  1. Wonderful photos - thank you so much! It's great to see what everyone is writing about 😁 http://www.balletcoforum.com/topic/17332-royal-ballet-bernstein-centenary-bill/?do=findComment&comment=237618
  2. What company is performing it? Hope it's NBoC as Guillaume Cote's performance is amazing. Officially a fan of this marvelous dancer.
  3. Gosh yes she is - she always seems so young! But I think she would be ideal. Why do you doubt Michael O'Hare would want the job?
  4. Another of those occasions when I wish I lived in London so I could be there!😒
  5. How about Marion Tait? I can't think of another person who has given their life to the company and knows it inside out. He certainly deserves it as everyone knows! The funding crossed my mind too. When we were discussing AD's salaries on another thread his was one of the lowest and had been decreased, it seemed amazing considering he had the greatest experience and was also the choreographer to the company?!.
  6. Oh wow. He will be So missed. It won't seem like BRB without him. Throughout all the years I've watched first SWRB and then BRB, David has always been there. Just a couple of days ago his Still Life was premiered at the Sarasota Ballet with great success and I wrote congratulating the company saying his choreography needs to be seen to a greater audience. Which it does and I'm really happy that David is going to be concentrating on his gorgeous works. I wish him every success because this wonderful man deserves it!
  7. Well said Christopher! His final two sentences in particular "dancers, are not behaving badly" is what a lot of us agree with.
  8. Yes I'm sure some of his family were there that night, they have been before. A couple of those who cheered though said it was their first time watching ballet, if they meant on the screen or ever I don't know. But anyway it was a lovely night in our cinema 😉
  9. As I read this latest interview it was with the knowledge that it was basically a repeat of what he's said before. I'd love to ask Polunin does he really believe many people can afford to buy a flat in London? So dancers can't, but who can? Dancers are not so special that they are entitled to more money than say a nurse. Polunin says dancers are motivated by the love of dance but so are teachers, nurses, etc. As in most professions it's normally those at the top who are financially better off. And no it's not always right, I'm thinking of CEO's who get millions in bonuses while those who do the ground work, the work that keeps the companies going get very little financial increases. But that happens everywhere - not just to dancers. Further he says that he's enjoying acting because they create something 'together' Wouldn't that rather depend on the production and the director? It certainly did when I performed. Also doesn't that happen in dance? I've certainly read enough biographies & interviews by dancers who worked with Ashton and MacMillan who have all stated they were able to contribute to the creative process. He also states that he enjoys acting/filming because the audience is near and not 'far away' - that he is not ' alone, all by yourself'. Is he serious? Far away?? God! I am going to stop now and just remind myself not to bother reading anymore of his interviews.
  10. Thanks for that Ivy Lin I so enjoyed reading it, wish I had the opportunity to see American dance more often - but hopefully will see SFB next month 😉
  11. I so enjoyed this film. What wonderful supportive families they have. I guess you would expect them to be close because of where they're from - but that's not what decides friendship or intimacy. Alexander came across as a really nice guy, I also had no idea of his hearing difficulties, it's an example of his character that he had just got on with it his whole life and had learnt to lip read. He did appear lonely though and I hope he meets someone soon - (maternal instincts going into overdrive 🤗).
  12. Balletfanp - I agree! Last night's relay really did seem different, or should I say it affected me more, it seemed darker, brighter, and yes sadder. I watched it at Fact Liverpool and the Matthew Ball Fan Club were out to support Matt. When he came on screen & during the interview they all just cheered. Some of you here would hate it - but I have to say I loved it. It was wonderful to see people who may not know lots about ballet or go to see it that often, but had come out on a night like that to see a home dancer. It made me feel warm - & proud inside.
  13. Oh well maybe it was just me..? We've been down this road before when something innocently written can be interpreted in the wrong way....🙄
  14. So tonight I learnt that Sarah Lamb will be performing Manon on the next cinema live stream. I appreciate Lamb is a lovely dancer but she was Sugar Plum in December, she danced Perdita tonight and as I said she's the star of the next live performance. The RB have enough principle and First Soloists that they can surely share the roles. For those of us who don't get to the ROH too often it would be really great to see some of the other dancers in a lead role. I'm hoping to see Yasmine Nagdhi dance the lead performance - in a 3act - some day soon..🤔
  15. Yes Mab I agree - as I said before, well played Miss Rojo......
  16. After reading BBB's stern reply to Richard's innocent question, I appreciated reading all the helpful, friendly responses from everyone else. I have always believed in that old saying it costs nothing to be polite.
  17. I thought the same. After so many of us stated that it wasn't her relationship with Hernandez that was the problem, I don't care who or how old her boyfriend is, it was the condition for the dancers that concerned me. But the interview was eager to speak this relationship in that particular way and speak of Hernandez's ballet competition wins - even though it wasn't Prix, Varna or YAGP. The basic complaints were not addressed in this interview. Well played Miss Rojo.
  18. Wow it's the first news of Rupert I've seen since he left the RB. I'm so glad to hear he's still dancing. And I look forward to reading the reviews of the show.
  19. I think also when the government or state activity supports ballet with interest and more importantly funding - like in Cuba and Russia it attracts people from all walks of life. I know our government funds some of the RBS costs but it's nothing on the scale that the Russian government does or the Cuban - which is compared to the UK, a very poor country. The Chinese and South Korean are also actively encouraging and funding ballet schools and training. So despite the enthusiasm for ballet without the funding you can only go so far. For every one 'billy elliot' there are hundreds of kids who just don't get the opportunity....
