  1. In the Paris Opera's production she slowly sinks down into the grave presumably via a trapdoor. I remember someone in the row behind me laughing when this happened, people are weird.
  2. Thank you for that tip, Don Q Fan. I've been wishing I could go for Ratmansky's Swan Lake despite the constant presence of baying wolves at my door, and now maybe I can manage it.
  3. Don Q Fan, I've just returned from a week in Germany, mostly spent in Munich where I saw two performances of Illusions like Swan Lake, but also travelling around a bit. No problems at all, even walking around late by myself. Do go! What a wonderful ballet Illusions is. I wish the RB would stage it, but I realise that is most unlikely.
  4. My own favourite is the Rojo-Acosta one, next in line being Fonteyn-Nureyev for its historical value.
  5. Happy birthday, and thank you for sharing this fascinating interview.
  6. The Teatro dell’Opera of Rome has just announced its new season, in which the ballets have been further reduced from last season. There will be just four : Nutcracker, a mixed bill ( Balanchine, Millepied, Forsythe, Nureyev), Le Parc, and Wheeldon’s Swan Lake. The new director of the corps de ballet, Eleonora Abbagnato, will perform in Le Parc and the mixed bill. It’s a fairly desolate landscape, but one which ballet fans in Italy have come to expect.
  7. I missed a bit of the first Act, and the livestream kept freezing inexplicably on my computer every few minutes which was very annoying. Whatever the problem was, it resolved itself just in time for the entrance of the children so I was able to enjoy the final part. It was a joy to watch. Well done, Bayerisches Staatsballett!
  8. I'll be in the Stalls Circle row A. Please do PM me!
  9. Sorry to read this as I was looking forward to seeing Cuthbertson, whose performance in The Winter's Tale blew me away. I'm not quite sure where to ask this, but I was wondering if any forum members are going to the performances on 24th January? I'll be going to both and would be happy to have a chance to put faces to names if anyone wants to meet up in the foyer and say hi.
  10. Booking has never been so smooth, all of 10 minutes for the two Onegins I wanted. I was also on the Onegin insight page waiting hopefully and at one minute past the hour "not on sale" changed to "buy". I'm very pleased and excited, the one sour (ok, less-sweet, don't want to seem ungrateful!) note is that I was hoping to treat myself to an Afternoon Tea as well and there isn't one on that date.
  11. Update. My Balkon seat, in the fourth row of the first level, turned out to be very good indeed. I'm hoping to go back to Munich next year for Onegin and Romeo und Julia, and will try for the same area. Many thanks for the help in choosing my seat. The theatre is incredibly beautiful, the ceiling in the auditorium just blew me away. I really enjoyed the Dream, although if I hadn't known about Helena's spectacles and the confusion they cause in Puck I wouldn't have spotted them even with binoculars. Lucia Lacarra was a very lovely Hippolyta/Titania, although I heard that Polina Semionova had been expected to dance that night. Puck was danced by Illia Sarkisov who was simply brilliant. Munich certainly seems to have a very lively cultural scene. That evening there was an open-air concert with Lang Lang in the Opernsplatz, I was only able to watch the musicians rehearse since I had the ballet, but was able to admire the magnificent stone lions.
  12. Update. My seat, 21 in row 11, turned out to be perfect, right in the middle and with a decent rake. Naturally I had a lady with a large head in front of me but thanks to the rake it was OK. The cast I saw was Alexandre Riabko as Onegin, Silvia Azzoni as Tatiana and Thiago Bordin as Lensky in what I later found out was his last appearance in Hamburg in this role, which explained the flower throw and prolonged applause. It was a wonderful performance all round, with the exception of the orchestra which seemed uncertain in some places. I found that quite surprising. I've often wondered how many years are supposed to have passed between the Larin party and the ball in Act III. In this production, Gremin on his first appearance looked young, whereas I'd always thought he was supposed to be siginificantly older than Onegin. The grey hair only appeared in Act III. Many thanks for the help in selecting my seat, and for any Brahms fans out there, the Brahms Museum on Peterstrasse is run by two extremely knowledgeable ladies who make one's visit a treat.
  13. Thanks for this, Angela,I was wondering when Stuttgart's new season would be announced. Although I was hoping for Cranko's R&J, the Cranko evening looks very interesting. I have no idea of the ballets but the music is all works I know and love so I'm strongly tempted.
  14. I changed my ID a few days ago from afds to Aruna S, and tried to change my password but couldn't. Then I shut down my computer and the next day I couldn't log in at all. I had to request a password reminder which was sent by email, follow the link and then get another email with the new password. After logging in I tried to change the password to something I could actually remember but it wasn't accepted. This has been going on for a few days now, I keep requesting a change, getting the email etc etc. and it's pretty tedious. How can this be fixed please? Is it because I changed my user name? The email address is the same. Any help gratefully accepted, thanks! Aruna S
  15. Thank you, toursenlair! I'm not a Mahler fan so will skip that.
  16. On Facebook, tours are mentioned including to Venice, but I couldn't find anything about that in the link to the full season. This could well be because my German is practically non-existent, although I tried to search very carefully...Which page should I be looking at, please? Thank you.
  17. I have asked someone to switch seats with me once, I was on the third seat of a row next to a couple, and at the last interval I asked if I could switch seats with the one on the aisle because I had to leave to catch a train (hangs head in shame, yes, I'm one of those people). It wasn't a big deal because all the seats had the same view, and it meant that I wouldn't be obstructing their view as I left, and obviously I asked very politely but for some reason the wife was unhappy about it. Fortunately the husband had no problems. Normally I wouldn't give up a carefully chosen seat for one far away, but it it were the kind of situation MargaretN7 mentions, I might.
  18. I'm extremely excited about Onegin. I notice that the first day, 24th January, has two performances scheduled, a matinee and the evening. Is this usual? And is it fair to assume that the stellar cast (Osipova, she says longingly) would take the evening performance? I'm trying to see whether prices have increased, but haven't found anything yet.
  19. Thank you, Angela. Sorry I missed toursenlair's query about Hamburg. Yes, I do have that ticket and it's in row 11 of the left Parkett, so it should be good.
  20. I'm sure the ROH can do better than Darcey Bussell. She said something a little strange about being very "taken in" by something to do with the sets or the costumes or something. I assume she meant she was very "taken with" whatever it was but it really set my teeth on edge.
  21. Thank you, toursenlair. I'm 5'6" so it's much of a muchness. I will go for the Balkon then.
  22. Oh the poor things, what an awful disappointment! Hopefully there will be a DVD.
