  1. Kate Webster runs drop in RAD vocational classes on a Sunday morning at Central School of Ballet - details on the website under Central Nights I think. I understand that though the classes are aimed at adults, teenagers can definitely attend as long as an adult accompanies them. Dd1 (14) is planning to go to some.
  2. Yes it's Wimbledon. Glad you mentioned it or I'd never have known! 😊
  3. Just a quick update on this. As I mentioned previously DD1 has a place for Course B Week One and DD2 has been on the waiting list and receiving quite regular communications about this. We have just received a final communication saying that the courses remain full and that while some people have withdrawn from the waitlist there are still 66 dancers on it!
  4. Haha @Pointetoes perhaps I shouldn't mention that to my Swan?! 😉 To be honest, I think my two dds would have been buzzing with whatever parts they got as they seemed to really enjoy the whole experience last night and now can't wait to start in August (it's their first EYB)! DD1 will apparently dance in Acts 2 and 3 - a swan in one and a Spanish dancer in the other - and DD2 is in Acts 1 and 3 as a Mariinsky dancer (though her initial text described it as "Moskesky dancer" which made me chuckle). Sounds like all the parts are lovely
  5. Sorry to hear that @Silver. There must be a very limited number of places for little ones and the fact that she is being encouraged to try again - and is going to - is really positive. Everything crossed for third time lucky
  6. Well still looking forward to meeting you @Dancetaxidriver 😄. Similarly, DD1 auditioned in Group 5 and has a place in Group 4. Good luck to all those waiting, hopefully the letters for the younger groups will arrive tomorrow!
  7. We also have a yes for Group 4. Looking forward to meeting you 😊
  8. Ballet (RAD). Grades aside though DD1 is definitely an all rounder so I'm interested to find out at what age dancers have found it most beneficial to specialise.
  9. Not yet but I think it's on the cards (although my Yr 9 has yet to take Grade 6) so v interested in the responses to this 😊
  10. @Raquelle, dd2 had that letter (please come back next year) when she didn't get a place from the SWL a couple of years ago and they were closing the waiting list. She auditioned the following year and it was true - it wasn't a guarantee of a place she went back to being a straight "no" with the original "we wouldn't want to dissuade anyone from applying again in the future" letter!!🤣
  11. Dd1 auditioned (successfully) in her (favourite) deep purple leotard in Feb this year which I'd encouraged her to wear because I'd read elsewhere on this forum that it was lilac that Miss Lewis could not tolerate. Think we'll avoid all shades of purple at casting 😱. Good luck with the dvd!
  12. Good luck to everyone auditioning today 🍀
  13. Oh really, that's great thank you everyone. I do rather like this "not being made to wait" approach that EYB has 😊 (appreciate it doesn't work in all scenarios).
  14. Good luck to your dd @Tatasmum. Out of interest, how long after casting is it generally until you find out the part they've been given, or is that shared when rehearsals start?
  15. Lots of areas within 20-30 mins walk (including Sadlers Wells 😊). The river/Tate Modern/Borough Market in one direction, Covent Garden another, Oxford Street another, Islington and Clerkenwell another. If your dd auditions successfully you'll be spoilt for choice. Terronis is lovely - favourite haunt of DD1! Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
  16. Hope it's ok to post this as not strictly ballet but thought it might be of interest as it was retweeted by LCB - there's a link on Twitter
  17. There are currently about 15 students in Prep 1 but very occasionally I believe dancers will be selected to join via other routes e.g. summer schools, in class assessments etc. Also, Central operates a very strict but well explained "your place is for one year" policy and there will be a small number of dancers in any given class that will be repeating the year. So in Prep 1 the majority of girls will be from Year 7 but a few from Year 8. I checked with my dd and she confirmed the audition was made up of standard exercises and she thinks some improvisation. Good luck!
  18. Plenty of places for coffee and snacks nearby though most waiting parents (and dancers) do seem to end up in Pret 😊. The audition is a standard ballet class with some barre and some centre practise as far as I remember being told but I'll ask my two when they get back from dance (😂) and see if there is anything specific. I think there were about 30 in the Prep 1 audition last year and in 2016.
  19. Good luck to everyone auditioning. Too late for yesterday but I remember listening to a talk from two Central students who were selected to dance on The Red Shoes tour and they advised really going for it in the audition, showing acting and performance ability and not holding anything back.
  20. I'll PM you as I'm not sure I'm allowed to share on a public forum?
  21. Letters with rehearsal venue have arrived today
  22. Absolutely brilliant news @amos73 and inspiration for many dc!
  23. Wayne Sleep was on Pointless (Celebrity version) the other week talking about this very record amongst other things 😊.
  24. Hi yes, have two dds doing this, both for the first time. Very excited 😊
  25. Think the actual performances are 24th and 25th. Tickets are on sale through the ATG website.
