  1. Anna Winter has a chip on her shoulder (self-professed if you see her review of Strapless). If anyone happens to disagree with her opinion they are upper class toffs, or brayers from Kensington or similar; she has mentioned this in her last three reviews of RB pieces. Personally, I find her reviews pretty poor, watery and with little substance.
  2. I found earlier press releases from Dresden re Hamilton odd too.
  3. Casting for period 1 is already available to Patrons, so my information is above board and not salacious (or other) gossip.
  4. I think matters may have got lost in translation. Hamilton's contract with Dresden was only to the end of the 16/17 season so "terminating early" is not a big thing, particularly as she was not cast in anything else this season. As noted above in this thread, Hamilton was only on a leave of absence from the Royal and, having danced Jewels as planned, is not scheduled to dance anything else with RB during the remainder of this season. She is scheduled to dance in period 1 pieces, but I am not at liberty to give further detail at this time.
  5. It makes the distinction between "common whore" and "high class prostitute".
  6. The scene in the tavern/café/brothel is important to the story. It introduces the character of Mitzi Caspar and confirms that, whilst dancing in a relatively civilised manner, she is a prostitute (as well as mistress to both Rudolf and Taaffe). Towards the end of the scene, Rudolf suggests the suicide pact to her but she refuses. According to contemporary reports, Caspar actually went to the police to report Rudolf's suggestion of a suicide pact.
  7. Two points to add to this discussion (taking us further off topic...). First, Shakespeare did not invent Romeo & Juliet, the story is much older. One need only look at the operatic versions to see just how the story can be differentiated. Second, Juliet's friends are contemplated in Prokofiev's score. The movement before the discovery of Juliet's "lifeless" body is "Dance of the girls with lilies", i.e. her friends bringing her flowers.
  8. Watson and Soares both ended Act 1 on the bed though in different positions with Princess Stephanie. All 3 Act 1 bedroom pd2 so far have been excellent.
  9. Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically...
  10. No moderator has suggested this thread be locked. I note some posters feel aggrieved at language used and I'd remind posters that they should report anything they think is a breach of our AUP.
  11. And it's given me "That's Entertainment" as an earworm.
  12. Was more in the mood for a debate than a celebration of the lovely Gene Tierney (never seen enough on our tellybox, these days), I think this has come about from a misunderstanding - the reference to male and female there in the Wiki extract is just the gender equivalences of the surnames, rather than a translation. Lord, Master, Noble all the same sort of thing! We can't fall out over Tierney (see my instagram for a few recent examples)!
  13. I really don't know where you got that from, but I don't believe it. The Irish for man is fir (a bit like the Latin, vir) and the adjective 'male' is derived from that as either fierann or fearga depending on the context. Anglicising any of those wouldn't result in Tierney. Tierney in Irish means nobleman (or son of a nobleman) but is generally used these days as a unisex term (and a unisex name) as noble. Says the Irishman with a unisex name meaning meadow...
  14. What a very odd (and extremely rude) thing for someone to say. The speaker would probably have received a very sharp comment or two from me had I been within earshot.
  15. Day tickets (£20) are available through the todaytix app. I'm 5'4 and sat in the front row stalls, near the centre, and was fine. Avoid the next few rows after that. See theatremonkey for more detailed info on other areas of the auditorium.
  16. Except it won't, because if that vote is lost, there will be a motion of no confidence in the government, which will pass and that leads to a general election.
  17. I have SCS D26 for 20th available and I may also have the same for 18th.
  18. You got me all excited that Ricardo Cervera was coming out of retirement...
  19. I'm sorry to say that it's not a criterion for promotion as to whether or not you in particular have heard of a dancer. I think the director of the Royal Ballet bases his decisions on more artistic reasons. Some of us have had the pleasure of watching Takada grow from a very technically talented dancer into a very well rounded Royal Ballet dancer who works well in a number of styles. Her promotion last summer was, IMO, thoroughly deserved. Whilst you may have meant no offence, I think it's pretty rude to make fun of someone's name (particularly when you don't even spell it correctly).
