mainstay of the British dancing landscape.

    YBSS 2014

Hi all, wondering if anyone is travelling from Kings Cross on Saturday morning (19th)
  13. I think, that while it has been hosted by RBS and most candidates are from the school, it is not in fact an RBS competition but open to all British Dancers (or anyone who has trained for 3 years in the UK). I feel that it is a shame that the platform will be withdrawn - there are other competitions open to all ie Genee,,Prix de Lausanne which will perhaps not be as accessible to the average young British dancer. YBDY was created through the vision of Gailene Stock with the support of Ricki Gail Conway. I am sad that as a legacy to Gailene it will not continue, but I am sure that the planned evening will be fantastic - tickets will be like gold dust ,I'm sure.
  14. Why don't you contact RAD and ask them? nothing ventured nothing gained ... good luck.
  15. I think this year is incredibly strong, they really are exceptional dancers - wishing them all the best at Upper School and beyond.
  16. Hi Drdance for a day course I look to not spend more than £90 to include travel and food (packed lunch). I think that the courses spread over a week are usually better value for money but I do see that your costs are high. It really is a juggling act for all - I hope that it won't offend, but my suggestion( and budget) would be a £75 fee for the day, with travel and food costs on top. edited to add this will still be a +100 day but does sound very special
  17. Lots of luck to both of your daughters DT and well done you for letting them follow their dreams - I hope that both of their futures are bright.
  18. I spotted this today - scholarships are available and auditions are being held in London in July - it might interest some of your DC The Atlantic City Ballet is holding open auditions for their International Trainee & Apprentice program. The program is open to male and female student dancers ages 17-20. Sunday June 29, 2014 at 2:00pm Atlantic City Ballet Studio Boardwalk Hall 2301 Boardwalk Atlantic City, NJ 08401 Registration deadline: Friday June 27, 2014 Sunday July 27, 2014 at 2:00pm The Ailey Studios 405 West 55th Street (at 9th Avenue) New York City, NY Registration deadline: Friday July 25, 2014 London, England: First week in July. Please contact our office for place, date and time. All dancers must pre-register by emailing apieroni@acballet.org by deadline above. Auditions will be in the form of a class. No preparation is needed. Women should be prepared to go en pointe. Please bring CV, dance photo and $25.00 audition fee. Scholarships and student visas are available. The Atlantic City Ballet's International Trainee and Apprentice Program (ITAP) is a 2 year tuition-based program which is the training ground for all future AC Ballet company members. For those students who are also interested in continuing their academic education, ITAP offers one-on-one academic mentoring and the ability to take classes either online or at Richard Stockton College which is minutes away. Trainees will also have the opportunity to perform in AC Ballet's many outreach programs and will be part of Atlantic City Ballet's corps de ballet. The 2014-15 program is limited to 20 spots. Please visit www.acballet.org and click education to find out more detailed information about the program.
  19. I believe that at the major ballet schools they will always take those that they find the most talented regardless of their ability to pay - there are very generous supporters of their scholarship funds and they do actively raise money for scholarships. These definitely will only go to the most talented applicants and presumably those that the schools feel will be most likely to succeed professionally. Back to the original question .... I think probably yes
  20. Jaylou62 - Good luck to your DD at RCS - Kerry Livingstone and her team are incredibly welcoming and the facilities fantastic - hoping that she has a lovely day
  21. Hi Chloeballet13 - my advise will be to supplement your regular lessons where you can, remembering that as you progress through years 10 and 11 your academic work becomes more demanding as well. It really does become something of a juggling act,but saying that, non vocationally schooled children are able to gain places for post 16 vocational places. Are you dancing as an Associate? There are many weekend schemes that you can apply for and if you haven't already done so,apply for a serious summer school - definitely for next year if not this. You could also consider applying to Vocational schools for year 10/11 - whilst your chances of success will be slim (hardly any places) the audition experience will be invaluable when it comes to auditioning for Upper Schools. Wishing you lots of luck!!
  22. Just completed our forms and it was tax year 2013 to 2014
  23. The information provided on the website is clear - post #581 - it is the maintainence element which is assessed annually .They do ask you to update - the DADA institution - if your circumstances change dramatically (ie death / redundancy etc)
  24. Taken from The Education Funding Agency info sheet Questions and Answers...4.1 Do we need to income assess students for fees and maintenance support each year? Support for the fees element of the Award should be assessed once and will normally last for the duration of the student’s course. Students will need to apply for maintenance funding each academic year. Possibly different institutions apply their own interpretation of the rules.
  25. Hi Amethyst - I believe the DADA level is set for the duration of the course but if you qualify for a maintenance element that is assessed yearly.
