  1. John Macfarlane is very much still alive and I have feeling we'll be seeing more of his designs very soon.
  2. Much better during the act 3 prelude this evening.
  3. Princess Florine isn't a bluebird. In the fairy tale, the bluebird is really a prince who has been turned into a bluebird because Florine's mother wants him to marry Florine's (ugly) big sister but he falls in love with Florine (who gets placed by her mother, Rapunzel-like, in a tall tower) and refuses to marry the sister. It all turns out alright for Florine and her prince (as you would imagine).
  4. If A & B share a common grandparent, they are first cousins. If C is A's parent or child (i.e. one generation away), C & B are first cousins, once removed. If A & B share a common great-grandparent, they are second cousins.
  5. I think the point is that there isn't a pause; the performance continues immediately with the orchestra playing a prelude. A pause between acts (as we often get with opera performances) has the performance stopped completely (no music, curtains closed) and is usually accompanied by the house lights rising to half.
  6. I don't know why you don't believe us. The fairy variations were in the usual order and danced by the advertised dancers, save that Choe replaced Stock and O'Sullivan replaced Naghdi. My twitter timeline is full of people (rightly) praising O'Sullivan.
  7. Yes, there was a cast change slip but not many available before the show. There seemed to be more available in the second interval! Choe replaced Stock and O'Sullivan replaced Naghdi.
  8. I agree, capybara. I'd really like to see Polunin dancing again in London with major companies but companies really need to be comfortable that they will not have their fingers burned. Imagine the cries for refunds if Polunin didn't dance as advertised.
  9. Actually, his performance was being affected and it was very noticeable at the time.
  10. Oh, please no. I couldn't bear to see all his second-rate "Nureyev-centred" productions.
  11. I'm afraid you must have forgotten the missed classes and rehearsals prior to his RB departure.
  12. According to Theatremonkey: "Safety bars at the ends of the aisles do not affect the view, though pedants might want to sit one seat off the aisle to avoid them, if they feel like it! The two seats nearest the safety bars have been reduced in price (and A1 taken off sale) to allow for the problem - good response, thinks the monkey."
  13. And me too (having just asked one of my neighbours to turn her 'phone off; she had been fiddling with it during the awakening scene and all through the orchestral prelude). It has to be said, the noise was significantly louder last night, and the 'phone use significantly up too. On the basis of my neighbours and others nearby, I would put this down to the pretty large proportion of the audience that was there to see Osipova - if she wasn't dancing, they really weren't interested. Which is a shame, as the rest of the cast were on good form and I enjoyed the evening.
  14. Reminds me of a Prommers' "shout" at a Proms performance of Iolanthe: "Arena to Stalls: bow, bow ye lower middle classes!" I don't think many in the stalls got it...
  15. I'm pretty sure FLOSS is only paraphrasing what Polunin himself has said many times.
  16. Just had an email from ROH to say Cuthbertson and Osipova are switching places for the 25 and 27 May performances of Strapless, so it will be: 25 May (e): Cuthbertson 27 May (m): Osipova Bit of a shame for me as I'm missing the show on 25 May as it clashes with ENB Emerging Dancer.
  17. I have D26 available, face value £11 (eticket). Please PM if interested.
