  1. So is the objection to the RBS down to the job title of the individual involved ?
  2. Seb James is the Chief Exec of Dixons Carphone...
  3. Size of School? While the head of a 250 pupil primary may welle able to attend every significant evnt in the school calender it might be rather different in a 1500 + student 11-18 where there is something of significance on average twice a week ( although obviously clustered e.g. week long performance periods ( sometimes several times a year even in the 'nillaest of 'nilla schools) and week long exam shows for arts / DT )
  4. ' the commercial world' is an interesting thing ... to be facetious when was the last time you saw Seb James helping somone put a telly in their boot ... oddly enough in 'normal' schooling the tuitular head ifs often absent from significant events
  5. at the risk of saying 'and such is life' ... now the question is would people be saying that if Mr Annear was the director , or was someone who was a 'high st name' ... ?
  6. funnily enough you may find similar sentiments expressed in a variety of activities / sports / jobs and at all levels from the local provision through to the national level .. it's very easy to take a quote out of context .
  7. is this a case that can be drawn with the comparision between association football, cricket, Rugby League and rugby Union crowds - all of which have their foibles ...
  8. well done ! wow ... answers the questions aobut 'potential' being important and the meaning of it...
  9. what are you referring to there - thong type dance bellt, full seat dancebelt or a traditional jockstrap ? the reason a thong type dancebelt doesn;t showe it s becasue it;s designed not to and why people in 'nilla life wear thong undies with clingy trousers or skirts to avoid VPL...
  10. there are limited options if you don;t want it to become a literal Nutcracker ;-)... 'swoop and scoop' upwards or a 'tuck' as per drag / trans practice 'compress' or 'encapsulate and hold ' bit like sports bras ...
  11. never mind the practice in scotland and leicestershire that sees schools have all of july off and go back for the new term when the exame results come out in mid august
  12. nothing but nothing beats in the same room experienced eyes and hands on correction where needed in the performance of psycho-motor tasks
  13. quite possibly, i do remember from my first time at uni (mid 1990s) that course mates who had been throughthe scottish school system and got in on the basis of highers - and therefore some not 18 yet - those who weren;t yet 18 at the start of the first term had a much more restricted range of accomodation they could apply for compared to those who would be 18 or over at the start of term ... the under 18s could apply for catered halls and one or two of the self catering sites , all notable were corridor based rather than flats and all had 24 hour porterage and SR/ Sub warden cover on site outside office hours - where soem of the other sites only had on site staff during office hours and the SR cover was less numerous and only SRs not SRs and Sub wardens/ warden (sub wardens being PhD / post doc or junior staff vs the SRs who could be senior year undergraduates or masters students - a my second stint at uni the ex-poly in the same city had SRs who were 2nd year undergrads ! )
  14. hate to bring up the S word again but 16 -18s and 18+ living together in flat type environments may be problematic vs halls with individual rooms and SRs/ Subwardens
  15. i think it will depend on the shape of your foot and to some extent the brand of shoes , i find that it feels like my big toes are sliding off the soles in the pair of full sole soft shoes i have compared to split soles ... i'm hot sure how much of the idfference is psychological and you can;t really blind people to it ( i suppose you could make a split sole shoe with extra material in the sole to make the sole behave more like a full sole)
  16. probably worth the time spent to remove the shanks and make good vs the cost of buying and then breaking in new demis ...
  17. AIUI they have a couple of purposes 1. get people back used to full soles after having been 'allowed' split soles 2. get used to the toe box - if you've never worn pointes or soft blocks have you ever worn steel toecaps shoes / boots and compare that to ordinary shoes / boots, the centre of gravity and 'feel' moves a bit ... the fact they look like pointes and therefore are 'pretty' is a side effect ...
  18. that is the more ferry companies trying to maintain volumes vs the tunnel ( as those on open tunnel tickets only wait a few minutes before being boarded - i don;t think even dover -calais has ever offered 4 departures an hour ) if you look at the ferries built for the North Sea routes they were definitely ferries but they had cabins (the Harwich - Denmark , Harwich - Sweden routes were 20 -30 hours one way). The North Sea can be really quite an unpleasent operational environment
  19. FDs should be 120 level 4 and 120 level 5 same as a DipHE or the first two years of a Bachelors, iirc there is something in the rules around HNDs that allows the second year of a HND to include Level 4 stuff ... there;s been all sorts of funding fun over the years including the Ordinary Degree (120 @4, 120 @5, 60/80 @6) labelled as a 'Advanced DipHE' under the Nursing Bursary system prior to the move to level 6 entry to the Register ...
  20. I'm not saying there aren't but it's seen as niche and perhaps something that is not something that is dne except by elite level performers when needed for those roles... jumps etc - from my point as a an adult beginner - the subtle differences are mentioned from the moment jumping is introduced .
  21. I think you need to post something showing a distinct lack of operational understanding of safeguarding and then not accept the opinions of those with that operational experience for people to start getting outraged ... ;-)
  22. congratulations to your son on his Uni offer. HND is a level 5 QCF qualification which is equivalent to the second year of a 3 year bachelors , I do wonder if the DDMMPPPP offer might have been for year 3 / 'top-up' entry - but as i haven't seen the paperwork. sometimes massive arguments and breakups of friendships / relationships are just the spur someone needs. working in health or social care ( or the care / front line end of the criminal justice system) can be massively rewarding it can also be a very lonely and bad place if circumstances conspire against you.
  23. ' Sparkle' in (a) performance doesn't come across in stills and might not even come across in film/ video. I think your comment about seeing the dancer who is now at WL 'in the flesh ' sums up 'sparkle'. It;s the difference between the 'journeyman' and the Star ... but that comparison never stops unless and until you are an assoluta in whatever you do and even then you will still be compared to others either of the past or the up and coming whose sparkle shines through at every rung on the way up.
  24. interestingly most universities do have some experience of under 18s in their accomodation as Scottish system educated students who get a place based on Highers may be under 18 when they start , plus the occasional english system student who has missed a year out and either gone up to secondary school early or jumped y8 or y9 or attendined an english system school overseas and howe it;s fallen has meant they have taken A2at 17 rising 18 rather than 18 rising 19 ... the law is extremely interesting and sometimes seemingly contradictory in how it views 16-18s in terms of decision making / independence.
