  1. Apparently, audience members waiting at the ROH Stage Door after a show are not being allowed inside at the moment.
  2. I think that there is an 'awareness' of one another's rep. For example, ENB toured R & J in the autumn of 2015 but did not show it at the Coliseum after Nutcracker. This may have been because the RB had had a long run of the ballet in London 2/3 months prior. Clearly, this year, there has been direct collaboration among a number of companies in relation to the MacMillan celebration. And, of course Kevin O'Hare is on the Board of Northern Ballet. However, there are now three companies (RB, ENB and BRB) mounting Nutcracker in London concurrently. It will be interesting to see whether all play to full houses.
  3. I didn't care about the little slips. I was just enraptured by the emotional charge of Zen in particular.
  4. I do understand that - I think the issue has been discussed elsewhere? But, when Armand, his father and the duke wear their own hair, the wigs look almost farcical by comparison.
  5. Have just seen the rehearsal and hope that it's OK to say here that the 8 Men are no longer wearing those dreadful wigs in Marguerite and Armand.
  6. There is a clip online showing Luca Acri being rehearsed for Puck. Here is the link to the ROH's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/royaloperahouse/?hc_ref=NEWSFEED&fref=nf However, I am conscious that it may not work for everyone, so here is another link - this time to the ROH page about the cinema relay but giving access to the free digital programme: http://www.roh.org.uk/news/the-royal-ballets-latest-mixed-programme-to-be-relayed-live-to-bp-big-screens-in-the-uk-and-cinemas-worldwide-on-7-june-2017
  7. A good last outing for the quad bill tonight with 3 special reasons to rejoice: - Yasmine Nagdhi amazing in Tarantella alongside a buoyant Valentino Zuchetti - the farewell performance of Strapless (hopefully) - Laura Morera stunning in Symphonic Dances
  8. Did anyone on here experience the debacle at the ROH yesterday afternoon (Mon 29th May)?
  9. The House is arranging a flower throw. Great news, eh? It will be lovely to be there
  10. I've e-mailed Nicki Spencer but she is not back at work until today. Front of House usually step in to provide the flowers or to augment those from audience members.
  11. I actually think that having another guest (who has danced the role before) rather than a member of the home team is a wise move from a number of perspectives.
  12. Just received from Sadlers Wells: Dear Patron, Thank you for booking tickets for English National Ballet: Emerging Dancer at Sadler's Wells this evening. We would like to advise you that in light of recent events, security at the theatre has been reviewed and enhanced. One of the measures we have introduced is random bag searches in our foyers. You may, therefore, find it helpful to allow extra time before the performance is due to begin. We hope you enjoy the show and we look forward to welcoming you. Howard Clark Head of Visitor Services
  13. Mona Inglesby wasn't marginalised as far as I was concerned. She and her company were my ballet-going childhood.
  14. Interesting for many of us in the UK to note that Daniele Silingardi is joining Stuttgart from ENB. In relation to Constantine Allen, one might suspect that whichever company he is joining is not yet ready to announce him.
  15. Nunez and Muntagirov are performing the Nureyev version of Swan Lake too on 4th June
  16. If it helps, I have spoken with a number of young people who have been to Prague Masterclasses and they have all had a wonderful experience.
  17. There are the Prague Masterclasses headed up by Daria Klimentova which have been running for many years and have many principals/former principals and company directors as teachers: http://www.balletmasterclass.com From what one can gather from young people who have attended and from teachers and photographers. this initiative has a really fine reputation. A new entry this year is: http://www.pragueballetintensive.com This has a similar faculty of teachers but appears to cater for young professionals as well as students. Both websites contain a lot of information about what is offered. Are you thinking of attending one of them stardancer?
  18. Here is the link to the English version of the Japanese announcement: http://www.nbs.or.jp/english/news/20170516-01.html
  19. Brandon wasn't among the new dancers announced by the RB for 2017/18 so that might give some reassurance to his fans. But, surely, in any case, there is already more than enough talent within the RB. One wonders how those up and coming dancers would feel if (more) people from BRB transferred or were cast on the basis of an exchange. Jamie Bond did, of course, start his career with the RB and moved to Birmingham reportedly to get more chance of leading roles.
  20. Yes - I thought that I would take a turn at being a bit provocative!!!!
  21. Well I think we know who is gong to dance Armand now? Edited to add that there are so many changes to Vertiginous as well, all of which, together with that in Strapless, must have a knock on effect on the remaining dancers. Not easy for anyone.
  22. Well, it’s over – and far too quickly with possibly too many performances packed into little more than a fortnight. Mayerling is a ballet which, for me, needs time to soak in after each show as well as being experienced ‘in the moment’ and, this time, I felt that one had to ‘move on’ to the next interpretations too speedily for absolute comfort. There have been some excellent ‘reviews’ on here, for which “thank you” everyone. What I am taking away in particular from this awesome run is: · the jaw-dropping Rudolfs from Watson and Bonelli, the stupendous Mary Vetsera of Morera and the particularly affecting Bratfisch of Campbell · that Mayerling doesn’t quite work unless the leading man’s dancing, partnering and characterisation are equally ‘top notch’ (Soares' dancing disappointed me, I’m afraid, as it did in Diamonds) · it is important to be able to identify with both Rudolf and Mary even if they are fundamentally unsympathetic characters and, for me, some of the acting felt a bit layered onto the surface · how suited to this ballet the RB roster of dancers currently is – not just the ‘usual suspects’ like Lamb (Larisch) and Yanowsky (Empress) but all the Stephanies I saw (did Maguire dance on the last night, I wonder?), all the Mitzi Caspars, Marriott and Avis (Emperor) and all the Hungarian Officers and, above all, · what a masterpiece Mayerling is. Here’s hoping that this wonderful ballet will return to the rep. very soon with at least 2/3 new Rudolfs.
  23. I think that all Directors 'back' the people they have promoted, not least because they want to secure the succession at the top. Kevin O'Hare is also giving Takada many opportunities. Both ballerinas seemed to have blossomed even more since they became Principals. Great for us!
  24. He joined in 2007 when he was 17 so he was in the RB for 3 years before he became a Principal.
