  1. seems to be only the two cheapest price bands in the balcony which are discounted.
  2. I can report that at today’s General Rehearsal there was coughing in the auditorium and talking during the performance. I’d forgotten these things happened. A further step on the road to normality. 😉
  3. Frozen is one of many productions that has introduced ‘airline’ style pricing which adjusts according to day of the week and to demand. I looked mainly at performances on the 4th December as advance booking in the way I would for ROH performances I consider ‘must see’ and therefore unprepared to gamble on prices dropping later on. For most shows outside the ROH*, there are ways and means of getting discounted tickets if I am prepared to take a gamble and play the waiting game. * In fact, going back to the 1980s/90s, some of the very earliest tickets I ever bought were for RB Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella via discounts offered through Ms London and Girl About Town magazines.
  4. Alison, these are simply the top ticket prices and don’t include any extras. Yes, they might be what are laughingly known as ‘premium seats’, in that they are centre stalls or thereabouts, but any extras: drinks, sharing platters, snack boxes, programmes etc are indeed additional to the ticket price.
  5. IMHO I think the RB gets a lot of unfounded criticism about it’s ticket prices. So, amusing myself on a long train journey today I have compiled the following non-scientific list of top ticket prices around London: Back to the Future £139 Panto at the Palladium £149.50 Phantom £165 Cinderella £135 Frozen £150 Matilda £122.50 Sergei Polunin at the Palladium £149.70 (or £409.70 for a meet me & signed book package) Hamilton £175 Mary Poppins £165 Les Mis £175 Mamma Mia £152.50 Come From Away £125.00 The Mirror & The Light £127.50 Prince of Egypt £129.50 Polunin’s R&J at RAH £216.50 New Adventures The Midnight Bell £75 New Adventures Nutcracker £85 New Adventures The Carman £95.00 ENB Nutcracker £95.00 ENB Raymonda £95.00 Wicked £124.75 Hairspray £175.00 BRB Nutcracker at RAH £87.50 Dear Evan Hansen £152.50 Hex (NT) £89.00 Both Polunin shows are the biggest money-grabbers, possibly because costs can be high for single performances. To my mind though they are still over the top and perhaps are better compared to the price of tickets to pop concerts rather than theatre in that Polunin likely sees himself as a rock star. These prices are, for the most part, for dates in early December. Prices over Christmas/New Year can be higher and the above is before any booking fees. Since Brexit everything I purchase from bread and milk to a meal in a restaurant to clothes and household improvements has risen in price by an average of 20% whilst my income has been reduced. Much as I wish RB ticket prices wouldn’t rise, given the undeniable quality of the RB product & the context of the wider economy, it is understandable that they have done.
  6. After a 2 year delay the long-awaited première of Creature, Akram Khan’s new production dances tonight at Sadlers Wells. I, for one, am very excited.
  7. i had an email this week saying that some performances will now be full capacity
  8. Methinks it’s way too early for a casting announcement. However, I’m assuming, perhaps wrongly, that the piece will be built around prominent roles for the female members of the company rather than the men. It will be interesting to see if there’s parity.
  9. Watching this Gala felt like having Christmas in September. Packed full of unexpected gifts it surprised and delighted me at every turn. It just kept giving. An evening to treasure.
  10. I’ve seen several ads on the tube, been flyered at the Proms and targeted with multiple ads on both Facebook and Instagram for this enticing evening. Initial ticket sales were slow, but the campaign seems to have worked as there are less than 60 seats in the whole house remaining for sale today.
  11. Matthew Ball & Leo Dixon as listed in the press release as dancing the Corsaire excerpt. I was quick to express my absolute glee when I read the news. No confusion intended to anyone on the forum and no offence meant to any dancer.
  12. Matty & Leo dancing excerpt from Corsaire. That alone makes it worth buying a ticket! 😀
  13. Here are a couple of encouraging green shoots of recovery: KVN Dance Company is currently dancing Coppélia (Reimagined) at the Cockpit Theatre in London until 11th September. McNicol Dance Collective will present Awakenings at the Bloomsbury Theatre on 13th/14th November. On a larger scale, Matthew Bourne’s new production The Midnight Bell starts it’s national tour on 9th September in Cheltenham
  14. At my recent visits to Sadlers Wells and other theatres I have asked if masks are mandatory. The response, from masked staff unless exempt, has been “We would prefer you to wear a mask throughout your visit but we cannot insist that you do so. It’s up to you.” At the Proms, the Savoy Theatre and the Palladium this weekI have had to show my Covid passport. The advice is still that masks are recommended however my observation has been that the majority of the audience don’t wear them much of the time. It did strike me as curious yesterday that 18 months into this pandemic, I am not aware of a mask being produced that will protect an individual from those choosing not to wear them. In conclusion I’d suggest that you prepare yourself mentally and go along expecting people not to wear masks and if they do wear them it’ll be a bonus.
  15. both the Dante Insight and the Ashton evening had tickets held back until today. Showing as unavailable until this morning I was able to purchase with no problem
  16. Isnt the programme set up to attract promising choreographer(s) who want to be trained in & learn about ballet? regardless of background, presumably any candidate would need to express these sentiments at interview or audition to be considered for a place.
  17. We were pondering this last night. The Anemoi cast change was listed on the ROH date listing of the performance yesterday afternoon. The cast sheet only lists the cast that actually danced. Quite a few of the Anemoi cast pop up again in Sleeping Beauty including David Donnelly, listed in the disappearing second cast for Anemoi, yet he appeared onstage to dance Florestan later. The only pre-show cast change announced was Harry Churches replacing Leo Dixon as Puss in Boots. Leo Dixon once again danced most admirably in Anemoi and also turned up on stage as a courtier in Beauty. Curious and curiouser…..
