  2. I am looking for two tickets for Thursday evening performance. Thanks
  3. I’m taking my intermediate in December. Im struggling with the pointe work. I know I need to do more pointe work but I can’t get motivated to put my pointe shoes on unless I am in class and sometimes only taking class once a week and pointe work not guaranteed!
  4. My daughter has had the honour of dancing in the 2nd act. I’ve loved watching it come together. Every time I watch, I see something new and feel something new. When I looked around at the end of the third piece, I saw many people wiping their eyes! Ive had to take 5 mins at the end each time to just breathe and reflect. It really is a special ballet. I can’t wait to watch again!
  5. Watched the general rehearsal today. It was intense and impactful. I was really moved!
  6. As long as you’re daughter knows the steps that are outlined in the focal/linking steps for that specific grade that’s all she will need to know. Also she doesn’t need to know the meaning/translation and won’t be asked to talk about the steps just perform them.
  7. Good morning Whilst my daughter is in rehearsals at ROH I’ve got enough time to get a class in at pineapple. Im looking at the class with Anna Du Boisson. It says “GEN” (general) in terms of level however I’ve been to a few GEN classes and they are actually more like adv/pro. Anyone taken Anna’s class before? Or have any recommendations? I’m an inter/advanced adult dancer. Thanks ps there is an Emma Northmore class on a bit later on but I don’t think I can manage that! I’ll have to try one day
  8. Started a very brief list enjoy first and foremost Water bottle and and snacks Match ribbon /bow to ballet belt Leave more time than you think Pack two of everything including shoes Hair heat, nothing fancy. No wisps Plain leotard preferably high cut. No lace or extra straps. Not too low due to number on back. Wear something you’ve worn before that won’t be uncomfortable and make you fidgety Plan something nice to do after From experience Do what is asked! Don’t do a triple pirouette if a single has been set If you don’t know a step ask the teacher to go through, don’t muddle through and guess
  9. Hi All I am writing an article on top audition tips/information for vocational schools in the UK. I appreciate there’s plenty of previous feeds that I could browse through however I’m sure lots of parents of children putting in applications this month wouldn’t mind a current recap condensed into one feed. Thanks
  10. Thanks for sharing. I hope to get to the Alumni week. I was there 1998-2003. Best days of my life. Such great memories in Camberley !!
  11. In my experience, most local/after school dance schools do not have an audition for entry. They usually offer a trial class and then discussion after on whether the school suits the child’s interest or not. Most schools let children register anytime during the school year unless there is a show or exam session during that term. Auditions for Junior associates are around March and applications usually jan 2023 (check Royal Ballet website for more precise dates). Mid Associates auditions are usually are around October therefore applications would be few months before. The associates programme for the Royal Ballet are by audition only however other dance schools run their own associate schemes which may or may not require an audition. Local dance school usually operate between 330pm-10pm weekdays and 830am-5/6pm weekends. Again, each school is different, this is just my experience as a ballet teacher. Private lessons maybe an option in terms of daytime (during traditional school hours) but will depend on studio availability for the teacher. Most dancers who attend an associate class will also attend a local dance school. Places like the Royal Ballet school understand that dancers who are passionate about ballet and their training will do more than one class a week! There are so many schools in London. I would start by looking up names of schools depending on whether you are based in N, S , E, W or central. Then look at their timetable, see if they do one or two classes per week per level which will indicate whether their prioritise certain genres. I would check the schools Instagram or Facebook and see what sort of festival/completions they run. Also workshops and day trips etc to get an idea how involved the school is with the dance world and outside workshops/activities. Hope this all helps. Fire away if you have any more questions.
  12. Best to just give it a go. You never know what they are looking for year on year. The audition process is a great experience anyhow. Hope it goes well regardless of outcome, hopefully it’s fun and a learning experience.
  13. I believe that although ballet may not be part of the audition process, the fundamentals of ballet are still relevant. Private lessons working on pre vocational level/vocational would be extremely helpful. That’s my opinion. Yes it will be pricey but what you can get from private lesson is obviously a lot more than a group class plus it can be catered towards your child’s level. Hope this helps.
  14. My daughter is dancing in the 2nd part, I can’t wait to watch !!
  15. I have also been looking for my daughter. They never had anything like this on back in my day, or maybe they did however my parents were unaware.
  16. This looks amazing. Do they broadcast this on webinar or record it and playback? I have young children and I miss out on all these amazing conversations!
