  1. Looking forward to the final demonstration at Covent Garden today.Barely heard from my DD this week so she must have been having fun and very busy.
  2. At Covent Garden SS this year there are 4 girls out of 26 in the youngest ( blue) group from the UK and 3 out of 26 in the next age group. There are a few more in the younger boys group but I didn't count them.DD is having a wonderful time both in class with guest teachers such as Ernst Meisner, Viviana Durante & Zenaida Yanowsky and mixing with International students outside of class. She has also been getting great input and corrections from the usual Upper School teachers. There was great excitement earlier this week when they bumped into Carlos Acosta in the Opera House one lunchtime.
  3. The show of work is scheduled from 2.30 to 4 but allow for it to run over until about 4.30 ( Info from the Summer school coordinator)
  4. The notapushymum forum often has audition information
  5. We thought long and hard about allowing our DD to reaudition for year 8 after the bitter disappointment of making RBS and Elmhurst finals and not even gaining a MA place. In the end we left it up to her knowing the slim chance of getting a place in year 8. She was offered a place at vocational school from a preliminary audition and joined the school after Easter in year 7 so places do become available.
  6. My DD broke her wrist just falling downstairs at vocational school - accidents can happen even with normal activities ... She did also break it ice skating ! But that was before ballet school .She has subsequently been safely ice skating .My dilemma now is whether to let her go skiing over New Year prior to 6th form auditions.
  7. My DD age 14 travelled across London on the tube without problem from near Canary Wharf to ENBS.We did an accompanied practise run and allowed plenty of time.If you are quick you may just be able to apply online for an oyster zip photo card which gives reduced fare travel on the tube and free bus travel. The fares go up from £10 on June 15.
  8. The girls formal lined jackets are different from the boys Blazers .I have a girls Adult small ready now for sale dry cleaned and in excellent condition. It was slightly large on my daughter in year 7 but did her until the end of year 9. She is small to average in size. Please pm me if interested.I will also have more formal uniform available at the end of term including another formal jacket which is an Adult medium.
  9. Its not always for a negative reason that dancers give up their summer school places. When my DD got in off the waiting list several young dancers had been chosen to perform at the Royal Opera House with the Bolshoi Ballet and had to miss summer school.
  10. I don't think they are auditioning much earlier than here.My DD was 7 when she auditioned for and was accepted as an RBS Junior associate. She started classes just after turning 8 on average 3 classes per month during term time.
  11. In Manchester leather shoes were worn by the JAs not satin
  12. My DD was offered an SA place but turned it down to stay in her vocational school so it does happen
  13. We also decided against it due to engineering works on the railways over Easter
  14. Yes current Elmhurst year 11 do finals with everyone else for 6th form places
  15. My DD also enjoyed the course although she found the studios very hot.The teachers were friendly and welcoming. My DD felt the teaching was of high standard and she did get personal corrections. They covered a lot of ground in a few days and the show of work was delightful.
  16. My DD did her RAD grades 1&2 at the age of 6.At the time she was doing 4 dance days a week and 3 classes of gymnastics.Shortly thereafter we made her choose between the 2 and she chose dance. One of the classes was a private lesson ,2 were ballet and the Saturday was most of the morning and a variety of dance genres including ballet ,tap and modern.I would be guided by her dance teacher as to what is best for your child. My DD always preferred to be dancing with the older ones.

    Move It 2015

Admission tickets are available at the entrance. There is a booth to the left of the main stage inside selling tickets for remaining available classes .DD had a wonderful day today meeting up with her dance friends from all over the country and taking a dance class in a different genre from her usual classes, not to mention a new leotard.I was pleasantly surprised that it only took about 20 minutes to get in despite arriving shortly after 10. There was a good view of the main stage and freestyle stage from the gallery and also plenty places to sit if you didn't mind sitting on the floor. It was noisy though, not surprisingly.
  18. Loving the opportunity to watch the live classical variations - the wonders of modern technology. Can' t believe how well the live streaming through my iPad is working mirrored onto my home TV here in the middle of nowhere.Delighted to have a Friday off.
  19. My DD has always loved ballet west summer school - small numbers and a beautiful location. The younger students are housed in the gorgeous main house. They are well able to cater for younger students - my DD was 11 or 12 the first time she went , knew no one and had a brilliant time. Older students are mixed with the schools vocational children.
  20. I would go with the leotard she is happiest with. She will perform better and have the biggest smile in the one she feels special in. I have spent a huge number of hours fretting over leotards . For her JA audition age 7 my DD wore her class navy RAD leotard ruche front sleeveless tank style and got a place. This style can often be more flattering than a scoop neck for a sturdier child. For WL finals age 10 I finally chose one then ruined the colour by washing it and hanging it over an old radiator just before the audition and DD had to wear a different one anyway.I can't believe now with over a year to go I'm already starting to fret over leotards for 6th form auditions.I needn't bother as my DD will know exactly which one she wants to wear.
  21. Delighted to report a yes for my DD for Covent Garden SS. The acceptances have to be in by Feb 13th so I expect those on waiting list will not hear anything further until after this date.Don't give up hope if you are on the waiting list places do come up.The first time my DD went to WL summer school age 10 we heard on the preceding Tuesday. It is not always due to illness or injury - that year some lucky children had been chosen to dance with the Bolshoi at the Royal Opera house and had to withdraw from summer school. Good luck to all those still waiting to hear.
  22. My DD is going for the first time and we are planning to walk from Fulham Broadway
