    Move It 2015

What are the dates for Move it this year?
  6. We don't have satellite tv back at home so am enjoying lots of different news channels coverage of the news in the hotel we are staying in. It's really good to see different points of view and perspectives and some damn good reporting from some reporters including American ones!!
  7. Great news for both your children.....definitely deserving of the celebration bubbly!!
  8. Vasiliev definitely has that more "edgy" touch to him I think ....so agree more Marlon than Brad!!
  9. Hope all goes well for you too!!
  10. My mum was like you irishballetmum!! She didn't discourage me at all but I knew deep down she wanted me to go into more academic education.......which I eventually did......but didn't give up ballet till I was 15. One of the reasons I gave up was as there were more and more requirements from the ballet world and more and more requirements from the school world for me something had to give. Perhaps if I'd been a really bright pupil I might have been able to carry on for longer but did take ages to do all my homework and was trying to start taking on decisions about the future such as going to university etc. Everybody is different but by 15 I felt for myself that I probably didn't have the level of talent required to do what I wanted to do......be a dancer in a classical ballet company.......I wasn't interested in musical theatre etc. If your daughter carries on who knows what may happen!! She started at nine so I think that's an early enough start to possibly achieve success in the Dance World. Good luck with the audition anyway!
  11. When I watched class recently on a workshop day one of the ones who stood out for his pure style was Fernando Buffalo. I did not know who this dancer was at the time but after looking through the Company's dancers on their website realised it was him. I think he may be fairly new to the Company?
  12. Hi irishballetmum I will PM you but at just 12 I do think your daughter has potential and she must have a very good teacher for just a couple of hours a week. Have a go for POB but they are very body type orientated and seem to like ultra flexible pupils etc Maybe they are more relaxed for summer schools but I think are tough to get into!!
  13. Honestly stalls Circle seats are not exactly cheap! Sorry you had to put up with this Coated. Difficult.....does one get oneself worked up and (at my age at least) risk sending ones blood pressure through the roof or just quietly put up with such ....in the end ..ignorant behaviour! I suppose the best thing is to just complain to the management in the interval and hope they can do something about it! As this couple didn't turn up for the final Act they were not really that interested in ballet anyway.
  14. Here where I am in Gran Canaria where we get various news channels this man was making a pretty abject apology on one of them tonight!!
  15. I'm back off holiday on the 19th Jan so will PM you then Aruna. Don Q will you be around between performances?
  16. I couldn't make any of these Swan Lakes this time because of our holiday unfortunately. I had wanted to see the Elena Glurdjidze performance which I think was scheduled for Sunday Jan 18th Is she still dancing in this performance does anyone know?
  17. I didn't see that .....but I'd anywhere near London .....yes indeed.....will have a look. I'm now a Friend of ENB so am looking forward to other events too! Aileen.....well I'm down the south of Gran Canaria in Meloneras. A really great Hotel with a great African World Music band playing right now!! And I'm on my second Alexander Cocktail!! However although it is warm compared to UK it is very WINDY at the mo so temps are down a bit ......much colder than when we came to this area about four years ago in January. Today not too bad at 21 degrees! Yesterday however was so cold ......well about 16 degrees.....that we spent nearly the whole day in the room watching the tv about the shocking events taking place in France.......especially as I have a couple of friends who live near the Porte de Vincennes. Sorry well off topic here but the ENB workshops are really good value for money offering unique opportunities like performing on the stage at the Coliseum! How can you beat that!!
  18. The problem with boxes at the ROH at least is that unless you book the whole box the seats can be individually taken!! I once queued for a performance on the day and was offered a box seat which I gratefully took at the time. However this was a HUGE mistake never to be undertaken again! Because......I was the fourth seat in a box already taken by three friends......with champagne etc....probably someone's birthday treat....And they definitely didn't want me there even though I really tried to be as friendly but unassuming as possible if you know what I mean.......well I realised it was a celebration of sorts ....so tried to keep a friendly but low profile. But I could feel, their resentment and it made me very uncomfortable. If I wasn't such a ballet lover I would have left at the interval!! They had obviously been told the last seat may be sold to someone else .......but had bargained on that NOT happening! I was sitting behind them in a not that good a view anyway. So be Box aware. Some views from some are not that bad but think carefully if you don't really want someone else to be present if you can't book the whole box.
  19. I did their Nutcracker one and thoroughly enjoyed that! If I wasn't on holiday at mo would have done Swan Lake one as well!!
  20. Yes I'm going on the 24th January.....evening that is. I'm happy to PM you for a meet up if possible!! That evening I'm in the Amphi theatre row B or C I think. Ive also got some very knowledgeable friends going that evening who are nothing to do with the forum(indeed think I'm a bit mad) but know a lot about ballet. They are friends of mine who have trained with Roger Tully at some point in the past........very easy going though!!
  21. Hi Beckyl perhaps if the studio you work in is so pushed for space the teacher should divide the class into three groups for some of the centre work. I know this all takes a bit more time etc but you should get a chance to have a reasonable go at everything in a dance class!! Re the toenails!.....are you doing pointe work? It's years since Ive done pointe work but my big toe nails have never really recovered properly I think as they are very hard and Inhave to get special nail clippers to cut them even now as ordinary nail clippers aren't strong enough. The other thing that can be a nuisance is hard skin. It's worse for me on the third and fourth toes but occasionally resort to wearing that gel piping .....sorry abroad at mo and can't remember correct name.....that you can cut to different lengths ....and you just slide over the toe. I find this most effective just for the toes.
  22. I have found Mendizabal a fine dramatic dancer I'm sure she will be good.
  23. I think you could be right Jane!! It's soooo long now since I did any point work have no idea. I don't remember convertible tights when I was younger I'm afraid!
