  1. They won't ask for splits till they are well warmed up later on toward the end of the class , and don't worry , they are looking for potential to get to splits - quite a few boys even in year 8 did not have all 3 splits yet !
  2. Has she tried freederm ? It's got similar stuff in it to the roaccutane but it's applied direct to the skin - available over the counter
  3. Perhaps there are some bursaries or other awards other than MDS...?
  4. I did think about that but they will be exhausted !
  5. Even Elmhurst ends too late for the first week this year !
  6. Can anyone tell me what age is the cut off for Junior /vs Senior - my DS is adamant he won't go if he has to do baroque with Juniors instead of contemporary with the seniors !
  7. Just noticed my typo - "highs hook " ? how did that happen - I meant "High School "
  8. My DS was sent a childrens BBC video Compilation when a few months old , from UK to South Africa . It happened to include an episode of "Angelina Ballerina "..... He was transfixed - he was dancing before he could walk properly ..... Once we relocated to UK - he was about 2 he danced around the nursery and in all the Christmas concerts .... At 3 & 1/2 he wandered into the baby ballet class at the after school club . After 6 months the teacher called me in and told me to find him a proper ballet teacher ! The rest is history - he had always been the only boy in is class , but eventually made a friend a highs hook boy who was in a much higher class . Dance festivals were a great opportunity to meet other dancing boys . Finally there was an all boys class for him at RBS J.A's His hero has always been Carlos ......
  9. You may well drive yourself mad asking what they are looking for - the X factor - I used to call it ! It's impossible to say ...and differs from school to school. I now think that hey have X places so they choose the children that are most likely to benefit from their particular training methods and goals . It may be a combination of many attributes including flexibility and musicality or versatility - perhaps something undefinable - stage presence ?! Just remember it's personal preference of the panel so what might not interest one school , may interest another and it changes over time - so just go and try to enjoy the experience and manage expectations to avoid disappointment as the number of places are always smaller than the number of gifted children !! All the best everyone !
  10. I don't think the finals were any more advanced in technical skills , just had perhaps a more detailed look at physical facility etc and a trip to the phisio as well as a tour ....
  11. I still remember how tough the 1st 'No' was. But it was a 'not yet' and all has worked out well in the end - so chin up and best foot forward! It will be the first of many hurdles .....All the best and plenty courage to the not yet's xxx
  12. Usually around 24....of each boys/girls so 48 in total in our year
  13. Quite agree Taxi ! And don't go buying new ones specially for the occasion ! Unless they need them anyway and there is time to " wear them in" !
  14. My skinny lads wear the size small
  15. Happy Christmas everyone and thank you for being there to answer all the questions and lend a listening ear !!!
  16. My DS age 13 has just requested this along with infra on DVD for Christmas ! One of his favourites that he aspires to dance one day ....
  17. Found a Gandolphi website , nice looking leather ballet shoes , but they appear to have soft suede soles ...... The hunt continues !
  18. Lottie the ones I'm talking about have a much thicker and very stiff full sole like a pointe shoe shank , but with the canvas upper !
  19. Ooh -Hfbrew normal shoe size 7 I think I might just phone Freed - I thought I would try on here first !!
  20. My DS was given a a pair of what he called "wooden "ballet flats, by his ballet master , to wear to improve his feet - along with another boy in his class ! On closer questioning they were canvas flats with a very stiff full sole - almost like the sole of a pointe shoe , he thought they were made by Freed . He has lost them and wanted me to buy him some for christmas , but I can't find them on the internet anywhere ! They were an old pair- one of two that just happened to fit the lucky recipients ......he does not want to admit to loosing them, and doesn't think that his teacher knows where they can be purchased and does not wish to let him know they are missing ....... They were just for barre work , not for allegro obviously ! Anyone seen or heard of these !?
  21. How lovely thanks for posting ! I'm going up to see it on the18th with all the family ! So excited , it will really feel like Christmas !
  22. Dear DD of sugar pumpkin my son was in a similar position in the year he auditioned to start vocational school for year seven. He was an RBS associate in London . He did not get selected along with all his other classmates and friends and is one of the only ones that wasn't. He was ready to 'throw himself out the bedroom window' on the first night he found out,but after two days he had another audition and in the end got a place at Elmhurst where he is fulfilling his dreams to the present day . Please don't despair you may never know the reasons why but everything will work out for the best ! if your passion is to dance you will find a way to dance! Have a good cry and punch a few pillows and then pick up your chin and don't forward ???????????? I can't find any ballerinas xxx
