  1. All tickets for the new season go on sale on 16th October. Apart from Onegin, the new season includes Il Pipistrello (The Bat) by Petit. The rake in the stalls is quite poor, and if you book in a box make sure you choose front row only. I usually sit in the first or second galleries, where seats are cheaper, but the security rail is extremely high and very annoying in the front row. You either have to crane your neck or peer under the rail, either way neck pain is guaranteed. During my last visit on Saturday for Beauty, since I was in the second row of the second balcony and had people leaning forward and blocking my view, I went and took a look at the amphitheatre, which I had never considered before. The sightlines are excellent and the rail does not get in the way. That's where I aim to try for seats in the future.
  2. He is supposed to be guesting in Onegin in Rome in April 2025, and I've been telling all my friends that this is an opportunity not to be missed!
  3. It's not easy, Milan is an expensive place and prices have gone up a lot post-Covid. My favourite little hotel, which was five minutes from La Scala and very reasonably priced, closed for renovation and I fear will reopen with significantly higher prices. When it closed I started staying at the Hotel Gran Duca di York, near the Duomo. It's a very nice hotel, but the prices are rising steadily there too. You might want to look at hotels near the station, the transport system is very efficient. I've booked the Andreola Hotel, near the station, for January since Gran Duca was much more expensive, the reviews are very good so I hope I've found a good solution for the future. Hope this helps.
  4. Since September is finally here (yay!) I thought I'd ask if anyone else is going to Fille on the 27th and would be interested in meeting during the interval. Just over three weeks to go now.
  5. The Rome Sleeping Beauty, not Swan Lake. I was greatly looking forward to seeing her, but am glad (well, not glad because it's an injury, of course!) to see there's a good reason why she's pulled out. Until a few years ago Rome had developed a poor reputation for announcing names who thereafter did not appear, and I was afraid this was happening again.
  6. I'm late posting this, but I saw both performances on the 15th. The Dream is one of my favourite ballets, and having the opportunity to see Francesca Hayward's Titania was unmissable for me. I was meeting a friend, who wasn't keen on seeing two consecutive shows, so I contented myself with booking my usual Amphi for the evening. When my friend fell ill and had to cancel, I rushed to buy one of the few remaining seats for the matinee, and ended up in row D of the stalls. It was interesting to be able to see the dancers' expressions up close, but I infinitely prefer the view from the Amphi. I'd originally booked specifically to see Lauren Cuthbertson, and was disappointed when she had to pull out, but not at all sorry to see Yasmine Naghdi in the role. What a privilege to see her debut! Everything I wanted to say about the mixed bill has already been said, and much better, by previous posters. It was an absolute delight.
  7. Alina Cojocaru will be Hippolyta/Titania in Neumeier's Dream at the Nervi Festival in July. I'm really looking forward to seeing this!
  8. I wanted to update this thread with my experience in Copenhagen. I stayed at the Wakeup Copenhagen Borgergade, close to Kongens Nytorv. It's a fairly basic hotel, on the lines of Motel One, and IMO perfectly fit for purpose. My standard room had a compact but perfectly adequate bathroom, my only grumble is that you have to crawl over the bed (which is pushed up against one wall) to draw the window curtains. Breakfast was decent, at 95 DKK, and the location was excellent. I (as usual) made a mistake over the route to the theatre, and ended up having to take a taxi to get to Tristan und Isolde literally 2 minutes before curtain up, but found the waterbus an excellent transport option on the way back. It takes you to Nyhavn, a short walk to the hotel. I'm now planning to return to Copenhagen next year, for Die Meistersinger and Wheeldon's Sleeping Beauty, which are on consecutive dates, and have booked the same hotel, @845 DKK per night for a flexible booking. I think this is a great price in general but even more so for Copenhagen.
  9. My friend is unable to attend so I'm selling her seat, Amphi Row F, seat 57, £50. I'll be in seat 56. Please message me if interested, otherwise I'll return via the website tomorrow. Thank you.
  10. Would anyone have an idea of how long the triple bill with Les Rendezvous, The Dream and Rhapsody could be, please? The website has been saying "running times available soon" for ages now and I wanted to book a restaurant for dinner after the performance. Many thanks!
  11. Thank you, everyone, for the advice. Manchester looks like an excellent option. I've booked Fille on the 27th and would be very happy to meet any other forum members who may be at the performance.
  12. Thank you JNC. I was planning on travelling the day before and spending a couple of nights in Birmingham. Two weeks' notice isn't much, and of course there are all the other issues you mentioned. As someone who frequently experiences the delays on Italian trains - there's even a saying, "With Trenitalia you know when you leave but you don't know when you'll arrive" - I should have given this more thought. All things considered it wold be very silly to go all the way specifically for Fille and miss seeing it because of problems with the train!
  13. Now that the ROH season is out and there's definitely no Fille (I know, I know, but I kept hoping till the last minute!) I'm going ahead with booking for Birmingham. Flight options from Italy are fairly limited, so I'm considering flying to Stansted and taking the train from there. My question is about Cross Country trains, I know strikes can occur but apart from that how reliable are they? Is there a better alternative (apart, of course, from flying directly to Birmingham)? Thank you!
  14. I went for La Sylphide in Prague last week. It was a lovely production, and beautifully danced. I'm very hopeful that they'll bring it on tour to Italy. The State Opera is a very pretty theatre, with an intimate feel, and a completely non-intrusive security rail (Italian theatres please take note!) The only slight caveat is that the front row of the balcony has rather limited legroom, in future I'd book from the second row onwards. The rake is excellent.
  15. I read the extract. I thought it started off a bit painting-by-numbers-y, and yes, the name of the school is cringeworthy, but I liked the way the class was described, with all the details of arms and feet positions, and the warming up and cooling down. I think the target audience will enjoy it.
  16. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere, but the Kaneko-Muntagirov combination is performing in Swan Lake in Rome in June, on the 22nd, 25th and 27th. Just in case no tickets turn up for their performances at ROH!
  17. This has actually worked out well for me! I hadn't planned on going, but when I saw the casting I couldn't resist seeing Cuthbertson-Muntagirov in The Dream.
  18. It doesn't work, Tattin. I tried that but the site detected that I was logging in from Italy...
  19. Hamburg Ballet is also returning to Venice in January 2025, with Neumeier's R&J. Looking forward to it!
  20. I'm delighted to see Illusions returning to the repertoire, it's my absolute favourite ballet.
  21. Since I'm subject to the Big Head/Tall person curse wherever I go, I avoid the Stalls and always try to be in the balcony front row, or where there's a good rake like the ROH amphitheatre. Looking at BRB's prices for Sleeping Beauty I think I'd probably go for the Circle, where I see currently available seats in Row Q are £67. That's about as high as I would go, hopefully there will be cheaper seats available.
  22. Thank you so much for this detailed response, Emeralds, and thank you also, Sim and Tango Dancer. This is such a wonderful and helpful forum! I've been to Sadler's Wells, for Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake a few years ago, but have completely forgotten what the theatre was like. The Hippodrome looks like it's worth a visit, and it's an opportunity to venture out of London. I'll be flying to Birmingham, probably from Milan where Die Kameliendame is on at La Scala the day before, but New Street station will be useful for the airport train. I've booked Premier Inn which had a very good rate, and hope I can get a ticket when sales open.
