  1. It was a yes also for my 12 year old DD for YBSS week one.We also did not attend the scholarship audition due to Bank holiday weekend logistics. This is our first time too.
  2. My DD is also not attending the YBSS scholarship audition.I had an email saying that we would hear after May 6. ( i.e. after the scholarship audition). All the best to those heading to London tomorrow.
  3. All the best to the young ballet dancers auditioning for JAs in the next month commencing today in Newcastle.A special " break a leg " to 3 ballet friends heading to Manchester at the end of this week.Have a super time , enjoy the day and show the panel how much you love to dance. This may be the first step on an amazing roller coaster journey.
  4. Just Ballet -just tried to send you a PM but you message box must be full! Just to say recent purchase was perfect. Thanks again for the fabulous service.
  5. Welcome PetrovaFossil - I did wonder why you chose Petrova !
  6. Well done to your DD Choccy & welcome to the forum
  7. It sounds like your DD is right on track. Most DCs and /or their parents have an inferiority complex - it's part of the perfectionist qualities and commitment required to make it in ballet - there are always better dancers.Advanced grades at a young age do not guarantee better dancers or future success. Each dancer needs to forge their own path at the rate that is right for them and their families and enjoy the journey as very few of them are going to make it .
  8. Must have been a bad batch of envelopes - ours was open too
  9. Don't worry Hairbelles our letter arrived for Intermediate today - I'm sure it's just the postie. One of DDs friends is also going & she didn't apply till after the closing date. The class was not full.Hope to see you there x
  10. just wait you haven't seen anything yet !- it's called Dance Moms for a reason!
  11. the closing date for applications was just Friday 15th so hopefully not long to hear
  12. For those who might be interested in some gruesome dance related viewing I see Dance Moms is airing on UK TV starting 9 pm on Tuesday 19 th March on " bio"
  13. My DD was a very young year 4 when she started JAs being just 7 when she did the audition. She coped fine with the classes but was always ravenous by the end of class and we both found 3 years of early morning classes having to leave home before 6.30 with hair tortured into crossed plaits a big commitment.
  14. I would assume this means portrait orientated 6 x4 postcard size photos without cutting off any body parts.
  15. Congratulations Tippy Toes Ballet Jack and Plie - at least your 2 are in the same city and being accepted by YDA is an execellent achievement for your DS too. Exciting times ahead.Commiserations to the NOs- that No letter is just so heartbreaking (been there!) -your DCs have done brilliantly and must have lots of talent to have made finals - the school just can't take them all and they are bound to progress in their dancing dreams just in a different direction at present.Keep strong and carry on dancing.
  16. All the best to the Upper School hopefuls today x
  17. All the best to all the potential year 7s stalking the postie this week.Exciting times.
  18. Wondering now if I should have kept my summer born DD back a year when she'd started school. She is struggling with lack of strength in year 8 and is physically immature compared to most of her peers. One of her dancing friends is thriving in year 7 and there is only 4 months difference in age.It is commonplace I know in some US sporty schools for older children to be kept in lower academic years to enhance their sporting success.I know she will catch up as she matures but will it be in time to stay on the right side of appraisal processes.Hindsight is great though I'm sure my DD wouldn't have accepted being kept back.
  19. The closing date for the junior summer school isn't until May 31st
  20. A cautionary tale for those considering opting out of school health insurance schemes.Just thought I would provide an update.I took out a comprehensive private medical insurance policy with AXA PPP for my DD last year in March having first obsessively checked that all the physiotherapists ( including her vocational school physios) and orthopaedic consultants that I would envisage using were covered as providers with AXA.When I went to arrange physiotherapy treatment for an injury in November I discovered that the school physios were no longer AXA providers ( as of October).I am left in the position of paying privately for my DD's physiotherapy at school so she can continue to receive excellent and timely on site care or arranging for her to have off site treatment which is logistically difficult and time wasting.I cannot at this stage opt in to the school scheme or another private insurance company as her injury would be considered preexisting by a new insurer.
  21. Welcome AccentuateThePositive and well done to your DD
  22. Can't make it to Move It but still planning on purchasing online Degas leos in the near future - with DD at vocational school less opportunities to buy tutus and non class leotards but it's nearly summer school time.
  23. Ooooh where to start! It is such a big sacrifice in many ways for both children and families going to vocational school at such a young age .It is easy to get caught up in the rollercoaster excitement of auditions without fulling realising the impact on the whole family if DCs dream really does come true. The DC has to really want it to make it in the harsh reality of ballet school away from family, friends and pets.As being currently commented on another thread the chance of succeeding into a ballet company at the end of the day is slim.My DD often visits her local dance school when home and catches up with some of her local friends but with different holidays these friends inevitably move on to some degree. Its hard also for parents to see their child grow up away from home when previously parental involvement in the day to day lives and dancing lives of their children was much greater. As has been recently stated on another thread most children at ballet school have much more limited performance opportunities than through their local dance schools.Home time however seems more precious to my DD now .I still feel like a taxi service but more at weekends now with more evenings free to sit by the phone hoping for a call. All in all I would be careful what you wish for as your DC's dream may just come true. All the best to those waiting to see which direction their dancing aspirations are about to take them.
