I am totally confused about DADAs. I understand how they are allocated, however, how does one scale apply to a range of schools who all charge such different annual fees? For example NBS Manchester is £12000 per annum plus accommodation, Elmhurst charge around £8,000 per term including boarding and meals ( for Upper School). Will the DADA contribute to tuition only once you are over a certain income? Help!!

Sorry if this has been covered many times before but does anyone have an idea how many DADAs are available for Upper School students at Elmhurst and NBS Manchester? At Elmhurst will their own students have a priority?

The Planet Dance branch in the Northern Ballet building in Leeds is open til 8 pm most weekday evenings- except for next week when Belinda is on holiday. It is quiet after about 6 pm and she is really helpful. Probably best to book an appointment and see what she has in stock before you go. She will order shoes in from the Batley store for you. Cafe is open til 6.50pm if you need a coffee!

Does anyone know how many students there were in the year group in total?

Hi Loopy. My dd finds that a fully lined or half lined leotard is much more supportive than the ones with a flimsy little bra shelf. I don't know how your dd's new leotards are lined? A friend of mine had a seamstress unpick a class leotard and line the front with a firmer flesh coloured stretchy fabric. I myself have lined a class leotard with the front of an old one. Worked wonders. I'd even do the same with 2 new leotards in the future. Well worth it - ballet undergarments seem to be for modesty rather than support and the supportive ones seem to only go up to a C cup. Most importantly keeps dd happy so I don't have to listen to her complaining!!

What about schools wanting passport sized head shots? Smile or no smile? Bun or no bun? My dd went to the photobox last night with the messiest hair. Took her ages to do. Looks like a bird's nest.

I know of 9 non vocational students starting 6th form vocational school this summer. All attended an associate class once a week alongside very good local dance schools. There is a huge amount of competition from all over the world but you have to let them try. If they are determined they will get over a few knock backs. My dd has had a few rejections along the way. How she coped with them will provide a couple of good paragraphs on her personal statement I think!!

Yes thank you Tutugirl. All of the kids were amazing in the show. All down to fantastic teaching, great choreography and your talent for bringing out the best in all of them right from the tiny ones up to vocational seniors. Well done.

I keep telling my dd this. There are hardly any dancing jobs available compared to the number of dancers hoping to earn a living from a full time dancing career, especially for girls. The odds are that the amounts she can earn in the future as a dancer will probably never pay back the cost of her dance training. Will she be put off? Of course not!!! I'm actually quite proud of her for being so determined and for working so hard at something. So let's just hope she might be one of the very lucky ones who end up in a dance related career somewhere.

Hi chloe123 I agree with Jane. Contact your local theatres and ask them whether they hold open auditions for shows and pantos or whether they use a local dance school. If it is a local dance school the teachers there will probably know about other performance opportunities as well. It might be a nice school for your dc to become part of. Chauffeuring kids to rehearsals and performances of pantos can take over your whole life at Christmas and New Year, especially if there is a long run. And don't expect your child to be paid. However it is the most amazing thing to be part of. Both for your dc and yourself if you get involved and do some chaperoning. My dc has the most wonderful memories from doing panto and we both wish she was short enough to do another. Good luck with your search.

I will enquire. And if you get a chance to see any of the other shows yourself I can recommend shows 1 and 3 where the final year CAT students will be performing a piece choreographed by Kenneth Tindall. It is amazing. Enjoy your show.

What time is your performance Terpsichore ? I know there are 4 shows on Saturday.

The orthopaedic tape will hold the knee in the position it is meant to be in until muscle can be built up to do the job of the tape. Make sure you put the tape on exactly how the Physio shows you. if the kneecap is sitting to the left for example the Physio will tape it to pull it to the right and so on..... The Physio should tell you why the tape is being used

If you achieve a Distinction in the RAD Advanced Foundation exam you will earn 70 UCAS points which falls midway between a Grade C and D at A2 level. From September 2017 a distinction at Advanced Foundation will be worth 24 points, which will equate to a Grade D at A2 level.

I think you'll find the same no photography / no recording of children policy in most schools up and down the country, whether it be a dance school performance or a junior school nativity. It is a shame but most schools will allow group photos to be taken at the end of the performance. On the plus side it prevents certain parents from waving iPads in the air spoiling the view of everyone else. Watch out for the release of the DVD !!

I would say as many hours as you can fit in. If your dd is hoping to get into vocational school in year 9 she will have to be as least as good as the dc already there and they will have been doing 15+ hours of ballet weekly from year 7. Many of them will have been dancing 5 days a week from an even younger age which is probably why they got in at year 7. There are very few year 9 vocational places available so the more hours your dd can put in now the better.
