  1. My son is the 3rd generation dancer in our family and we have all steered well clear of RBS, That really interests me Harwell. Was it by choice or otherwise, as most people seem to think of them as the pinnacle?
  2. There were probably 32 in the previous group. Our girl was No 69, (But No 1 in her group) Like Sarah said "does it matter"
  3. I feel sure the numbering is age related, the youngest first. Ours was born on 30 August, and she has always been number 1, with the cut off date being 31st August.
  4. That would be even better ballet queen, what I probably should have said was loyalty to more British girls at local schools etc, I'm fully aware it's an international summer school, but I'd be interested in the stats. Hey don't think it's sour grapes, we've been lucky, I was thinking more of the dancers you mention.
  5. I don't know what anyone else thinks regarding RBS Summer School but, wouldn't it be nice for them to show a little more loyalty to their own associates. I know it's obviously their own choice, but many travel week in week out, some from one side of the country to the other, in all weathers. Ours has been very lucky in the past, but there are many that would benefit greatly by getting a place. Just by being there, would be remembered for the rest of their lives.
  6. I was going to suggest that might be the case, it just shows though that there could and probably will be opportunities further down the line.
  7. Are you sure it was yr 8 Frogsmum, as no one in the final four was accepted, I can assure you of that.
  8. Last year my grandaughter was in the final audition for yr 8, along with her best friend, a Swedish girl and a Spanish girl. None were successful.
  9. The same man mentioned last year there may be three places, and there were none. Wouldn't it be better for all concerned if he just kept it to himself. I'm sure the assessments come later anyway, even though they may have some idea.
  10. I'm pretty sure the RBS prefer it to all the others.
  11. Yeah! we all knew what you meant mum.
  12. That doesn't leave a lot of time for anyone fortunate enough to reach the finals, in early March, I understand.
  13. Regarding age Cara, I think it's just the way the cookie crumbles so to speak. Our dd has always been No 1 in RBS auditions, and I presume it won't ever change from year to year. It is very unlucky that another girl born 363 days earlier is in the same year, and a year at that age can be vast in terms of maturity, ability etc. They have to have a cutting off point somewhere though, and the older they get, the gap won't matter so much.
  14. Parent taxi, my grandaughter had a very similar strain a few weeks ago, I won't call it an injury. Luckily I have contact with some very good sports therapists, one in particular thought it was a tendon problem in the hip, and after a couple of sessions it has settled down, fingers crossed. Like you say, children can and do grow in fits and starts, which maybe could cause soft tissue strains, ( I'll leave that to the experts ) Hope it settles down soon for her, and think it good advice from her teacher.
  15. Totally agree, like I said, common sense.
  16. It's common sense really, they certainly wouldn't advise against warming up if it was needed.
  17. It certainly won't do any harm to warm up beforehand, but the audition will involve that too.
  18. There were 24 girls when ours went for yr 7 final, but only 4 when she went for yr 8. So if a child does make the final for yr 7 the odds aren't that bad, if they still take 12.
  19. It certainly comes round pretty quickly, it doesn't seem like two minutes since the auditions last year. My GDD auditions in Manchester next week, we had a little discussion and both agreed that just because she had made the final for the past two years, it certainly doesn't mean she will this year. About a month ago it was a little worrying, as she had a little tendonitus problem in her hip, but with some help from a very good physiotherapist friend, it seems to have settled down. Best of luck to everyone.
  20. Personally I don't think it would be a good idea. What happens when the child starts to improve her talents, as we all know it gets more expensive as you go along. There is without question an enormous number of children out there, with natural talent who would definately be good enough to be along side those more fortunate children. This is life I'm afraid, but ballet without doubt is one of the most expensive journeys there is. Can you imagine how the girl and her family would feel, if she did find she had potential, but couldn't afford the outlay, it would be heartbreaking for all concerned.
  21. I suppose they are in the comfort zone, with the monopoly they have. No fault of their own mind, as everyone seems to put RBS as the pinnacle.
  22. Sometimes in life, when learning it's better to be a small fish in a big pond, obviously as long as she wouldn't be too far behind.
  23. If you add it all up and work out what it's cost just up to their teens, it would be mind boggling for a lot of parents. Just a thought but do you thing a child would have more chance of gaining a vocational place at certain schools by not applying for any funding?
  24. Thanks for that lildancer96, plenty of info there. It looks like it will be worth going as it's only a couple of hours to Manchester.
