  1. Several reviews, in fact Thank you, stucha - I knew I'd seen some more reviews somewhere. I'd love it if ABT brought this to the UK.
  2. It would hardly be the first time he's combined two different performances in one review: my guess is that space is limited and he doesn't get much other opportunity. Anyway, I was surprised to even see the critics reviewing the gala - I didn't think they usually did.
  3. I've just been reading Alastair Macaulay's review of ABT's "new" Sleeping Beauty as revised/restored by Ratmansky: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/11/arts/dance/review-ratmanskys-the-sleeping-beauty-has-premiere-in-california.html?ref=dance&_r=1 He sounds pretty taken with it. Would love to read feedback from anyone who's been to see it.
  4. 15th - 26th September 2015 at their usual haunt, the Peacock Theatre. Programme 1 (first week): Swan Lake Act II Pas de deux Esmeralda Paquita so not much new there Programme 2 (2nd week) Les Sylphides Patterns in Space Go for Barocco Don Quixote (UK premiere)
  5. Weren't there several people on the front of the programme? I didn't get one.
  6. I could probably manage a weekday matinee in Birmingham, too (hint, hint, Mr. Bintley)
  7. That's how I feel about it, too. "I did wonder why Kondaurova didn't dance this piece with Xander, as he has danced the Golden Slave a number of times before, including in London (although those performances were not with the Mariinsky, he has danced it with them), and seems quite well suited to it in terms of both his dancing and physique (this and Apollo are the roles in which I think he has done particularly well with the Mariinsky)." Good point. I thought he was surprisingly well suited to it, and I'd never thought I'd say that of any British dancer!

    Tinnitus

Janet, you're lucky to be able to *get* a telephone consultation with the GP. My surgery has abandoned the practice. I really can't see the logic behind it: if it's something minor like getting a prescription off them it shouldn't be a big deal. I probably ought to go and get a blood test done: previously they've just spoken to me and then left a form at reception for me to pick up at my leisure - easier for everyone. I wonder what they'll do now?
  9. They do, don't worry. We seem to be on their database twice, so every now and then we get a letter telling us that we're naughty and they're coming to get us. I renewed the licence a month or so ago, so I expect another letter in the not-too-distant future. How on earth you can get two database entries for the same address I don't know. If they provided a Freephone number I might bother ringing them back and telling them, but they don't, so I won't.
  10. I was just trawling around on the Internet and found this page: http://canarywharf.com/arts-events/events/dancing-city-2015/?instance_id= Details sketchy at present, but could be interesting.
  11. Yes, well I'm afraid bad behaviour does tend to beget ... shall we say a lack of politeness?
  12. Well, they did, a couple of years back. Are they bringing Swan Lake to London next year? I certainly hope so. I was thinking that I ought to find something of theirs I could go to twice as compensation for missing the Carmina Burana bill. And if anyone spots Brandon Lawrence making a debut as Siegfried, PLEASE let me know!
  13. Wow, yes, there were a couple (Martinez and Letestu, wasn't it?) who guested with ENB in Deane's Nutcracker - but *that* was two Nutcrackers ago now. When did POB bring Le Parc over? Just as well I didn't go yesterday after all, I think. I ended up fighting a migraine all evening, so probably wouldn't have appreciated it much
  14. I think it may also be worth mentioning that a number of places won't actually countenance their adult students doing pointework, but cite health & safety concerns - they seem to be more worried about a pointe shoe-related accident, or possibly a dancer injuring themselves by doing pointework, than anything else, and it's just easier to apply a blanket ban.
  15. Ah, yes, I was thinking of the 35-minute trains - or perhaps that's just from East Croydon, not Victoria. Actually, that would make more sense.
  16. Which one was Leo Dixon? Not really quite what I'd expected from the advertised "onstage masterclass", though.
  17. Since you've brought up the subject of Lensky, it struck me retrospectively that, while I'd got the impression of a very smitten young man - love's young dream and all that - I don't think I ever really got the feeling of him being a Romantic Poet from any of the dancers. To my mind, that's an important bit of characterisation, because it underlies all his behaviour in Act II, whether it reflect the way he actually feels or whether it be the way he feels he *ought* to act. And again, retrospectively, I was very disappointed to hear that I had indeed missed Nicol Edmonds dancing Lensky on the last, Friday, matinee. Since I hadn't seen him since the very beginning of the run, it might have swung my decision to go to that performance if anyone had updated the website casting
  18. That reminds me: I was at a concert the other day, and a bloke in front of me kept jerking his head (and probably shoulders too) first to one side, then to the other (or forwards if he wanted to ring the changes occasionally). It wasn't some medical tic or anything he had, just his way of changing his position, I suppose. I'm used to people changing their seating position from time to time, but this was really violent - and really frequent - and every time he did it I'd have to move too if he'd blocked my view - and try not to disturb the people behind *me* too much. It was already a very long piece of music, but it felt a lot longer because I could never settle.
  19. Hmm, you ought to be able to get back to Victoria by 10.50-55 if you're lucky (going via Embankment is only 5 minutes - or should be), but that's still cutting it fine for Brighton, isn't it?
  20. Oh, I was thinking it was new. Oh well, it's still the Grigorovich version, isn't it? Thanks.
  21. I hope so. That and Dances at a Gathering would do very nicely
