  1. Well done to your son Harwel for speaking up about it. It was very brave of him.
  2. Yes. I meant I would pay over and above the licence fee. A bit like Sky customers paying extra for sports etc. I would pay extra for Bake Off. And Strictly of course........
  3. I will be boycotting Bake Off when it moves to Channel 4. I think the BBC should have asked its 10 million viewers to chip in to keep it. I would have paid my share just to be able to watch it without endless adverts!
  4. No more Whittakers on the high street Huddsballetmum. They still make the chocolates but the new Clare Whittakers has nothing to do with the original shop.
  5. My daughter used to have a lot of nose bleeds. She had her nose cauterised twice (with silver nitrate) and only has them occasionally now. Nothing to do with dancing in her case but I believe, amongst other things, exercise can make them worse.
  6. Hi. In your example the £1275 is the amount the student would pay towards tuition only for the whole academic year and you would have to pay for your own accommodation. For families on lower levels of income they are awarded the full tuition fee and money towards accommodation as well , which is the amount showing in the maintenance rates column.
  7. 1 black/ blue competition dress aged 12-14 1 sky blue/pink competition dress aged 10-12 1 orange practice dress aged 8-10 1 burgundy/pink competition dress aged 8-10 Please p.m. me if you'd like to see photos.
  8. If anyone is within driving distance of Northumberland this weekend check out tallshipsblyth2016.com They are sailing in for the weekend before racing off to Gothenburg on Monday morning. Loads to do and very exciting climbing on board.
  9. Oops sorry I obviously can't quote. BlueLou Tutugirl's summer school usually is the week after Northern Ballet CAT SS. I guess that would have clashed with August Bank Holiday this year. My DD has done both last year and the year before. I would definitely recommend you keeping a look out for next year as it's a great opportunity to get some performance experience. Like others have said you will be very impressed by the end of week show. Great teachers and great choreography.
  10. Look on the bright side. You could have moronic clients and 2 tiers of moronic managers to deal with????
  11. My dd is also on a CAT scheme. The teacher tells the students when they are having a growth spurt and everyone has their training adjusted accordingly. Especially when growth spurts are accompanied by knee and hip pains. Injury prevention is key.
  12. Most of ours are from Planet Dance. Last year they ordered lots from the Wear Moi catalogue for us to try to find 'The' audition leotard and we didn't have to buy any we weren't happy with. They couldn't have been more helpful.
  13. My dd has some lovely Wear Moi leotards but every size 'Small' has a different fit. Even if you buy the same leotard in 2 different colours they do not have the same fit. It's a case of try each one and see unfortunately.
  14. This year we did all of the early auditions to ensure that first/final auditions didn't take up too much school time in March when GCSEs are getting close. At some schools finals take place over 2 days and most auditions and finals are during the school week. If you also have to plan in travel then it can mean quite a few missed school days, depending on how many auditions you do of course.
  15. As I understand it the Level 6 Trinity Diploma in Dance does not have enough academic content to warrant student finance. I can't remember where I heard that so please correct me if I'm wrong. I wish it did have funding!!! You can then do the 'academic bit' afterwards to top it up to degree level. I teach on academic Level 3 and Level 4 courses and student loans are available for both of these qualifications so I guess the academic content might have something to do with the availability of funding rather than the 'level' .
  16. How many political comments does it need on a doing dance thread to get it locked by a moderator? I'm guessing just one if it is made by a lower class/ uneducated/north of Watford Gap/ uncultured Brexit voter.
  17. An old or recent photo of you all in a nice little frame, maybe from a show. Yorkshire Soap Company do a slice of soap with ballerinas running through it and lovely gift boxes. They never seem to have it on their website but it is always in their shops.
  18. My dd held her own leg up with one arm until everything else was in position, i.e. other arm, smile etc, and then let go and held the position for a few seconds just long enough to get a good photo. It helps enormously to have another mum with you to take the photos as this reduces any arguments and temper tantrums!! (from dd and me!) Best taken from a sitting down position as mentioned.
  19. Employer pension contributions into their own occupational pension schemes are a tax free benefit to the employee. However any pension contributions paid by your employer into your own personal pension plan would be a taxable benefit.
  20. Sorry for continuing 'off topic' but that's very interesting 2dancersmum. My dd will be starting a Level 6 Diploma in September and will be 'self-catering' so I hope the assignment is a compulsory part of the syllabus. She has just bought herself a blender and is making the most enormous, expensive smoothies every night. Some lessons on nutrition and budgeting are clearly needed!!
  21. Fantastic news. Well done to both of you for putting yourself through the audition rounds for a second time.
  22. No offence taken Petraviolet. It made me laugh. Following your own explanation of the calculation your DDs legs must be longer than her whole body to come out with a ratio of 207% ????
