    I couldn’t add My Brother, My Sisters as I haven’t had the likely misfortune of seeing it! Never seen any of the Prince of the Pagodas versions, but I’d certainly sign up for it.

    Did he seem like a regular? You'd think someone at the general rehearsal would know it's not the done thing to lean forward in the Amphi, so I'm wondering if this is another case of Friends tickets not going where they should.

    I can't speak for San Francisco, but it's fairly widely acknowledged that standing ovations are much rarer in London than in New York. As I said: this is not to imply that she didn't deserve it, just to consider the context.

    I don’t want to take anything away from what was clearly a very well received performance, but isn’t that fairly common over there?

    I'm put in mind of an interesting remark from the soprano Janis Kelly in the Telegraph yesterday: she said, "I used to feel that everyone in the organisation knew about opera and loved it. Not any more." It was about the industry in general, but I think that on present evidence you can apply it to ROH. Of course it's more important for people to be good at their jobs than to want to work in opera or ballet, but...might the two not very often go together?

    They run a minibus service from Basingstoke station I believe. I agree it’s extremely pretty, and I like Michael Chance’s policy of having no long speeches!

I went to my bookmarked Summer page, and this is the order in which the events are presented (unfiltered): Sing at the ROH Crafternoons Family Sundays Thurrock Tour Live at Lunch Dance with the Royal Ballet Opera Dots Recitals at Lunch Tea Dance Ballet Dots Insights Bryan Terfel Insights Dance and Disability Insights Ballet Black in rehearsal Insights Matthew Ball Insights RB in rehearsal Insights Fonteyn and Me FINALLY: Firebird/Month/Symphony in C and so on That’s 16 views to scroll through before we get to a production. I expect this is strictly chronological, with cross-season recurring “events” having their earliest dates driving the order, but who on earth decided this is appropriate?

    Thanks - I’ve been through those but wanted to understand how uncomfortable it is relative to renowned uncomfortable seats which I know I can tolerate fairly happily. It’s scale I’m after I suppose!

    As I’ve never been there - can anyone advise how the Garnier amphitheatre compares to the upper slips at Covent Garden or the Balcony at the Coliseum? I know the subject has been touched on in other threads but as it has arisen here...

    I hate them! They show a lack of courtesy to the audience, as well as betraying a lack of understanding (or worse, caring) that many have trains to catch.

    This is no doubt true, but I think it's important to note that Kavanagh hints quite strongly at more personal reasons for Ashton beginning to favour Grant over Shaw.

    Well since you mention it.. I’m not sure that some of the discussion about potential suitability has been that useful either. Sure, we know that there’s a question mark over whether Corrales will be able to dance Romeo, but until we have some intelligence from either him or the RB I can’t see much value in discussing it. And I think it *is* potentially intrusive talking about known injuries. I know nothing of Corrales’ case in particular, but if I were a promising young dancer facing a long lay-off or worse, I don’t think I’d want the general public talking about it, particularly with no facts to hand.

    Sorry to be grumpy but must we keep going round the subject of who *might* be injured? It does seem rather pointless (and a little intrusive IMO) to keep speculating in the absence of any actual information.

    Looks an improvement on this season! I'm thinking of heading over for Raymonda and/or the Balanchine.

    I fear that there will be slim pickings at best for the Gala evening when general booking opens. I contacted the box office before booking opened for the highest level friends to ask whether there would be a cap on the number of tickets individuals could buy, given the recent experience of people trying to book for Forza. They replied to say that there would be limits other than “the usual ticket limit of 9 tickets per person”. I did try
