  1. They start on Intermediate Foundation, unless they have already done that grade as was the case with a couple of girls in the current Year 7. Those particular children went straight into Intermediate I believe. Exams are then taken at various times throughout the year. My dd for example did her IF before Easter.

    Hammond final

Last year it was a letter, a few days after the audition from what I can remember.

    Hammond final

I agree with Snape. My dd is not particularly classical and didn't get an MDS. She is however an all rounder and enjoys singing and musical theatre as well (probably more so than ballet). Hammond must have recognised this during the audition as they awarded her a school scholarship instead. Good luck to you all. If it's anything like last year you shouldn't have to wait long for the results x
  4. Don't panic. My dd did not do a solo at the final audition last year. This must be for foreign students and children that applied late and they maybe haven't seen before (I know of one girl who is doing this as she couldn't attend the prelim auditions).

    Hammond final

I have no idea how many funded places are available, however if you don't get an MDS remember that Hammond do sometimes offer very generous bursaries to those they like. My dd was in this exact position last year and is now at the school and loving every minute. Good luck to all those auditioning on Monday ????????
  6. My dd got 100% for ISTD modern a couple of years ago. She wasn't at vocational school at the time, although is now :-)
  7. I've just received an email confirming that my dd has a place on the junior course. She's never been before so very excited for her :-)
  8. My dd has just told me about this too! So funny and wish I had been there to watch :-)
  9. We've applied for the junior summer school as well (sent the application months ago) and haven't heard anything yet either.
  10. Legseleven my dd was offered a place at Tring last year but with no funding final, so basically she had a place but we would have to have paid full fees. It was the same for Hammond except everyone who was offered a place was also invited back to the funding audition. She ended up at Hammond
  11. This is something that worries me on a daily basis since my dd started vocational school in September. I only had to watch her dancing with the rest of her year group to see how many talented beautiful dancers she is training with, not to mention all the children in other year groups and then all those around the country in other vocational schools. They ALL desperately want to make it and to have careers in the performing arts industry and yet the reality is there will not be enough jobs for all of them. I can totally understand why some of them give up and follow other paths, even after all that training but it does make me sad and at times I almost wish we had never encouraged dd down this route.
  12. My dd is tiny and I am constantly having to adjust her leotards. I always do it at the back, either by folding the straps neatly down and stitching in place or cutting the straps and then sewing them.
  13. My dd has waiting list as well. It was our first time applying though so I'm quite happy with that
  14. Hammond have yearly assessments as well. My dd (Y7) had hers in November with results posted to us just before Christmas. Even if they are not under the threat of being assessed out I'm under no illusions that they would be asked to leave if the school felt the training wasn't working for them.
  15. Boogalou, my dd is in Y7 at the Hammond - she gets 8 hours of ballet per week, 2 hours of modern, 2 hours of tap and then contemporary/creative dance all morning on Saturdays. They also do vocal training and drama weekly. Hope that helps but please feel free to PM me if you have any more questions :-)
  16. From personal experience yes you do have to pay deposits to secure places. Last year my dd was offered Tring very early on and we were asked to pay the deposit to hold her place. We didn't want to do this as I didn't know if she would get offers in other schools at that stage, so subsequently the offer was withdrawn. With regards Hammond my dd is there now and she is very happy. The boarding houses do not look great I agree, however appearance isn't everything and the children soon make it homely and cosy. To be honest I am just grateful she was offered a funded place somewhere and if she has to live off-site and get a bus to/from school then so be it.
  17. Gosh Jane that's awful. My dd is one of the only ones who isn't an ex-associate as well and so far I haven't experienced anything like this thank goodness! I did worry when she went that she wouldn't be as good as the others and would feel intimidated, but thankfully she is doing fine and loving every minute :-)
  18. Speaking from my own experience with a dd in Y7 at vocational school I would say yes it helps as they will obviously have proven to be of a high standard, but equally it is still possible to get a place without it. Most of the other girls in my dd's year at school were JA's and the majority of those we met at final auditions were also either a JA and/or an Elmhurst associate. However dd has never done any associate schemes (simply because we never really knew about them) and she was still offered a dance place at both Tring & Hammond.
  19. Although my dd is younger she also auditioned for both MT course and Dance course at Tring last year. The auditions were completely separate with a different panel each time and offer letters were sent to us separately. The only thing that did confuse me was that she was told she didn't need to sing for her dance audition as she had already done that at the MT audition, so I guess that shows there must be some communication between the two departments?

    Advice

Just to reassure you, my 11 year old dd is starting vocational school this week and prior to auditions she only did 2 hours of ballet per week (Grade 4), 1 hour of a Tap, 1 hour of Moden and a 45 minute private lesson. She has never been a JA or done any associate class as we didn't even know such a thing existed! She auditioned for 3 vocational schools (rather last minute following gentle pressure from her dance teacher) and was offered a place in all 3 schools. So in my very humble, inexperienced opinion the amount of hours they do at this age is not the most important factor. I know of other girls who also auditioned with my dd and were in higher grades and had been doing ballet longer and they didn't get an offer from any of the schools! It is all about potential at this age so please don't worry.
  21. I am only packing what is on the list given to us by the school/boarding house, so hopefully we will be fine. Don't worry Peanut I am also waiting for a few bits of uniform and ran out of name labels today!
  22. Tuesday for us! I am up to my neck with labelling and packing and keep thinking of more things I need to buy! Does it ever end?! DD is really excited now and can't wait to go :-)
  23. I am actually very relieved to read this post as my dd is also starting vocational school in September and we have the same issues. She has gone from being very excited to worrying that she won't be good enough and even telling me she's not sure about going now :-( I have been reassuring her that she wouldn't even have a place if this was the case but not sure it helps when like your dd's she sees photos of other girls who seem to much more advanced. I think the boarding is also worrying her as she's finally starting to realise that mummy & daddy won't be there to tuck her into bed each night and help her with her homework and shes not going to see us for weeks on end. It is a huge transition for them and a lot to cope with at such a young age. I'm just hoping once my dd is finally there and doing what she loves most all the worries will be unfounded.

    bursaries

Hi Michelle, my dd is starting at The Hammond in September on a school bursary. She is very strong in all genres (dancing singing & acting) and less classical, so we always knew an MDS was unlikely. Saying that she has since been offered an MDS from the waiting list but we are sticking with the bursary. Hope that helps :-)
