Just longing to know what Tamara has now on her books for ENB .... She said in another article that she had her eyes on several men from outside the UK ... and was prominent at the Stuttgart Ballet's taster programme ... One can dream, huh ... Could make for some very interesting/exciting balletic times in London.  I'm certain that Vadim will profit from his time as a principal with the Royal Ballet ... and will be another who can speak Russian to the divine Osipova!!!   Guess, though, he won't be so free to guest in so many other places.  Ah, well, he is still young ... There are many wonderful times to follow in his burgeoning career.    (Wonder too if he will still honour his R&J performances at RAH with Daria.  I bet you anything he will.)

And here's the official announcement from RB

VADIM MUNTAGIROV TO JOIN THE ROYAL BALLET AS A PRINCIPAL DANCER

Vadim Muntagirov will join The Royal Ballet as a Principal Dancer on 24 February

Kevin O’Hare, Director of The Royal Ballet said “I was delighted when Vadim approached me about the possibility of joining The Royal Ballet. Since graduating from The Royal Ballet School he has made a huge impact during his career with English National Ballet and I very much look forward to him joining our wonderful roster of male Principals.”

Vadim Muntagirov said “This is a very exciting time for me.  I have had so many fantastic opportunities with English National Ballet over the past four years and have many great memories to take with me. At this point in my career I feel ready to take on new challenges and felt that The Royal Ballet could offer me that opportunity. To dance some of the great roles in The Royal Ballet’s repertory as well as create new work being made by some of the greatest choreographers is a dream come true.”

Vadim’s first performance with The Royal Ballet will be on Tuesday 25 March as Prince Florimund in The Sleeping Beauty partnering Akane Takada who will be making her debut as Princess Aurora.  Vadim will also be appearing in Christopher Wheeldon’s new full length ballet The Winter’s Tale which opens in April.

23 year old Vadim is currently a Lead Principal with English National Ballet. Born in Chelyabinsk, Russia, he began dancing in 1999 attending the Perm Choreographic Ballet Institute. In 2006 he won the silver medal at the Prix de Lausanne and in the same year was invited to join The Royal Ballet Upper School. Upon graduation in 2009, he joined English National Ballet. In 2013 Vadim received the Benois de la danse award.

I'm very dIsappointed that he's not going to be dancing with Daria in R&J. Sorry, but I feel that he's letting her down.

Aileen, that is exactly what was going through my mind.  Although perhaps the issue was forced (I mean maybe he would have liked to but it was decided not).

Anyway I wish him well for his new post.

Very sad to hear that Vadim won't be dancing with Daria one last time in the R&J.  It would have been nice.  Glad I was at that final (and her only) Corsaire to see them - in what surely must be their last London performance.  Now I understand the true importance of that stunning flower shower.  Thought Tamara's message very gracious.  I am sure all will be well, however.  I know both Vadim and ENB will, in their own separate ways, thrive.  We are ALL the richer for that.

Why the hurry? Why couldn't he have honoured his commitments until June or July. Really shoddy behaviour, Vadim!

No!  Not shoddy at all. I think I can guess his reason, all may become clearer later this year.  I applaud what he has done even though it has taken me by surprise.

By the way he could have gone to ABT and made a mint instead he chooses to stay in the UK for the benefit of his devoted UK fans.  Bravo, Vadim  xxx

I'm a massive fan of Vadim, but I'm really disappointed by his behaviour. Why does he have to join the RB so soon, when Matthew Golding is joining (and is honouring his commitments on the Madrid tour, unlike Vadim)?

Read what Janet McNulty says in post #10, she may very well be right.

Maybe he wants to? I know that when i've got new jobs I always hate having to work my notice period and am desperate to get started.

Not sure I am happy about a move to RB as I sense things are not right there, we'll see, good luck to Vadim anyway.  I am really annoyed it is an immiment move as I have literally put the phone down on changing my RAH ticket for R&J to see him and Daria bad timing for me or what!  However maybe Friedemann Vogel will fill the spot and very well he will too.  Good job I have tickets for D&V in Le Corsaire in Manchester. I think this does signal Daria will retire now too?

SPD444, do you have any evidence for this speculation?

Absolutely none at all. In other walks of life it is not uncommon for someone who resigns from a job to be escorted out of the building and put on garden leave ( I used to work in computers so I know that this does happen ) so I just wondered if Ms Rojo was the sort of person to want an immediate break. No offense meant.

Very mixed feelings about this.  I'm delighted he's joining what I consider to be my 'home team'  but sorry for ENB's loss, and - for different reasons in both cases -  sorry also for both Tamara and for Daria.  Whatever, he has probably made the right career choice and I wish him the best of luck.

I don't think anyone would take offense. Happens all the time.

If you don’t have any evidence you should not write this type of comment, it is very rude

It's not rude. It's what I expect to happen when someone hands their notice in, as in my present industry, it is standard practice. People are speculating, they are not accusing.

I should have added that he is also letting Daria (and the company) down in Madrid as well. You should always start as you mean to go on, and being paired with a non-principal, as a replacement for a soloist, is, IMO, a pretty lame start. He should be careful that he doesn't end up as a principal in name only.
