  1. Certainly the younger years at Elmhurst are limited in their access to online resources for prep and research, much less than my DD had been used to in primary school and this has restricted the depth of some of her pieces of work.In general year 7 can access computers in the library twice a week for homework and year 8 the IT suite once a week. The children are allowed with permission from the houseparent to go over to the IT suite during prep if there are at least 2 going. My DD has had a laptop in school but the Internet access in house is patchy and slow ; she says it is adequate for research but poor for Skype or FaceTime (apple devices).

    YBSS 2013

Yes the photos were updated on August 13
  3. At YBSS my DD was in week 1 group A2 - there were 37 in the class age 13 to 16. In contrast at Ballet West there were 9 in the younger group - under 14 and about 10 in the older group ,the majority of whom were Ballet West's vocational students.
  4. Scottish Ballet Youth Collective might be possible .SBYC3 is for age 15 to 18 - auditions are August 28. Application form is on the Scottish Ballet website under " join in".Or weekend trips to take a class in London at Pineapple studios or BRBs insights days .

    YBSS 2013

My DD has been enjoying the contemporary with Christopher Tudor she hasn't experienced this genre before
  6. So far so good at YBSS has greeted school friends like long lost buddies despite it being only a week since the end of term and met up with prior friends from JAs and EYB. It will be hard to top last week though as she said Ballet West was the best summer school ever. Will review them both in due course.

    Last minute

Yes my DD got a call from RBS one year on Tuesday to arrive on the coming Sunday- it does happen
  8. I take the train wherever possible then # 61 or #63 bus from outside Boots/ Debenhams at the bullring across from the station. The bus stops right across from the road it is the first bus stop after Priory Road.I push the bell to alert the driver when I see the green road sign for the BMI Priory Hospital to the right and Edgebaston cricket ground to he left.

    YBSS 2013

My 13 year old DD off there tomorrow - I am just laundering leotards and tights and hoping to get parked in York mid afternoon on a sunny Saturday
  11. Just ballet sells pillows for pointe cedar chip sachets for freshening ballet shoes
  12. Caroline Wright at Centrepointe is excellent. She is a very experienced ballet teacher and ex RBS student .Manchester RBS associates are based in her studios and she teaches the MAs.I still take my DD there despite her being at school in Birmingham.Has at least Grishkos Freed and Bloch.Call in advance to arrange appointment and to make sure she has a range of appropriate sizes to try on. Phone number is 01613370300
  13. Thank you for an excellent review of a breathtaking show NL.I thought the dying swan dance a remarkable and original choreography. The flamenco opening to the second half was thoroughly entertaining and heartwarming.I too was delighted to see how much the youngsters were enjoying their performances. For many of the children this is their only performance opportunity of the year.It was a wonderful showcase of the schools young talent. My young DD was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Ruth Brill from BRB in an imaginitive and expressive piece of choreography.Seven brides was full of energy and excitement .I was disappointed that all the performers didn't come onstage at the end for a final curtain even without a defile- the show just stopped at the end of the final number and the lights came on.For those that were not ballet affectionados in the audience the performance at times seemed disjointed with no story to follow.I am also sorry that all the Upper School performances are during the week and therefore being a working Northerner I am unable to attend.I am counting down the days until the Awards Ceremony Performance on Friday to see some of the excellent lower school numbers again together with a selection of the Upper School's performances and of course finally the Grand Defile.
  14. Sorry to disappoint anyone who is still hoping for individual head shots.I have had a reply from the Principal who said that following student and parent feedback they were moving away from individual head shots but would reconsider next year.I suggest any parent who is keen to see these resurrected in future emails the school directly.
  15. What a great week for your DD Clara, congratulations to her.
  16. Mid week performances unfortunately make it difficult to attend for those not in the vicinity.Would love to attend the Upper School Performances but will have to make do with " highlights" at the combined performance with the lower school for parents on this occasion.
  17. Congratulations to your DS and wishing him a continued speedy recovery
  18. Maybe they will do a performance "in association " with English Youth Ballet? Scotland would be even better
  19. Footage on EYB's facebook page from Belfast today so maybe they are venturing further afield.
  20. The year 7 houseparent at Elmhurst was very sceptical when my DD turned up with stamped clothing. The iron on improved Cash's labels did not survive the school laundry on stretchy underwear or leotards. The stamps have survived 2 years of school laundry.I bought a name stamp from www.rubberstampz.co.uk - the violet colour 8300 for fabric is what I used.It has also been great on ballet shoes underwear leotards socks.I also have black and white but didn't find they lasted so well.I do sew on labels on the expensive formal uniform. At the end of every term there seems to be a large bucket of unclaimed clothing in house - all the items are this same so as long as the names stay on I wouldn't worry whatever you choose.
  21. The physios at Elmhurst do not provide cover for AXAPPP policies so check with each individual school
  22. Even if you wanted to opt out of private insurance it is usually mandatory to have as part of school rules.
  23. This was my original thread I don't know how to link/merge it!
  24. I started a thread on this topic last year - maybe one of the moderators can resurrect it.In short I opted out of the school BUPA scheme and took out a much cheaper comprehensive policy having checked that the school physios were covered by it only for the school physios to drop out of providing cover using this scheme 6 months later just when we needed it.Speaking from the Physio perspective the school physios rate Aviva and Simply Health but I have no personal experience of either.
