  1. I hated icing up when I played rugby drdance, to me it seemed to hurt more than the injury in a lot of cases. Nowadays top sportsmen / women get in an ice bath straight after performing, I can't imagine what that's like, but some say it makes a massive difference to their healing, Paula Radcliffe being one of them. While others may have a different opinion just how beneficial an ice bath is, the one thing they all agree upon is, it certainly won't do any harm.
  2. Putting heat on a soft tissue injury within about 3 days is an absolute no no Fiz. If you don't want to use ice, then use something as cool as possible, as it's so important in the speed of the recovery. Heat will make the bleeding worse, as it encourages blood flow. Heat after the initial swelling has gone down, (usually about three days) will help, but you can never put enough ice on a new soft tissue injury, I'd recommend 15-20 minutes every hour, as regularly as possible.
  3. It's a sad fact that children or indeed people with natural talent in any form, can sometimes come across as being boastful. I think the reason is maybe they find things easier than the majority, who have to work hard to achieve the same results. It might not be in this case, but just a thought.
  4. Got to be very careful here, as has been suggested I would urge you to see a recognised physio. For instance the injury could be the sheath and not necessarily the tendon, soft tissue injuries can be a pain to get rid of, (excuse the pun) so correct diagnosis is very important.
  5. Too right Harwell, my twelve year old grandaughter attained 91 marks in her Intermediate exam, but feel we can't mention it to other dance mums for fear of being drawn in. We fully well know it doesn't mean too much at this stage, as we all know it's all about potential rather than ability now.
  6. The gods did smile on England today I suppose, but surely the Aussies can't find an excuse for being shot out for 60. They always say the sun shines on the righteous, and it certainly did that when Lyth and Cook came out to bat. All we need now is more cloud when Australia bat again, as they can't handle swing it seems.
  7. I think they'll need more than good bowlers with a score like that terpsichore. Come on England!
  8. The answer to the OP question, has to be no, of course not. A dancer who's intention to go to a vocational school, will surely be either successful or unsuccessful depending on the audition and what the panel see and decide. I personally don't think exams are a complete waste of time, as it gives the child a little experience, a bit like an audition, only you do get feedback. I also believe that in any sport, an ex professional certainly won't always make the best teacher, although some will if they have the talent to pass on their knowledge.
  9. I'm having problems with my computer, please ignore this as it's just a test. (Hope you all don't mind)
  10. Just to confirm SwaybackSaphire, my GDD was offered a place at YBSS, and she is not at vocational school, just Mids with RB.
  11. What benefit would anyone have by attending a foreign school, as opposed to one in their own country? Unless of course they could speak and understand the language, just curious that's all.
  12. Quality rather than quantity comes to mind, and as for dance moms, no thank you.
  13. I understand where you're coming from sarah, it's just individual opinions, which I suppose we are all entitled to. It's also very interesting that Federer and Nadal both bore you, so I take it you're not a tennis lover then?
  14. It's really quite amazing (I don't use that word very often) what confidence can do not only in sport but in all walks of life. The drawback to this is when one lacks confidence, even if oozing in ability, it can be a nightmare to overcome. It usually kicks in when you have to up your game to succeed, just like a lot of children dancers do when they audition.
  15. Of course Federer didn't change his game for the Murry match, even greats like him don't do that. What I was referring to was, Federer had a very poor year in 2013, then Stefan Edburg changed his game. His net play became even better, serve and volley became a lot more frequent resulting in using far less energy. Federers stats were very good prior to meeting Djokovic, but doesn't that tell you something, he cruised past everyone including Murry. It doesn't matter what sport you are playing, when someone or team on the other side of the line is as good or better than you are, then something in the brain kicks in, and the things you might take for granted become much harder. It's also of little use nowadays just to get your serve in, as the top players are regularly serving aces with their second serve. (Make a note of that Murry) Alison you admit the prize money is obscene, and of course Federer would have swapped it for the Gold cup, but someone like Kyle Edmond and a few more wouldn't have done.
  16. Yes you're right Lisa, as he only gets almost a cool £1,000,000, for being runner up. It was a different ball game for Federer against Djokovic, compared to the match against Murry. The world No 1 didn't allow Federer to play his normal game, and it resulted in quite a lot of unforced errors for the latter. There were some great moments in the final though, but I think we all knew who was going to win as the game wore on. It was a cracking tie break in the second set though.
  17. They overlooked him because he wasn't producing, that is until he changed his game. I don't see how you can predict the final won't be as good, as we have the best two players in it, and both on top form.
  18. Federer has changed his game, almost certainly due to Stefan Edburg. He might struggle a little at his age playing from the back of the court, but he attacks the net far more than he used to, and it's obviously paying off. It should be a cracking final, and one which is really hard to call, just like last years. I don't know about any chinks in Murrays armour aileen regarding his serve, as Federer returned quite a few at 129 mph and on the lines, amazing really and I don't use that word very often.
  19. Federer was in a different class today I'm afraid.
  20. I remember a boy with similar determination and enthusiasm, in a rugby team I was involved with a few years ago, he struggled to get a place in what was a very successful team. To cut a long story short, he ended up being quite a legend of the game, both in this country and Australia., so who knows.
  21. Like Harwell said, the best children will usually do well in festivals, although it's important not to get carried away by any success in them, but there's also nothing wrong in enjoying a bit of silverware that may come their way. All England (it's not ALL England is it) dance competitions are the same, they should just be enjoyed for what they are, it's definately not always the best dancers that win these too, as not all the best can enter it. I wouldn't worry about any remarks from parents of other children, just smile to yourself and be proud of what your daughter has achieved by gaining a place at Hammond. Like has been said many times on this forum, there's more than one road that leads to Rome.

    Tinnitus

Yes anaballerina at least you have the ball rolling, lets hope they can come up with something to relieve it. I've had a really good spell, around 4 months with only mild tinitus, but the pulsatile is starting to kick in, hence what I suspected with the pollen season about to get worse. I just tell myself there are a lot of people who would swap with me, so I just try to get on with it as best as I can. Good luck.
