  1. My dd's solo was about 1.15 and she wasn't stopped, so maybe if it's just over they are more lenient.
  2. I'm sending my dd a tin opener suitable for a left-handed person this weekend as the one I bought her to take away is for right-handers (took her half an hour to open a tin after a very long day! ) I also like to send her photos or post cards with messages on and I usually try to send her something to make her laugh. Bath bombs are a good idea tutu girl - will include one this week. If she was at her old school, she'd be coming home tonight so I think a parcel would be very much appreciated.
  3. [quote name="Frost" post="185739" timestamp="1474486827" The first years at ballet west are given the possibility to do at least English highers exams through Oban High. I don't know if they can take more subjects too, I know one of the first years parents was looking into that. My dd started ballet west this year, but she finished her highers this year, so I have not personally looked into this. I asked if they were able to take the Advanced Higher English exam and was told this wasn't possible.
  4. There is a hairdressers near where I live called 'Curl up and Dye' ????
  5. Just spent a fabulous weekend in Scotland and will soon be leaving my dd in her house (with beautiful mountain views) ready to start at Ballet West. I had wondered whether she'd made the right choice, but after spending time here and speaking to the staff I know this is the right place for her and feel very excited for her future. Good luck to everyone else starting and continuing their dance education. x
  6. Just in case anyone is waiting - there is still movement on dada waiting list for Tring as my dd was offered an award. We are going to decline as she is definite in her decision to go to Ballet West, so someone else will get an offer within the next couple of days. X
  7. She was 16 this month which just cut her off from being in the group above. I think it's such a good idea to take part in a holiday course of a school you may wish to apply for as the reality is very often different from dc's notion.
  8. My dd took part in the Rambert summer intensive which was advertised as a taster of full time training at the school. This was not a residential course but there was the option of staying in Homestay accommodation. Each day there were classes in ballet, rep, contemporary and creative led mainly by Rambert faculty although I believe some contemporary classes were taught by graduates. There were three groups, split I think by age as the ability level in each was clearly very mixed. There were very few vocational children on this course. My dd was in the middle group which meant the ballet class held no challenge for her although she joined in with the senior group when her timetable permitted. All in all, she enjoyed the week, particularly the repertoire classes and felt that the experience confirmed which direction she wanted to follow as a dancer, but would not want to go again, preferring a more ballet focussed course.
  9. Thank you Dr Dance - very interesting. Also in cases where an individual finds it difficult to express their emotions, then the hostility can be internalised and perhaps result in self harm..
  10. I think it is also important to give your child strategies to cope with this type of behaviour. Of course they won't always work and it is equally important to know when to ask for help. I only ever had to make a telephone call on 2 occasions and found the school to be excellent but boarding staff not so good.
  11. In my opinion, whatever the intention behind the action, smacking is NOT ok.
  12. Although realistically we are not expecting anything, My child had a fantastic time yesterday at RBS. From the minute we entered the building everyone we met was friendly and welcoming and it was lovely to see how they reassured a particularly nervous girl. The panel were all very encouraging and my dd felt they observed everyone equally. And Daria klimontova took the class which was the icing on the cake! All in all a great experience and she came out in her words "buzzing "! Worth every penny.
  13. Wait list for CG here too. Never expected to get a place, was really just testing the theory that all those at voc school get wait list. Any opinions?
  14. Thank you I have all these details, Like Karen I was wondering about costumes and other people's experiences.
  15. My daughter has been asked to enter this competition by her school and I was wondering if anyone could give us any insight into it. Any advice would be very welcome.
  16. Deepest condolences to you and Mary's family. I once watched her teaching a class and I can honestly say she moved me to tears. x
  17. I can't remember specifically, it was a couple of days after it came online.
  18. We have Jan 7! Will have to ration the mince pies!
  19. I ended up just putting a cross beside each chosen box and so did a friend. This seems to be acceptable as we got an audition date through very quickly.
  20. My daughter was also there and although she was happy with her performance and felt she couldn't have done any more she said she was barely looked at at all. Even so, she really enjoyed the class and came away in high spirits, happy to have got the first audition over and already looking forward to the next one. She is very accepting of the fact that she's not what all the schools are looking for.
  21. My dd used one from Just Ballet which was around £50 I think - definitely no more.
  22. I am a primary school teacher and last year in my class I had an Ian, Kevin, Stanley and a Percy!
