  1. Interesting to see from another thread that Matthew Golding is guesting in Munich this season. Also, the Staatsballett website has changed its nomenclature from First Soloists, Soloists and Demi-Soloists to Principals, First Soloists and Soloists: https://www.staatsoper.de/en/staatsballett/ensemble.html
  2. Steven McRae is dancing Jack/Knave of Hearts (the leading man - for the first time) and The Mad Hatter (the tap-dancing role he created).
  3. It'll need to be the cinema for Zen in my case - except that it's the cast which has been relayed before (and shown on TV?). Doubly pleased to have moved quickly to snap up tickets when Anna Rose O'Sullivan was announced for Alice as I have also caught Joseph Sissens. Yaaaaay! I note, with pleasure, the comment in the Independent's review of the Hull Gala that critic Zoe Anderson also wants to see Yasmine Naghdi dance the full role of Sylvia
  4. Zenaida Yanowsky is to return to dance the Queen of Hearts in Alice. See the ROH website: http://www.roh.org.uk/news/zenaida-yanowsky-to-return-to-the-royal-ballet-in-alices-adventures-in-wonderland . Her dates are: 27th Sept., 9th Oct., and 23rd Oct. and include the cinema relay. All performances are with Cuthbertson/Bonelli and other members of the original cast The other dancers who will undertake the role are listed there as: Morera, Calvert, Heap, and Mendizabel.
  5. A collection of individual's photos has now been put on the ROH website: http://www.roh.org.uk/news/a-dancers-eye-view-the-best-instagram-photos-from-behind-the-scenes-at-the-royal-ballets-gala-performance-in-hull
  6. The Times' Debra Craine was there and has written at some length ( 4 ****) under a photo of Xander Parish and Yasmine Naghdi in the Sylvia pas de deux.
  7. Some photos from Dance Europe are here: http://www.danceeurope.net/gallery/opening-the-new-the-royal-ballet
  8. Whilst I couldn't agree with you more about Yasmine and Sylvia, Nina G, I'm not sure that I warm to the idea of 'senior principals'. Yes, Cuthbertson, Lamb, Morera, Nunez and Osipova are older, have been Principals for longer, and are more experienced but the nice thing about the RB is that there is no distinction within the top rank.
  9. Given that there was a live relay to an outdoor venue in Hull, I don't understand why the ROH didn't also offer the opportunity for watching the gala online. There is some interesting footage about individual dancers from Hull on the ROH's Facebook page and several Facebook posts of extracts from the Gala (e.g. Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude; Swan Lake pas de deux). Today's Sunday Times also has a photo of Yasmine Naghdi and Xander Parish in the Sylvia pas de deux.
  10. Lovely photo in the main section of today's Sunday Times (17th September 2017) of Yasmine Naghdi and Xander Parish in the Sylvia pas de deux.
  11. Hayward/Sambe are shown online as dancing the Schools Matinee.
  12. Feeling very sorry that Sarah Lamb's injury is not yet resolved and that Marcelino Sambe is unable to dance. But delighted that Anna Rose O'Sullivan is now cast as Alice as she seems made for the role. On another thread there is talk of how difficult it is to avoid 'multi-buys' for Giselle. I seem to have needed to book for more Alices than is financially prudent!!!!
  13. Not Sleeping Beauty, but pleased to see that BRB has turned the focus on two of its leading dancers ahead of Aladdin at The Lowry: http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/15534976.Ballet_stars_share_their_secrets_as_Aladdin_comes_to_the_Lowry/
  14. I don't think that the Wimbledon Theatre was the main company, was it? However, ENB did tour to Oman in the Spring of 2016. Next year, they will dance Khan's Giselle in New Zealand 1st - 4th March 2018 (Auckland Festival) and in Dublin 2nd - 6th May 2018. I rather wish that the online announcements and printed leaflets would separate out the ENB Company performances from those of the 50 or so My First..... series (plus associated events) which are normally danced by second year ENBS students.
  15. Of course, he's now dancing Jack, as befits his principal status.
  16. This applies no less today and I am not altogether convinced that the major UK ballet companies all have the balance 'right' - nor, indeed, that dancer development is a sufficiently prominent consideration in programming. But I am taking us away from the headline topic.........
  17. It's interesting that the summer season at the Coliseum completely coincides with the RB's new Swan Lake at the ROH.
  18. The count of people watching via YouTube was showing on the screen throughout the relay and the highest number reached there was around 800. Maybe there were more via Facebook, but this seemed far fewer than I would have expected.
  19. I watched the live relay and thought that it was one of the better Insights to have been offered recently. Alexander Campbell (thought I'd put his name in full for your benefit, Jan ) does a really good job of introducing these events and having two dance contributions was a bonus, especially with such winning dancers as Beatriz Stix-Brunell, James Hay, Joseph Sissens and Calvin Richardson. It was interesting to follow viewers' comments online, particularly the differences of view as to which of the 2 tap-dancing Mad Hatters people preferred. I can't wait to see both of them as their characters came across so differently.
  20. Ken Saruhashi danced the role last year but, as you say, no confirmation of Hilarion or Myrtha emerging as yet.
  21. Jeannette Kakareka (ex ENB) is also now listed within the Munich corps.
  22. No sign of Jinhao Zhang and Jeanette Kakareka (both ex ENB) in the list as yet.
