  1. Thank you @Jan McNulty and @jm365 for your suggestions.
  2. I'm hoping to come down to Sadler's Wells and as I'm very short - does anyone recommend a good area?
  3. Call me dumb, (actually please don't ) but why does VR have such power, why do they salute him, even Siegfried, which I find odd?
  4. RIP Errol and my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
  5. I went to the matinee performance at The Lowry, and I was so surprised to see so many empty seats - because it was Jane Eyre I had expected the theatre to be full of school kids. Do they not study Jane Eyre at school these days?
  6. @Anna C That's good to hear about Bonelli - I've yet to be disappointed with one of his performances actually. I'm also looking forward to tonight and seeing Muntagirov's take on it.
  7. Last sitting in the right stalls circle I was next to a man who kept falling asleep - I know I couldn't believe it either 🙄, and would then fall forward which meant I had to lean forward so I could see. On the other side of me someone was tapping along to the music and behind me a woman kept tapping her knee in time to the music. But I was enjoying Nagdhi's performance so much I didn't let it bug me as it normally would. 😬
  8. Having only seen one Siegfried - Kish, I wondered if Scarlett meant Siegfried to appear so weak, he even appeared sulky in Act 1 - I wasn't sure if that was Kish's interpretation or if he was following directions. I will have another prince tonight to watch. In any case I agree with @LinMM I had no idea why the princess's and to a certain extent Odette herself, would be interested in this weak man.....
  9. Finally able to get down to London to see Swan Lake. Of course I chose to watch the sublime Yasmine Nagdhi. What a truly gifted ballerina this young woman is. When she is on the stage your eyes are drawn to her - every movement she makes is special. Her technique is assured those balances and double fouettes tonight were proof of that - but Nagdhi is more than a technician she also is a wonderful actress able to transmit feelings and moods from the stage. For me Nagdhi has it all. Which is why it was such a shame her partner was unable to perform as well. As mentioned by others here Kish is not an ideal partner for the expressive and technically outstanding Nagdhi. Her standard was so high that it showed how lacking was his. The male technique and charisma came from Sambe tonight and quite a few of the other guys. Unfortunately not from the prince. I hate to sound so critical or appear mean - maybe it was an off night for him?? But why....?! The corps were so good - it was so nice to notice how quiet their footwork was. I am full of admiration for them. A very expensive night but totally worth it.
  10. @Jan McNulty thank you Jan for that lovely review of these two wonderful dancers. They will be sorely missed by their company and by us their very appreciative audience. Best wishes to them both.
  11. @ChrisG I've never seen that - but what a great idea. It's good to know the last night of this fantastic ballet went well.
  12. Yes 'some do!' - who knows? It was just my opinion.. Anyway it's Sir Kenny that's got my attention! 🤩
  13. I'm happy for O'Hare and Avis - disgraceful that David Bintley hasn't been acknowledged! But can I just say that I am ecstatic about Sir Kenny Dalglish - so well deserved, we are all so proud! ⚽👍
  14. Firsty I apologise if this has already been discussed and I have just missed it. In a post recently someone enquired about Hikaru Kobayashi and someone else I think?? And I've been wondering about Emma Maguire, has she left the company? I haven't seen her for awhile.
  15. How exciting, for Matt Ball and for us! During a Giselle performance - Nagdhi & Ball's debut - I saw K O'H & Bourne sitting together and I did wonder if perhaps they were discussing Bourne creating something for the company - I know a silly dream but I was just so fed up with McGregor....
  16. Just home from watching Jane Eyre at The Lowry. A beautiful performance by the whole cast. In particular I want to mention Rachel Gillespie as young Jane and Hannah Bateman as Jane Eyre. They are wonderful dancers. The orchestra were in fine form and the score was perfect for this ballet. The real star of Jane Eyre though is Cathy Marston. Yet again we are given an example of her amazing talent. Through out the ballet we were shown the strength of character of Jane, her will to survive, but never more so than in the final pdd. Marston's use of balances. Of Hannah Bateman supporting Joseph Taylor across her thighs whilst in a deep plie in 2nd, or when he performed a high arabesque supported again by Bateman. That movement in particular was just so beautiful that it will remain in my memory when I think of this ballet. Leaving the theatre, with my friend who had never seen a ballet by a female choreographer before, she was just so thrilled with the performance. I wished we could see more of Marston's work - it's surely time for Marston to work with the RB again and create a (3 act) ballet for the company. Her ability to create fantastic narrative ballets married with the technical and dramatic ability of the RB dancers would surely be a perfect match.
  17. I would love to see The Dream again - soon! But this time with Yasmine Nagdhi as Titania and either Matthew Ball or Muntagirov as Oberon.... actually with both now I'm thinking it. What a cast that would be!
  18. Yes there has been lot's to discussions regarding dancers low pay. It is low. But so are lot's of people's. Dancers are not the only people in London, or the UK who are underpaid. Or the only people who have to travel a fair way after finishing work. I love dance - enough to have wanted a career in it, and believe you me my teachers never failed to inform/warn us that it was a short career, that very few made it & it was very badly paid. But we loved it enough to continue. And it was all true. Is it fair that these exceptional dancers have to struggle? No. But I would strongly argue that it's not fair that bin men, teachers, all health care workers - anyone who works hard, or is overworked, is underpaid and therefore finds it a struggle - never mind being unable to buy accommodation in one of the most expensive cities in the world...
  19. Yes I've also thought long and hard about this too and have come to the same decision. Yes the company/dancers may suffer and I do not want to contribute to that because I don't support management. I too have been a fan of ENB for years, since they were LFB and through all their AD's. Previously for example, I attended their performances in Liverpool almost nightly. But not any more. I will select now - Alina's and Aaron's definitely! I will save money to enable me to go further a field too
  20. @SheilaC thank you for this wonderful Lynn Seymour memory. Being one of my all-time favourite ballerinas I just love any mention of this amazing ballerina.
