  1. they can't really claim it's age inappropriate , given the playing age of Wednesday based on the original works places her as a 'tween' ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wednesday_Addams
  2. something Wednesday Addams ish ?
  3. i now semi consciously /semi unconsciously do things like this , especially for looking on high shelves etc or when i have to reach to the back of something deep...
  4. They do have a waiting list and that waiting list started in mid Feb ! i don't think it's in any way 'bad' ( other than being on the list rather than having got in while there was still normal places) that there is a waiting list ...

It appears the true, 2nd wave, colours of the Academic are coming out. As well as ignoring the suggestion to start another thread. As for 'mansplaining ' that'a a typical 2nd wave and if directed at Sophie or Me and also in this case Trans Exclusionary piece of microaggression.

I also think that maybe further discussion on gender identity politics ought to move to a new thread in 'Not Dance' ...

Cisgender people are people whose gender identity matches their physical sexual bits ... This is clinical fact , not a political statement as the Women's Studies types try to imply it is ; 2nd wave feminism is often trans exclusionary and despite the statements made by many feminists there are lots of people while post 2nd wave aren;t really on with the intersectional approach to such things.

Exactly , it;s a nest of vipers with regard to gender identtiy related topics , and it's said that there is a lot of support for those espousing the 2nd wave rad fem viewpoint of trans as expressed by G. Greer and Jenni Murray among others ... The whole 'cis is an insult' is a sign of cisnormativity being deeply put into the culture of the west by the Church . along with the view that people are never too young to be cisgender and straight ... You'll also find the 'meninists' claiming that the descrptions of behaviours typically associated with cisgender heterosexual males are some kind of insult
  9. sub unungual Haematoma isa build up blood between the soft tissue and the nail - i.e. there;s a curt or crush that doesn;t take the nail off ... they are painful as there is a lot of pressure the usual way to treat them even in A+E is to eithet get a (injection needle) and 'drill' the nail or heat a piece of steel wire ( like paperclip wire) to red heat and 'melt' a hole i nthe nail - the blood then runs out and the pressure is released and with luck the nail is saved ...
  10. bruise or subungual haematoma ? if it;s a subungual haematoma you can treat them yourself if you are brave enough ( but that may just be me having an engineer for a dad who was the son of a toolmaker and a maternal GFather who was a Pit Deputy) ...

cis and trans only really gets used when the issue is a stake otherwise it;s women / ladies/ girls and men / gnetlemen/ boys based on how people identify , although that can be argued to exclude none binary and agender / asexual identities ...

What makes you think the 6 points in question were directed personally towards you , rather than being sparked by a series of comments made. What term would you prefer instead of cisgender ? especially one that does not imply that cisgender is somehow better / more natural / more normal than transgender ? Systemic discrimination is and remains a significant problem when people refuse to accept underlying science ...

mumsnet ? that place is a nest of vipers when it comes to gender and sexuality topics ... i think the important things people need to remember in such things are 1. you use someone's name and you use it properly no quote marks, 'so-called' - unless it is clear they are portraying a character ( e.g. Drag is performance ) 2. be careful of 'deadnaming ' (binary ) transpeople - the 'deadname' is the pre transition name 3. gendered assumptions are hurtful - even for cisgender people - why shouldn;t people learn things which are historically or classically the preserve of the other gender? - see comments in the tap thread along the lines of ' it doesn;t matter if boys do tap as they don;t need the ankles to do pointe ' ... ( even disregarding my gender identity, this would still be something i would raise having worked as a man in Nursing ) 4. various words used to describe people are slurs , people seem to have no issue getting this with regard to race and religion and to some extent in the use of slur words against ciswomen 5. cisgender is not an insult it;s a statement of fact, where cis or trans is directly relevant to an issue. 6 . sex ( the bits you were born with) , gender identity ( how you feel and identity) and sexuality are seperate and you can;t make assumptions on the others based on one thing
  15. Indeed i did hear of an interesting suggestion for a none-binary piece of dual casting , the same dancer dancing Rothbart and Odile - given some productions / version of swan lake have the same dancer dancing odette and odile ... or of course something with CGI to enable an NB person ( or pre and post transition binary trans person ) to dance a PDD with themselves ( and willing partners in blue screen / green screen zentais to be edited out)
  16. exactly , and although i am none binary , when presenting femme people have thought i was binary + transitioned or a natal woman ... which was a shock .
  17. i would ber very suprised if 99% of the population haven't met a trans person ... most transpeople don't go round with a big flashing sign pointing out their trans status ( we'll save ther arguements about whether drag is part of the trans community for elsewhere as there are 'drag queens of all sorts of gender identity both Assigned male at birth and assigned female at birth )... 'passing' is a whole tray of tins of worms , especially when people start setting standards of 'passing' that a good proportion of cisgender females don't actually meet.
  18. exactly It appears Neither Sophie's ( or my ) gender identity has influenced the desire to dance ( although being Assigned Male at Birth , has frustrated it ) attitudes within the dance community are aprt of it, but while there are wider issues especially with none binary identities in the community at large there will be issues with trans dancers being able to access the training they want , in the presentation they want ( especially in early transition or if none binary)
  19. Unfortunately your language says otherwise. You need to think very carefully about what you have said and implied with your posting, as it could very easily be interpreted as transphobic. You know nothing about Sophie's journey, either in terms of her ballet life or her gender identity and expression, beyond the media coverage. I wonder what you consider 'appropriate' rate of progress for a committed adult beginner ? bearing in mind that it can be argued that progress is artifically slowed with children learning to dance becasue of both physical and mental development issues.
  20. It would be interesting to see what the reaction of the masses would be pointe were a traditionally male technique being sought by females...
  21. ♫there's a bathroom on the right ♫
  22. possibly becasue of the percieved difficulty of 'changing codes ' and progressing ... like the differencesand subtleties in meaning between US ,Australian and British English
  23. phones with music player features / ipods are a real boon to the use of recorded music in any scenario ... if you look at a lot of DJs they work from computer with various bits attached and a lot of radio output is delivered electronically ( hopefully reducing the number of peel esque ' oh dear i appear to have put that on at the wrong speed' moments) ( although it doesn;t stop teachers selecting the piece for the 'wrong' class when doing an exercise which is similar / identical apart from speed )...
