  1. But that will always happen when booking opens; the system needs to be able to cope with it (and generally has in the past).
  2. Me neither. But actually, if I did I would be very happy to see photos of distinguished past dancers and not just current dancers. (Though I do think that press reviews should use photos of current dancers.)
  3. Well charities are of course accountable to the Charity Commission, at least to an extent. But I think it's true that the information in an organisation's published accounts can be so general and presented in such a way that it's not possible to see details that one might want to see. The ROH must know how much it raises with the Pointe Shoe Appeal each year, and as part of their income it then offsets their expenditure which includes pointe shoes. Whether they tie up those two figures anywhere I don't know.
  4. Unfortunately I see that the cheapest tickets, including booking fee, are £33. (That's three times the price of a ticket I have just booked at Sadler's Wells, and that was for a full triple bill.) So I will have to give it a miss.
  5. I didn't know John Ross, but his photos are wonderful. RIP
  6. When I got my new phone last year, I eventually realised that you have to click twice for your Like to register.
  7. Not necessarily. People get (or don't get) jobs as journalists for all sorts of reasons not always connected with their knowledge or the real quality of their writing; and a lot of people with expert knowledge don't necessarily have perception or great writing skills. Reputation is gained by what you write, not who you are.
  8. I don't think that knowing a reviewer's background helps me to form an opinion about their writing. In fact I know next to nothing about the background of current professional dance critics. It's what they write, how they write it, and where relevant how that reflects what I have seen myself (whether or not I agree with it) that dictates my opinion of a writer.
  9. Delighted that Tierney Heap is doing Firebird. I would also have loved Morera to do Month, with Muntagirov. She would seem to me to be perfect casting for Natalia so I don't really understand it. All I can hope is that it comes back next season and she does it then.
  10. I agree, except that even with contemporary works I prefer to read reviews written by someone who has some sort of historical perspective rather than someone who can only see with contemporary eyes.
  11. I still can't see anything other than what was already there (whether or not I'm signed in). Where are you seeing the new casting info Saodan?
  12. I think it's a review with a contemporary bias, if you like, and that's tricky especially when reviewing works made in the past. But I do agree that it's generally worth reading all reviews whether or not you agree with them, even if only to help clarify why you don't agree with them.
  13. And it's better to give no details at all than details which are confusing or incorrect.
  14. I suspect so, Richard. The ROH presumably now prices entirely according to what they think the 'market' will bear for any given bill. (Having said that, if McGregor is so brilliant and so popular why are bills including his work generally priced so low??).
  15. Ah - OK. I was assuming that names 3 and 4 were for Month, but maybe they're still Firebird (except the pairings the wrong way round on the 4th). On reflection that must be the case because the hypothetical Month casting wouldn't look wholly plausible.
  16. Yes - the casting for the 4th makes no sense. Presumably it should read Naghdi, Watson, Arestis, Avis and ??
  17. I think that's true, partly because of the works themselves (I'm not a fan of all of them, but some are terrific) but also because they are now so ingrained in BRB that it would be a huge discontinuity to discard them. He's as much part of the company's heritage now as Ashton and MacMillan and that should be respected.
  18. Well if there's something balletic that's regarded as newsworthy, I wouldn't want radio to ignore it even if it's easier to cover it on television. (i.e. it should be on both, not one or the other.) It's perfectly possible to have interviews etc on radio that cover a story in a way that informs and/or piques interest. In fact my complaint would rather be that TV news programmes hardly ever cover ballet (though I have to admit I don't watch all that much in the way of TV news nowadays, so maybe I'm missing things).
  19. I see that the recent tweets are no longer on his account. I suppose that's something (though I'm not sure what).
  20. Not sure how to put the translation up, but I found that I had to change the option top left to translate from German to English, and then click the 'translate' button top right and it came out in (poor) English.
