  1. If you have a DD/DS preparing for entry in 2016 this might be of interest. Just seen on YDA Facebook page Young Dancers Academy and West London School of Dance 36 mins ยท NEW!....NEW!....NEW!....NEW!....NEW! 2. Wishing your daughter all the best Debs ... it's such a nail bitting time x
  3. What lovely news Chaperone MASSIVE congratulations xx
  4. Like you aileen,i'm puzzled especially with the UK schools being "partner" schools. Perhaps they network on behalf of their pupils while they are there and invite the artistic directors to visit them in house to showcase the entire year group rather than selected candidates. I'm thinking it would be impractical to have whole year groups there .... perhaps I'm over thinking the whole thing
  5. Rather depressing if that is the case - particularly with the cost of attending.
  6. Pastel,I might be wrong but I think that you can submit a dvd rather than attend pre selection .... might be worth investigating
  7. So happy for your son and you ... he did you all proud and deserves all of his choices xxx
  8. Hi Meggy I can't give you a definitive answer. Most schools will hold a waiting list so funding might come up. Some school's have bursary schemes. Whichever way you look at it there is a fair amount of personal money to be found. There is a thread on DADA funding if you do a search.
  9. Hi meggy13 - in answer to your question. DADAs are awarded to the most talented but are means tested. you can see more here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dance-and-drama-awards-income-scales

  18. Congratulations to your DD wildflowers .... in answer to your question, last year some yeses heard later than others. Good luck to all waiting. (letters, especially over the weekend, take longer to reach some places x)
  19. Flora,I think that possibly we are too far off topic for this thread - perhaps start another. I can only speak for my daughter who auditioned with RAD grade 5. She was an RBS SA and in the past had danced with other Associate schemes. Before the age of 13 she was doing 2 - 3 hours of ballet and 1 of modern and then was accepted as a 2nd year MA. We certainly took advantage of summer/easter schools and any other training that we could access in year 10 in preparation for the auditions . The point I was trying to make is that it is not a necessity to have vocational training from the age of 11 to succeed - there are many routes and none of them hold a guarantee - oh if only!
  20. Just to give a glimmer of hope to those who are auditioning for Upper Schools without the lower school vocational training. Last year at ENBS 4 of the 6 UK entrants were from non vocational training and again, at Central,Elmhurst,Tring and RCS offers were made. These offers came with DADAs/student funding - as has been said before on this forum, with good local training, associate schemes and summer schools it is possible to gain a place at Upper school.
  21. Sandsfoot sorry to see that your daughter didn't get the news that she was hoping for. 4 attempts at RBS shows how tenacious she is and I am sure that she will bounce back from this disappointment again. RBS is only one route to follow, there are many more and they might just be a better fit for your daughter. Have you looked at other Associate programmes? I don't know where you are based but maybe have a look at Cecchetti,Central School of Ballet,Tring CBA and South East Scholars. If you are based elsewhere perhaps others on the forums can help with suggestions. My daughter was an SA with RBS and not all the girls came through the RBS Associate programme. After a couple of years training somewhere else,if she wanted to she could try for RBS again. Good luck to you both and all best wishes.
  22. Chaperone everyone that I have spoken to says that it is a lovely day to take part in ,whether you win or not. My DD was hoping to take part this year but it clashes with school assessments, so it's not possible. Your daughter has a distinction,I would think that she will be perfect Let us know how she gets on if she enters ... and good luck!
  23. Sorry to see your news gowiththeflow - hugs to you both and good wishes for the future. Remember its a not now xx
  24. Hello janeyshell, welcome to the forum. I'm wondering how old your daughter is and what her dancing experience/level to date is. I'm sure that you will get lots of recommendations here
