Lockdown and General Streaming Thread

Recommended Posts

La Scala are streaming a new performance of Giselle on 30th January at 8pm Italian time. Not clear at the moment whether it will be geo-blocked, but some of their internal streams last year were put on YouTube shortly after so fingers crossed!

There are different leads in the two acts - Martina Arduino and Claudio Coviello in Act 1, Nicoletta Manni and Timofej Andrijashenko in Act 2.

Paris Opera Ballet will be streaming their opening gala performance for free via their platform on January 30th. it seems the performance will be carried out on 27th without an audience and recorded so it could be viewed.

The program looks like this, and possibly Etudes will also be streamed.

Having just reviewed how much I’ve spent donating to ballet companies during the pandemic on top of pay-to-view ... more than I’d spend on actual live shows in ‘normal times’  ... I’m now very grateful for these free offerings.

Thank you to those companies who continue to offer them 🙏

I think it may be because you didn't put a time on it.  If that happens, the system seems to take it off at 1 minute past midnight on the last day specified.  I'll try and tweak it.

Edit: I've put it on for another week - is there actually an end date for the on-demand showing?  I couldn't see one.

I thought this was really wonderful 😊 lovely dancing from both sets of leads and it felt surprisingly seamless switching over in Act 2. The two Giselles had been coached by Carla Fracci - she was interviewed in the interval and on La Scala's YouTube channel there are two masterclasses showing her teaching them. All in Italian of course, but there's plenty of dancing in the masterclasses.

The ballet stream is not geo-blocked, but only available until Monday I think.

One of those things I keep meaning to ask: during the first lockdown, there was a very helpful, but anonymous, online spreadsheet you could access with details of all sorts of arts performances being streamed, not just dance.  Does anyone know if there's one available now?

The Club we both belong to has a very detailed one for members.  Well worth the resourcing.  Have found a lot of riches there.

Thanks, Bruce.  Yes, I know that, but unfortunately my membership has expired, and I'm currently locked out of it.  No communications from them, either.

Exciting streaming announcement from my native island 🌴 of Puerrrto Rrrrrico!

Ballets de San Juan - the first ballet troupe that I saw live, in 1962 - has been streaming works that premiered during their most recent shows (Dec 2020) at Centro de Bellas Artes. Up next: Amores (Loves), by esteemed local choreographer Ramon Molina, to the music of Cuba’s Ernesto Lecuona. Among the dancers are guest artists Nayara Lopes (first soloist of Pennsylvania Ballet - a personal fave of mine!) and Telmo Moreiro (principal of Orlando Ballet and Prix Lausanne winner).

Link to BSJ’s Youtube page, which goes up this Thursday, 4 February, at 8pm EST (1am Friday in UK)...but it will be up for 24 hours...so catch it while you can...for FREE!

I had not heard of this company before, let alone seen them, so I checked them out. Looking at the cold and snow through my window,  it put me in a holiday mood when I watched Ballet Nostalgia Borincana and a few other things, so have set my timer. Many thanks.

Thanks for this, Stevie. Indeed, it was Nostalgia Borincana last week...and it’s great that they’ve kept that online beyond 24 hrs.

PR has had a number of larger-scaled professional companies throughout the years, such as Ballet Concierto de PR, but it’s interesting that it’s the first one that has lasted...modest but alive...”the little company that could”!

Is there a list of the Ballet West works beyond the current one, Jeannette?  The YouTube page doesn't give the rest, or any link to where they might be found.  I'm getting an invalid link notification for the Facebook page you linked to.

The first one, Joos’ Green Table, was still up on YouTube a minute ago...so catch it while you can, before Emeralds appears this evening.
