  2. So exam was yesterday and she felt it went well and she felt she was as good as the others who've been doing the grade twice as long. She just said she made a silly mistake in the character dance! Don't think it'll be a distinction (she's never got one in ballet) but hoping for the usual high merit. She has her Lamda acting exam two weeks on Saturday so now to focus on that!
  3. So......exam booked for Mon 26th Jun! Upping the private's over the next month with an extra half hour weekly, but teacher says she's picked it all up and caught up really well and is at the same standard now as the others!

  8. So dd dance teacher thinks we should just go for the exam in 10 weeks. She says 'we'll get her there' maybe with a few extra privates. DD apparently looked horrified when she told her last night but is really keen this morning to give it a go! Got the RAD grade 5 app so will keep you posted! ????????
  9. Have you looked at 'MIDAS' associates? They're in Birmingham
  10. We are regular attendees to centre pointe and I can agree that the Sainsbury's round the corner is a nice store to browse round and grab a coffee. Also the premier inn nearby at the M60 jnc that you'll come off at has a Brewers Faye's attatched and as it's premier inn-fantastic buffet breakfasts kids eat free!! Also good pub food for any other time of day. Good luck for the audition. My dd auditioned 4 years ago and it was a no for us but with so many talented girls and it was for a year 6 place (so don't take as many as for year 4) it was really just to go for the experience! She enjoyed her day and the panel were so lovely with the children and thanked them all for coming and showing them their beautiful dancing.
  11. Hi, my dd is MT focused so hasn't done any of the above but a good dancing ballet friend of hers has done both Moorland and OPES and loved both but OPES she really loved last year so is going to go again this year.
  12. Thanks Taxi yes she's a quick learner. Will keep you posted on how the next few months go
  13. Thanks for lots of advice here. Taxi she's 14 in a couple of months and yes it's RAD grade 5
  14. Princessballerina. Chances are better for Year 4 entry than any of the other years. Whatever the outcome, it's great experience and a nice thing to be able to say that you auditioned for RBS. Plus a day off school. Good luck ????
  15. Many thanks for this. Yes, will just see how the next few months go. Thanks for the info re recommended hours and for the RAD app. Will check that out! Princessballerina good luck to your dd for her grade 1 in March ????
  16. Sorry, my above response didn't work. Just to clarify, it's 1 x 1hr per week grade 5 and 1 x 30mins fortnightly (1-1 private) she likes to do well-high merit would be her aim. She was 2 marks off a distinction for grade 4 The teacher said to wait and see, too early yet to say but knows my dd is quick to pick things up. Chances are she'all be doing her IF around the same time so not sure if it'll all be too much
  17. Looking for opinions on whether you think it would be possible to complete RAD grade 5 in 6 months? My dd takes 1 x 1hrly class per week as well as a fortnightly half hour private class 1-1 to catch out on what she has missed She has basically taken her grade 4 in November but then 'jumped' into another class who have been studying grade 5 for almost a year. They are to take their exam in July and not sure if she'd be ready
  18. We live just outside Crewe and there is a shop just near to the Asda superstore called 'The Dance Place' It has a good range of stock, however if you get a smile out of the lady that runs the store it would be an absolute miracle!
  19. Regarding time off school. I had a nightmare and battle with dd school (Pictures you are very familiar with this incident) 2 years ago shortly after she started high school. She had performed the previous Xmas when in year 6 in the children's cast of a local theatres professional Xmas production. Getting the 20 sessions/half days off for schools performances for the 10 week run was no problem with her headmistress and she said that dd would need to work really hard to keep up with SATS coming up. Well the following Xmas/two years ago when she got to high school and was successful again, I hit a brick wall with dd headmaster. He would not authorise the 20 sessions but only 10. He really put his foot down and would not budge despite me contacting local education authority, downloading regulations for 'performers' and explained that as a performing child they are covered by the performance licence. Well for 6 weeks I battled and finally he backed down due to her excellent start/progress and achievement in that short time. He has however never once congratulated her, mentioned her in the school newsnotes (though they mention anything and every sporting achievement ????) He has however allowed her to perform again last Xmas and again this as she has proved herself and kept up with school work so I guess we should be greatful but I just feel that he doesn't 'get' performing arts and has never really 'got it'. Also her guitar teacher doesn't 'get it' either. She has scheduled her exam in for early Dec (told her it was bad timing due to her performing with the theatre). She doesn't understand that she won't be able to take anymore authorised time out of school. ????
  20. Wow!! What a truly wonderful and inspirational story! What a lot your family have been through. Yes a new chapter for your family. All the bet best to your amazing ds as he starts at Vocational school ????
  21. ???????? Stardancer! Counted on Cheshire being in the north. Obviously not north enough! All the best with the mission. Hope you and your dd teacher manage to find somewhere. ????
  22. Oh please can she come and work at Holmes Chapel comprehensive school in Cheshire. My dd will be going into year 9 and will be choosing GCSE dance as an alternative to core/GCSE PE. My concerns are it is taught by PE teachers and not teachers who are specifically trained in dance!
