  1. This is helpful thank you it was a post with quite a few more feeds than this however this is helpful nevertheless
  2. I’ve been looking through the forum for ages and can’t seem to find a post someone put up with all the links to previous conversations regarding auditioning for vocational school. Could someone repost here thank you

  4. Hope semi finals goes well. What a lovely experience anyways
  5. It’s quite amazing how quick the results came out from this winter session. Definitely record breaking! I got mine in 6 days! Well done ladies who took their exams this session. On to the next one or maybe something easier!!!
  6. I’d say wear a shoe that you can dance best in.
  7. Well done to your daughter on her exam. I can appreciate its hard to receive a lower score when you’re used to the graded system. I guess it’s worth remembering that the vocational exams are examining ballet in a different context, related to ballet being a “vocation” rather than just a hobbie. Don’t get me wrong, the vocational exams are open to all however the marking system is harder to fulfil as the technique and artistry required is more in line with what expected when training to a professional level. Hope that helps. And I hope your daughter isn’t disheartened. Maybe run a grade class alongside the vocational classes so she gets to experience both standards
  8. Yes I think grade 1 or 2 isn’t the best place to start graded exam as an adult. I think grade 3/4 for a complete beginner. And those returning to dance possibly grade 4/5. The character dances are quite challenging if you haven’t done any character before and dance b can be a great alternative if you like less classical dance for a challenge. For me the reason I’ve decided to do my exams again for motivation, discipline and confidence boasting. After having three children, it’s been nice to go back to class and focus on a goal rather than just a general class. And taking exams as an adult really is a completely different experience. Most people think it’s bizarre that I would take a ballet exam for enjoyment!!
  9. Have a great exam @The_Red_Shoessounds like you’re well prepared. Grade 8 is beautiful to dance, enjoy! And defo keep small snacks for the breaks in between.
  10. Never have I thought to complete the grades until reading this feed. I started taking vocational classes and did my intermediate foundation in April which went well. I have my intermediate this week and I don’t feel ready. I fell off pointe last Monday and twisted my ankle then went to buy new shoes ok weekend and none in stock 😢 so I’m going into my exam with sloppy shoes and my pointe work is shocking! I haven’t even managed to do the reverence on pointe! I haven’t secured 2 double pirouettes ever when practicing! Ahhhh stressed 😩 just going to try and enjoy it even though they are two examiners for the exam as they are standardising!! Looking forward to moving onto advanced foundation though 😊

  12. I’ve loved reading through varying opinions on Diamond celebration. It’s so interesting. I love the mixed views. That’s what makes dance so interesting. I agreed and disagreed massively with lots of opinions. It’s just amazing how one can see something so different to others. The highlight for me was Prima. I’d watch that again. Probably wouldn’t watch any of the other short works again. I’ll be honest, if I was given a ticket to go again I wouldn’t. Or I would just come to 2nd section to catch Prima again! There’s my 2 cents!
  13. I am attending the “dance with the royal ballet” class on Friday (11th). I wondered if anyone has taken this class before? I’m not sure what to wear or what to expect. Any insight would be appreciated
  14. I really struggling with homesickness at vocational school also. The only answer was coming home every weekend. Which was never the plan but we got all the family involved in pick up and drop off. I also found taking every day as it comes and make decision at end of term as to whether to carry on. I always choose to carry on. Although I spent most of the time saying I wanted to leave!!! It’s hard but when friendships get stronger it makes it easier.
  15. I am looking for 2 tickets for the 16/11 performance. Thanks
  16. Tempted to sign up. Are there any offers on? Just wanted to check it out first. Or can you cancel DD anytime?
  17. I would like a ticket for Mayerling Friday 11th November. Thanks
  18. What a shame no one is representing the UK. I know we are a small island however I thought we might at least have 1 candidate! Is this a reflection of the training in the UK? I’ve been watching some YAGP videos of 9-11 year olds around the world doing multiple pirouettes, mature artistry, impeccable extensions….I’m assuming they are training like gymnasts (20 hrs or more a week).
  19. Thanks Alison for looking out for me! It’s for a friend so I will ask if standing is ok thanks
