Hi Lilac,my daughter loved Tring CBA and felt that the tuition was very good.One drawback might be that it is bi weekly. Not a problem for us as she did this in addition to a Saturday associate course. Apologies but I can't advise on the others as we have no experience of them - I'm sure that others will help although Stinson Academy is probably a bit new for comment (tho it does look very exciting )

On the application form it says that you can apply between the ages of 16 -18 (ages as of 31 August) I suspect the reality is that not many 18 year olds are accepted into 1st year. Maybe direct entry into 2nd year or graduate year if you have what they are looking for.

Having just been through the Upper School audition rounds and having been through the lows of the" no thank you"@ RBS and the highs of the "yes we want you" @ ENBS,Elmhurst,RCS and Ellison I can honestly say that I feel the right school for the child will pick them (and the child the school). I think that RBS do not always pick the most exceptional children - they pick the children that they feel will respond to their method of training. Many people said to me that my DD was a "dead cert" for RBS when in fact the reality was that she wasn't even offered finals. I believe of course that she is the one that got away but I also believe that she is truly happy with her final choice,will make every day count and will stand as good a chance as an RBS graduate when they stand shoulder to shoulder when auditioning for a contract - The Royal Ballet is not only made up from RBS graduates - Look at the alumni from Elmhurst balletmum16 and know that your DD is in a wonderful place,all good wishes to her!

My daughter was accepted at Ellison last year - she was 15 at the time . The tuition fees were $11700, accommodation in dorms which were within walking distance of the school (but didn't include food - student responsible for feeding and looking after themselves although there is a chaperone on site) were around $1800 for a single room and $1250 for shared per month - fees at professional childrens school were $36000 if I remember rightly - we decided that unless we won the lottery it was a no go and she is happy to have a place at ENBS this year with a DADA If you are looking at sending your DS Spax Mr Ellison does have ltd scholarships and is known to favour boys he is a great teacher.

JulieW I think that in the past a higher percentage of Associates were successful in progressing to US - I think that possibly there has been a change of policy and it was stressed as my DD entered into the SA group that this should not be seen as a gateway to US. Indeed this year,despite being a group of very talented girls only 2 made it through to finals and none were successful. As always I believe that the right school for the dancer will select them and offer them the best route for success - we have a home grown example in Lauretta Summerscales.

Hi PrettyPointes that is a really interesting post. How are you approaching the lead up to auditions,are you confident that you are able to find the training that you need in the UK? My daughter did as many Summer Schools as she could last year to supplement her usual classes and came to an agreement with her headmaster to enable her to take more ballet classes in preparation for her auditions.I agree in the US they are much more flexible with the training available and many children do home or online schooling to enable them to train intensively. It is indeed very competitive at all the auditions but the schools are still looking at potential not perfection and they will want to train a dancer in their own style.Many children from the UK are successful in gaining a place at the school of their choice and this year in particular many from Whitelodge were successful in gaining a place at RBS Upper School which surely must be a testament to the training they have received so far.

Prettypointes my DD attended the ENBS audition workshop which she found really useful. They held two - October and January I believe but have a look at their website to find out more.

I rang and asked this today and was told that they need the P60 - I did have the impression from the call,that the end of May will be the cut off for the school to submit their figures,despite what the letter says. I think it will be sensible to keep them updated if the P60 doesn't arrive before the "official" cut off date.

We have been asked to return ours by 17 May ... still waiting on P60

Whatever the results the process is brutal - it's interesting to note that at Hamburg candidates are told the results on the day - in my mind a far more efficient and more humane approach - what do others think?

Hi Lala - you have definitive knowledge so obviously what I understood was not true. I was told by a pupil at RBS that those from White lodge are seen separately and do not attend the preliminary auditions. The audition year is a steep learning curve with lots of misinformation along with some that is very pertinent. It is great to hear the definitive from those that have the answers.
