  1. Sounds great Emma, but I'm still at school in the dates specified!
  2. I get more and more on edge everyday? When will the email come?
  3. Wow! Forgive me, but how did your son get into Vaganova in the first place? I thought only Russians could! He looks brilliant anyway (they all do)!
  4. Thanks Janet, yes I have applied for RBS and one can dream... But I know it is very unlikely that I will get in, so just want a plan B. Places won't be offered until March Anna
  5. I thought I had decided on which summer school to do, until a kind member suggested OPES! Wow. It looks great to do up to 3 weeks of ballet! In weeks the English school system can do! So, could anybody tell me what OPES is like? RBS is my first choice of course, but I thought I had decided on Moorland. Can anybody tell me what Moorland SS is like too? I feel like I'm going to end up doing a week at Ballet West, a week Moorland and a week OPES, but I doubt my parents would agree! Thank you!
  6. I think results arrive for preliminaries about 17ish days after the audition, Summer School results are meant meant to arrive on 1st March and Associates in early-mid April (for RBS anyway!)
  7. Thank you very much everybody, I need to find q balance between being single minded and realistic! My mum now says that if I can Rove to her that my grades stay up, homework gets done and still have friends I can do the extra classes! Yay! Still waiting or RBS senior associates/WL results. I will try again about voc school. I would hate to wait until I'm 18, though it is possible.
  8. Thank you everybody, I will organise a chat between my teacher, parents and I! I just love ballet so so much... I need and want it... And although I know you can start later in contemporary ballet, my heart is in classical. I'm auditioning for other Associates schemes later in the year. I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle at the moment. Mum says I can have one more ballet class a week if I cancel my tap and modern classes. I don't think she will carry that out though... Sigh. My parents spend £20 per half hour on my piano lessons with a county-famous pianist, but I wouldn't say i am passionate about piano. It's so frustrating!
  9. invisiblecircus, my dance teacher has got students into JAs at Elmhurst and RBS, and a few into full time places like Hammond and many musical theatre places. I don't know quite what to say, as mum now thinks that more than 2 a week is excessive, that it will negativeky Impact me in some way my dance teacher is really stressed at the moment as show is in 2 weeks, so any advice on what to say to her afterwards (I will probably put it in a text) would be greatly appreciated!
  10. Thank you again everybody. Moomin yes, choosing the other school would provide more lessons, but is further away and my parents would have to drive me to classes/associates. My current school actually has a very good teacher, but of course only 2 lessons a week and tends to favouritise (girls who aren't favourited tend to not have proper alignment!) my teacher put RBS forward for me to try, as she said I had the right physique and passion. My parents automatically assume I'd get in, but after seeing the girls at the audition, have decided that I need a life outside dancing. They say more than 2 classes a week would be too much for a 14 year old, and want me to try other hobbies... LinMM there is no formal dancing at school but I am on the dance team, which teaches contemporary dances etc. I will talk to my dance teacher, I hope she understands!
  11. Thank you Kate_N, I will try again tomorrow! I do practise every single day for up to 2 hours at my own barre at home (family bought me a ballet barre for a Christmas present strange,y and happily enough!) - strengthening and stretching work, barre, pointe and i work on different bits of centre too., and have been doing for the past year. im in grade 5 IDTA Moomin. Yes my parents do unfortunately, I got into a top academic school before I started ballet and they never got good grades when they were young... So they want me to be a child who gets all A*s ... 'I can try to become a ballerina when I am 16' ...
  12. HOW DO YOU CONVINCE PARENTS?! I come from a very non-dancing family... They believe that I should only have one ballet lesson a week, and I can go to RBS when I'm 16 in 2 years and become a Darcey Bussell? ???? anyway, stresses are high at the moment because we are waiting on RBS results and hopefully auditioning for a couple of Associate programmes. Mother put her foot down on applying for any other full time ballet schools as she has a bit of a worryingly passionate relationship towards my academic school (she emails my head of year once a week to tell her how wonderful the school is ????). I suppose that's alright, as there aren't many spaces available anyway. Anyway, to the pointe. I am trying to construct a good and convincing argument for my parents to let me attend another recreational dance school for extra ballet classes, as present one only has 2 (one at my level, and one 2 levels below me...) a week. I will work hard to try to pay for these classes, but at the moment parents say no, I can either choose one school or the other (although it would be more expensive that way....). Any suggestions for persuading them? I'm trying not to pester them too much, I just crave more ballet than 1h 30 a week and the schools have links anyway. Sorry for the length of this, I'm just worried that I won't have enough ballet technique, as I onl,y started ballet 2 years ago. I just love it so much!
  13. I'm awfully sorry cupcake and hfbrew. Appraisals must be scarier than auditioning in some ways. Nothing can take away from them that they got a place at the Royal Ballet School though x
  14. I only started at late 13 too, I'm sure the strengthening (and stretching too) should speed it up! Usually when you're older you spend less time on Pointe at the barre (I only had about 2 lessons of relevés at the barre on pointe, compared to the 10 or 11 year olds spending 3+ months on this!) don't worry, you will be there before you know it (and the awful breaking in of shoes!)
  15. Does anybody know how many places would be available for starting Y10 in September at WL?
  16. The Dance Forward course is amazing, dancers like Federico Bonelli and Sarah Lamb teach it! They only do a few days, non-residential, and I know it's not really near Birmingham! (London). About the sickling, I had troubles with this too, my teacher just told me to practise perfect alignment. I did the good toes, naughty toes stretch focusing on 'winging' my feet (turning the top of the foot out from the ankle) and did a lot of long tendus really working your foot and not sickling. Eventually sickling will be gone!
  17. I'm only 14 at the moment! I'm just thinking about the future thanks for all your suggestions !
  18. Any RBS auditionees with results yet? Fingers crossed for all of you, just thought that the Bath auditionees must have them by now! X good luck to everybody !
  19. Thank you so much for all your help, it really has cheered my day! Wow, Flora! Well done to your dd! And invisiblecircus, I auditioned for SAs and WL (just in case!) .it was only the rond de Jambe exercise... I knew the exercise, but the others in front didnt do it, so I got confused mid fondu and instead did more rond de jambes! So I wasn't alone at least
  20. My teacher says about the pirouette position "remember to put your egg in your eggcup!" (Foot cradling the knee!)
  21. On Tuesday I had my RBS audition... I cried myself to sleep that night. has there been anyone at all who bought their audition went awfully but actually succeeded or 'got in' as such? I just felt like I didn't push myself enough or try my very best. My muscles weren't aching at all! And I forgot to enjoy it as much as I should, I was so nervous! I had also had two really good classes on the previous two days, so was probably due for a bad day. As soon as I was in the room, the excited feeling vanished, seeing the already MAs in the room with their perfect feet and stretchy legs! And I made a mistake in an exercise! I'm praying and praying they saw something in me or I did better than I thought, but I don't know.. I'm just so annoyed with myself... After all those months of hard daily practice! And they were all so skinny! I thought I was, but compared to those girls! Albeit some did look miserable, and I'm sure I smiled. But we will just have to wait and see... Sorry this is a bit of a gloom and doom post, I just needed some reassurance! Good luck for all other auditions to everybody!
  22. Hi, I'm sorry this isn't really Elmhurst connected, but how long does RBS results take to arrive? I've done WL audition!
  23. The M Word. Money. 100 years ago, a Russian child could learn to dance for free! Not now! There's so much I need to do to get my technique up to standard (as a late starter) but we still need money to buy food and pay bills! So, is there any way possible for a young dancer to earn some money? Weekend jobs are hard, as we have dancing lessons or Associates! I just wish there was a way! I'll try and find someone who needs some basic cleaning/gardening/odd little jobs, but I doubt there will be many! It's sad how much money it takes to live your dreams ????????
  24. Thank you so much for all the help and advice! As soon as possible, a huge chat is required with my dance teacher I think. Changing dancing schools may be the only way forward I think. Have there been classical ballet dancers who have only started vocational training at 16+ ?
  25. Gosh, how awkward it must be for them to perform Romeo and Juliet! Ballet West is a beautiful school and company, I must say.
