  1. Correct (though the Royal Ballet School are doing Concerto in their summer performances).
  2. I recall Naghdi performing the Lilac Fairy variation rather wonderfully in the Young British Dancer of the Year (the year before she won the competiton).
  3. According to the official website, the first night is still 21 March (though tickets are at reduced price until 31 March).
  4. I think it's the failure of the owner of the ballet, rather than the RB's memory.
  5. I agree with some (quite a lot) of what TTP says, but I have to take issue with the rose-based pirouettes - I saw Osipova dance twice (2nd and 3rd shows) and both times she did the correct number of pirouettes (in fact, in the third show, she only just about managed the fourth pirouette on the final rose).
  6. Best new dance production Betroffenheit - Crystal Pite & Jonathon Young Blak Whyte Gray - Boy Blue Entertainment Giselle - Akram Khan & ENB My Mother, My Dog and Clowns - Michael Clark Outstanding achievement in dance Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre for their London season Luke Ahmet for The Creation by Rambert ENB for expanding the variety of their repertoire with Giselle and She Said Best theatre choreographer Sir Matthew Bourne for The Red Shoes Peter Darling & Ellen Kane for Groundhog Day Steven Hoggett for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Drew McOnie for Jesus Christ Superstar plus The Red Shoes has a nomination in Best entertainment and family
  7. A number of dancers have already mentioned on social media that there'll be Nutcracker for Christmas 17.
  8. It's already been announced that the new Swan Lake will be in the 17/18 season.
  9. John Macfarlane is very much still alive and I have feeling we'll be seeing more of his designs very soon.
  10. Much better during the act 3 prelude this evening.
  11. Princess Florine isn't a bluebird. In the fairy tale, the bluebird is really a prince who has been turned into a bluebird because Florine's mother wants him to marry Florine's (ugly) big sister but he falls in love with Florine (who gets placed by her mother, Rapunzel-like, in a tall tower) and refuses to marry the sister. It all turns out alright for Florine and her prince (as you would imagine).
  12. If A & B share a common grandparent, they are first cousins. If C is A's parent or child (i.e. one generation away), C & B are first cousins, once removed. If A & B share a common great-grandparent, they are second cousins.
  13. I think the point is that there isn't a pause; the performance continues immediately with the orchestra playing a prelude. A pause between acts (as we often get with opera performances) has the performance stopped completely (no music, curtains closed) and is usually accompanied by the house lights rising to half.
  14. I don't know why you don't believe us. The fairy variations were in the usual order and danced by the advertised dancers, save that Choe replaced Stock and O'Sullivan replaced Naghdi. My twitter timeline is full of people (rightly) praising O'Sullivan.
  15. Yes, there was a cast change slip but not many available before the show. There seemed to be more available in the second interval! Choe replaced Stock and O'Sullivan replaced Naghdi.
  16. I agree, capybara. I'd really like to see Polunin dancing again in London with major companies but companies really need to be comfortable that they will not have their fingers burned. Imagine the cries for refunds if Polunin didn't dance as advertised.
  17. Actually, his performance was being affected and it was very noticeable at the time.
  18. Oh, please no. I couldn't bear to see all his second-rate "Nureyev-centred" productions.
