Lilac Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 DD is needing to choreograph a dance with a space theme. Wonder if anyone knows any space themed music, or where we might find any? Really helps to have a range of ideas! Thanks.
Pas de Quatre Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 In some of my ballets I've used the Murray Gold music for Dr Who, many excellent danceable tracks with a variety of moods, speeds etc. 1
junedancer Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 I liked some of the offerings in this page. http://www.sciencefocus.com/feature/music/space-music-10-best-songs-about-space
Sim Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Dawn, from Richard Strauss's Thus Spoke Zarathustra? As used in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Very atmospheric. 2
LinMM Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Some parts of the film music from Chariots of Fire have quite a spacey feel. 1
Jan McNulty Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 I've got Max Richter's From Sleep album which has quite an other-worldly sound to it. An obvious one to me is the waltz from Prokofiev's Cinderella. 2
Lisa O`Brien Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Many moons ago when the first Star Wars film came out, our local dancing school did a group dance to the theme music. It was really dancey and discoey. Don't know if you would be able to find the same music anywhere. I can still hear it in my head now .
DancingShoes Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 How about something by Jean Michel Jarre - I seem to remember Rendez-Vous has some good tracks 1
porthesia Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Le Roi est Mort, Vive Le Roi by Enigma Got a very in spacey feeling to some of these tracks.
Pups_mum Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Another Vangelis soundtrack suggestion - the soundtrack from Blade Runner is worth a listen. 2
Sim Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Someone mentioned Jean-Michel Jarre above. His famous piece Oxygene Part 4 sounds very spacey and is eminently danceable: 4
Lilac Posted January 9, 2017 Author Posted January 9, 2017 That's really helpful thanks. Gives her plenty listen to! Interesting what different people come up with.
Sim Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Do let us know how DD gets on, Lilac! Best of luck to her. ☺
Nicola H Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Some parts of the film music from Chariots of Fire have quite a spacey feel. VanGelis or JMJ in general are a good punt for 'space type music' even if that wasn't the original aim of the piece ... also think out of the box a bit ... another film reference but who would have placed 'try a little tenderness' with massive machines of war - as per the air to air refuelling scene in Dr Strangelove ... AAR being a somewhat mesmeric almost pas de deux ...
Huddsballetmum Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 The matrix as quite a lot of music which would work well with a space theme.
