  1. Although Mayerling is not my favourite ballet - by some shot - (the brilliant Stuttgart relay did help to up its ante in my eyes certainly) I would LOVE to see Jason Reilly's crack on Rudolf. I have a feeling it will be viscerally exciting.
  2. I think he would be a fine addition to the candidates. He, like Rojo, is a CBE.
  3. Kobburg did such a brilliant job in Bucharest - both in terms of exciting and varied rep and a dramatically splendid and technically astute company of dancers. There are several current dancers in the ENB company - including one Olivier Award winner - who were members of that fine ensemble (and, here, of course, I exclude the radiant Cojocaru).
  4. It's funny. I had for some time suggested this might happen. Indeed, I said as much to Bruce Marriott, the founder of what is now BcoF, going into the Ballet Icons Gala. Hearty congratulations to Ms Rojo. This is a well deserved appointment. Long may she prosper. There is no question but that it will be to the benefit of us all.
  5. I see Maria Calegari and Bart Cook are responsible for the Balanchine - and Isabelle Guérin is covering the Robbins - which should - in principle at least - give them a certain sheen if their own past performances in these works are anything to go by.
  6. Jan, I so agree. I thought it enchanting to find that the NYCB dancers have a little bit of fun with their dedicated 'Nutcracker Self-Cast'. Here the ever buoyant Jovani Furlan (not yet a Principal - but very soon I pray) does his gender switching take on Balanchine's ever effervescent Dewdrop. Perhaps not entirely bearing the speedy élan of, say, a Tiler Peck or Kyra Nichols, but nonetheless entirely smile-bearing I found. Hopefully this might be something you and others might - just might - be able to 'like'.
  7. I've just seen that NYCB have now cancelled ALL of their remaining Nutcrackers. That MUST hurt. Let's pray they are able to make it back for the Winter season next month.
  8. I was very angry with TodayTix when - at the beginning of the pandemic in the UK (March 2020) - I had some West End tickets with them for performances that were cancelled. They ONLY gave the option of vouchers. I wrote but NEVER had a reply. The vouchers have now expired. I so wish my hard earned cash had done so when I made those original bookings in good faith. I really began to question the validity of this organisation. As far as I am aware they are not a registered charity. That's all I have to say on the matter.
  9. I share in this concern. It reminds me heartily of exactly what Baryishnikov did with ABT (and I say that having had HUGE respect for the gentleman whilst a performing artist). That history can I think speak for itself. In this country I think Acosta is believed to be - at least from a publicity perspective - his equivalent. How I would love to see BRB revive their radiant production of Massine's Choreartium - among other things - but who will be really left to remember and ultimately fight the corner for such valued principles? What REALLY frightens me is the prospect that there may well be progressively few left to actually CARE.
  10. Not ballet, but certainly a show with a lot of dancing: The recent West End production of ANYTHING GOES - seen at the Barbican - will be broadcast this Xmas on the BBC.
  11. Surely two of the finest - certainly most imaginative - dancers about. So hope that I will be able to go to the April Festival to see them in a deserved range of roles. Hungry to again witness each of their legato glories in real time.
  12. To my mind, it's ALWAYS time for an Ashton Festival. Certainly Ashton's works are always festive - in one way or another - in and of themselves.
  13. Not certain - but wasn't it Percival who said the entrechats sixes started with Nureyev? He (and here I mean Nureyev) always did say that you could tell a male dancer from his entrechats. (I always thought this might have been because his were particularly notable.) Certainly with Baryishnikov it was always those electrifying brises. If you blinked at those ABT Giselles you'd have missed them - given that they always shot out from the wings like a rapid fire machine gun. Rat-a-tat-tat they went. You could always audibly hear the intake of breath from the collective audience. Sometimes this was quickly followed by collective amazed laughter. 'Did I actually just SEE THAT?' they appeared to be saying. I was lucky enough to see Muntagirov in the 2021 RB Giselle dress rehearsal. I wasn't counting but there is no question in my mind that his entrechats were supreme. Indeed those feet could have cut glass they were so sharp. Definitely it appears his was a case of quality over quantity. We are so lucky to be gifted with such a fantastically talented array of male artists at the RB just now.
  14. I noticed this in the Dress Rehearsal as well, Dave. It's obviously 'a choice' not 'an accident'.
  15. As you say, Janet, a great loss. Let's hope and pray the NB ranks can be filled with just such fine talents as these have shown themselves to be. We are all indebted and send keen thanks.
  16. I see - when you filter - it now says: Some purchases are unavailable while we resolve a technical issue. We apologize for any inconvenience.
  17. I do sincerely realise this is a situation they would not have wished. It must be as stressful for them as it is for us. Wonder if they now have all the staff about to man the phone lines. Sadly some of us have to work!!! It's a real world anyhow!!!
  18. The Theodora has just appeared .... so hopefully Swan Lake won't be TOO far behind!
  19. I'm having the same problem ... I'm so glad it isn't just me ... I thought I had done something terribly wrong like deleting them.
