    What a treat - the whole thing - so good to see dance song , music and theatre all combined to celebrate the work and influence of an amazing man . The combination held the attention of my 12 year old all the way through and helped him to see how dance is such a great way to interpret a story .

    Elmhurst - one of the first talks we went to for parents was on nutrition ! I know they are monitored regularly in lower school ....

    That must be why we are always asked to be there an hour before the stated exam time !( not just to do the hair etc !!)

    Was that supposed to be dancing ? Looked more like a gymnastics routine - so horrid / to see young girls expected to look " sassy "

    All the above ... Also description of facilities -eg how many studios , changing area - ? Separate change area for boys ? Where to park .... Avaliabilitiy of ther lessons than ballet , eg singing or acting lessons , Pilates, limbering etc

    When we went at that age it was a fun and friendly class where they are looking for musicality and a passion for dance as well as facility and ability to listen to and follow instructions ! No special ballet skill needed , so just tell him to show them how much he loves to dance and wants to learn more !

    I was just day dreaming and thinking how wonderful it would be if 12 boys/ young men could spend a day with Ed Watson - now that would be a dream come true !

    I sometimes wish DS had stayed home , but it is sometimes very hard to find enough good training for boys not to mention spending every week end travelling on a train to associate lessons - which also impacts heavily on family life . They change so much and grow up so fast when exposed to different values than may be the case in a sheltered home environment ! Many of the questions we had and things we experienced are on a thread called "Questions about the practical aspects of life at Vocational School" That might be interesting for you to read. It was hard when he clearly was not coping well, to be so far away , but there was lots of help and support from houseparents . Now we've reached year 9 my DS has toughend up and had progressed much more than he did in the first 2 years - largely because he loves his present ballet master!

    Welcome Balletically ! Sorry in don't know the answer to that question . Thinking back to when I tried to find out who was joining in my DS year , I found that only about 20-30% on the folk who got places were using this forum anyway so I only found 2-3 others who had offers of places out of the 24-25! The only helpful thing I can contribute is to say that as far as I'm aware the current year 8 is fairly full but a bit short on boys .......

    Just found out that 2 boys from my youngest DS ballet class will be off to year7 Elmhurst in September !

    I was just about to say that I die every time Grandad comes with us to watch as he constantly boasts about his grandsons dancing and repeats the same old comments made by the adjudicator 5 years ago !! (Loudly because he is so deaf) I spend the whole time reminding him not to make negative comments about the loud (non classical ) music and other students skills or lack there of !!! He is oblivious to the fact that his loud whispers can be overheard and could cause offence .....

    I'm up at Elmhurst waiting to collect and bring home my Prancing Pickle after the choreography Competition final last night .....I wish I could speed up your letters for you !!! I feel your pain !

    Don't worry the children may be going home on Wednesday , but there will be staff in the office over the holidays to send out letters etc !

    This year in year 9 we were given a pre appraisal meeting at which we were supposed to be informed of any potential issuesthat might mean they're not being an offer of further training. However in spite of assurances there were some surprises and some children have not been offered further training that were not expecting that result ..... Although there will be a reappraisal those children have been advised to audition elsewhere and the feeling is that the reappraisal will most likely produce the same result !
