  1. As soon as I know anything I'll post lol
  2. Well he's had the first two auditions and so far he's had an unconditional offer from audition one and a personal email from the principal of the other one asking him to phone them in the morning. I don't think my nerves can take it, I need it to be tomorrow morning NOW!!!!!!
  3. I usually send the things he classes as 'luxuries' like herbs, spices, stock cubes that he won't buy for himself. I usually fill a 'surprise' bag/box with things he can take back. This time it included three flavours of mayonnaise!! I like to randomly send gift cards too, nothing much just things like a £5 Costa card or similar so that he can treat himself.
  4. When talking about timing of auditions DS was told not to worry too much as even if he left them until the last minute he would be successful as there were very few boys of his calibre around. He has been asked to email 2 places when he sends his forms off as both offered him a free audition following open days/workshops. Such exciting scary times!!
  5. I really don't mind too much about the colour but would much prefer the bar to the round one.
  6. I am so fed up, annoyed and extremely disappointed! Having booked tickets almost as soon as they were available, sorted out trains and hotel etc the main stage slot I was going to see was moved yesterday It was Sunday morning and now it's Friday (that's tomorrow!!). When did we find out - after the rehearsal yesterday. So having been at college all day then having a 3 hour rehearsal they were told as they finished - no reason given. I had also bought him masterclass tickets around his performances and he couldn't have his first choice as it clashed with his main stage performance. Needless to say it was sold out ages ago and the one for tomorrow now clashes with the new time. I understand that the whole idea of Move It is to showcase the colleges and not performances for family and others but to change it so dramatically less than 2 days before is just not on! Rant over I'm going to bed to cry into my pillow
  7. Does she have Stephen taking class? I know how much he enjoys it and - I know I'm biased - he's really good with the younger ones
  8. At an after school club he was 'spotted' age 5 by an ex-dancer and we were advised to take him to ballet. He had just turned 6 when I took him and from then on everything came second to ballet. 2 associate schemes, NYB, EYB, RAD boys only days and 11 years later he's living his dream, away dancing full time1
  9. thanks, he's going to be on the main stage and the showcase stage and I wasn't sure if you needed tickets or anything to see the main stage as I know we have get tickets for the showcase. I'm very excited and looking forward to seeing him there
  10. Has anyone had a DC at Move It before? Interested to know what it's like and how easy was it to see them when they were performing? Thanks
  11. Yes KS Dance follows the ISTD Cecchetti syllabus "The KS Dance Junior Programme offers a wide variety of dance classes for all ages, including Classical Ballet, ISTD Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop and ISTD Tap. If you require more information about the classes or on registering, please contact us. KS Dance does recommend that children consider ballet above other subjects as a classical foundation gives a strong base for all dance subjects. The Junior Programme also have their own productions for young students to have the opportunity to perform on stage in a theatre. It is valuable experience for children and KS Dance believes that it is an important aspect of their development. It enables our younger students to grasp a sense of where their training is leading them. KS Dance also participates in dance competitions for juniors: Cecchetti Classical Ballet Awards, Molly Lake Awards, Star Tap Awards and Janet Cram Awards in Modern."
  12. Not sure if my DS will audition again, (he was Dr Coppellius). I enjoyed the show and will be sad if he decides not to but he's got a lot on next year.
  13. DS's CAT regularly had had a percussionist and now his school does. He loves it and it's great to watch him do contemporary to bongo's etc.
  14. As everyone has said, the schools all want different things. DS was not selected for finals at Elmhurst but did make finals elsewhere and was offered places at two other schools. Who knows what they are looking for, I just said that everything happens for a reason and maybe the right thing is waiting to happen. He's now unbelievably happy where he is and, in his words, is living the dream! His ballet teacher said to him that selecting dancers at auditions was very hard, It's like when you open a box of biscuits, you want them all, they're all yummy and look delicious, but you can only choose one or two. It doesn't make the others less yummy!
  15. We pay £300 a month for a minute shared flat. It has two bedrooms both with bunk beds, no TV and no Wi-Fi. The kitchen/living area is tiny, enough room for one at a time in the kitchen and the living area only has 3 chairs and nowhere to put a table. It does however have a small ensuite (which the boys have) and a bathroom that the girls use. DS doesn't mind about the tv as he says by the time he gets back and has eaten and stretched he crawls climbs exhausted into the top bunk . He's much more upset about the tiny kitchen as he does the majority of the cooking! That said he's absolutely loving it and feels at last like he's living the dream!!!
  16. I'm probably a little mad but I miss sewing elastics on shoes now that DS has gone away and of course I never had to do his hair lol! I am always eager to help with hair when it's exam time and almost feel deprived that I will never have to sew point shoes I'm glad however not to have the expense!!!
  17. Have you looked at Stageworks?
  18. our dance school is also ISTD (Cecchetti) and we have standards and grades. Standards (or class examinations) are generally for those who are just enjoying ballet and grades for those who want more and show some ability. In standards the teacher is in the studio for exams and in grades there's only the candidates.
  19. We looked at this school last year and were very impressed. There was a lot of building work going on but the areas that were finished were beautiful. Staff were very approachable and the only reason we decided against it was he wanted a broader range of dance i.e. contemporary and jazz as well as ballet
  20. My sister constantly told me I should stop DS from dancing as I was 'making him different' and he would be bullied. My nephew avoids him like the plague as he's convinced he must be gay. Every time we say he's a dancer we get the Billy Elliott comments even though he had been dancing for at least 5 years before he was old enough to watch the film/see the musical. 'It's easier for boys' Really, how and in what way, it's certainly not been our experience! Far from being gay or effeminate we've found that being a dancer has made him really fit and strong and very comfortable in female company, have spent most of his life surrounded by girls!
  21. Isn't it odd how we all see things differently. DS teacher said she would no longer teach him if he went to Graham. I took him to see what he thought and actually he didn't like the associates and we turned down the place - problem solved I've not heard anything bad about him so don't know what the teacher had against him!!!
  22. You must be really proud of your dad and his dancing lol
  23. I remember a conversation about leotards when I bought the first one... Him "I'm not wearing that it's like a girls swimsuit" Me "you have to wear it if you want to do your exam" Him " no way am I wearing that" Me "you have to at least try it and if you really hate it we can talk to the teacher" Him - after very reluctantly and with bad grace trying the leotard and tights - "Oh wow I look like a real dancer, I look like Billy Elliot!" The next few minutes before class he just stared at himself in the mirror and loved what he saw!
  24. Does anyone know if it the same for photos for full time training
