  1. More tomorrow but, for now, I wanted to share the glad tidings that there were proper curtain calls tonight!
  2. Just a warning that, judging by stuff that comes up automatically on Facebook, agencies seem to have latched onto this show and could well be offering tickets at inflated prices.
  3. Since the change a few months back, the BCF site has been much slower to load on all my devices. That is a real frustration. I think that the new "thanks"; "haha" and "like" could be confusing. There has been a previous debate about having anything different from a straightforward "like" and I would have preferred that we had kept it simple. Hearts imply love, after all!
  4. Exactly so, FLOSS. There is a huge feeling of goodwill towards ENB, a real sense of wanting the Company to flourish, and great affection for its tireless dancers.
  5. BRB is mounting one such performance of Sleeping Beauty and I think this is a wonderful initiative.
  6. Is it possible, of course, that Tamara Rojo has an element of 'performance pay/bonus' built into her terms and conditions (and I don't mean for her dancing!). By that token (audience numbers; awards received by ENB; etc.), it would be possible to build on a basic salary quite significantly.
  7. It was a few years back but, presumably, one can also see this in the accounts.
  8. I was intending to hold back from this thread as I am such an avid supporter of ENB However, I feel that some comments have been rather unfair to the dancers who are leaving and this makes me want to mention two things If I am remembering correctly, 9 of the leavers have been Emerging Dancer Finalists – 4 of them twice. In addition, Acosta won both the Emerging Dancer and the People’s Choice Awards, Zhang won Emerging Dancer, Lukovkin won the People’s Choice Award, as did Summerscales (twice)! These successes speak volumes! These wonderful artists and the others who have decided to go have contributed enormously to the achievements of the Company and I send them a great big “THANK YOU” and best wishes for the future. Of course, everyone seeks to progress in their careers but, even though so many of ENB’s dancers are at the Artist level (something like 64% this year, I believe), they rejoice when their peers do well and when they see talent, hard work and artistry rewarded with promotion.
  9. Am I correct in recalling that Ivanchenko was also with the Bolshoi for a period of time?
  10. That is SUCH a pity. Xander should have been able to take the acclaim of the audience.
  11. Did the promotion 'happen' in front of the audience? I do hope so
  12. Maybe a number of the tickets have been set aside for organisations in Hull. In which case, fair enough - the show should be for them. I just hope that agencies haven't hoovered them up.
  13. I agree that Bennet's performances as Leontes were extraordinary, especially at that moment when he was overtaken with the belief that the baby was Polixines'. For me, he transformed The Winter's Tale into something altogether more interesting. But, of course, we also have him now in The Judas Tree in the autumn.
  14. Yes - and the fact that one of these wonderful pairings will probably dance the General and the other may be cast for the Schools' Matinee doesn't really help the situation. However, pressure on ticket sales will hopefully convey a powerful message.
  15. My 'headlines' are the Giselle/Albrechts for Naghdi/Ball and Hayward/Sambe (plus, of course, the irresistible pairing of Nunez/Muntagirov ). Not sure why it is necessary to bring in Hallberg as a guest, although I do like his dancing.
  16. Kudos to Tom Atard-Manche for arranging the Gala as an opener for his new venture. He certainly gave many young dancers the opportunity to perform and it was especially lovely to see Joseph Aumeer on stage again. I also thought that Scott MacKenzie (ex RBS and now with Vienna) did amazingly well with the fiendishly difficult Prince's solo from Act 1 of Nureyev's Sleeping Beauty. I do think that, however, that the purpose of Ballet United remains a little fuzzy. It laudably seeks to involve wider audiences in ballet/dance but will its activities be restricted to performances? Maybe, also, care should be taken not to 'over claim'. What we saw last night were not some of the 'greatest artists in the world' and it did not matter that they were not because they had the opportunity to shine and be appreciated by an unusually 'young' audience for dance.
  17. Tickets go on sale at 10.00am on Friday 21st July: https://www.hull2017.co.uk/whatson/events/royal-ballet-opening-new/
  18. Huge congratulations to both Garbine Muguruza and Roger Federer, not simply because they are the Champions but because their tennis throughout the Wimbledon fortnight has been such a joy to watch. Feeling bewildered about what happened to Cilic but so sorry for him, especially if the occasion and his frustration at being unable to give of his best overwhelmed him.
  19. Love Zen, of course. But she gave her farewell as Marguerite and there are other ballerinas who would love a shot at the role. I'm also surprised to see Salenko listed, especially as there are now several home grown Principals of suitable height for both McRae and Campbell.
  20. I would like to think that we can now 'relax' about the newspaper coverage and simply rejoice in, and enjoy, the news of Yasmine's promotion
